Based on recently estimation, there 6 million Lao ethnic in Laos, 55 million in modern day Thailand, 250 million in China, Burma, Cambodia and other western nations. As long as we continue eating sticky rice, live on the raised houses and listening to kean, we will always be Lao, regardless of where we are. @LILBAZZO69 funny Thais claim the area of Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai as their own even though the ppl there and the culture is derived from Lao.They speak in a Lao accent and dialect and eat sticky rice, just like Isaan, Isaan have a different accent than "kon Meung" though.I think Thais claim Chiang Mai ppl and culture as their own because areas of Chiang Mai is richer than Isaan.That's what it is. We see in the North the Tai race includes, the Tai Yuan [Khon Muang], the Tai Lue , the Tai Yai [the Shan of Burma], the Ahom [of Assam] and the Tai-Lao of Isan and Laos [and others elsewhere in Asia]. @vieng1able , King Anouvong was great for rebelling against Siam but the greatest Lan Xang King would go to King Fa Ngum the son Muang Swa(Luang Prabang).
He didn't really have to go to war just send a letter and they backed off.
Lao children use to sing songs that mention these 3 kings in primary school.

2) King Xay Setthatirath
3)Souligna Vongsa
Chao Anuvong name should be on that song and his statue should be in Laos also.I dont know why it aint.

1) Burma will defeat the smaller states and the smaller states will submit to Burma making them fighting along side with Burma. A good example would be during King Xay Settha time.

Xoootaku You are WRONG! Siamese are related to KHMER/MON family. And Lao are related to TAI family,which is why we understand and have a strong connection to our TAI origin. And you're mixing up the difference between Thai,and Tai which is why you are trying to relate to our Tai family tree. Even today Siamese are mix with Chinese/Thai so much now that, Chinese/Thai still have the Siamese bad Genes in them. Chinese/Thai don't even know nothing about our history or Thailand. Pathetic!
