The comments are not fully truthful. There are many reputable dog breeders in the US. But, to purchase an animal from them, most only sell the animals after neutering them. So, if you lose the choice of breeding the dog. The prices are driven sky high for puppies, by increased costs that many consumers will not pay. Too many are going cheap when purchasing the animals, and do so by going to big companies or auctions. But there are reputable businesses that sell dogs too.

You see all the behaviors this puppy showed was that he/she was dominating you the "humping" the licking and biting it clearly shows that this puppy would be dog human aggressive and it was taken away from mom to early
I'd rather buy from a pet store than adopt. Case closed. Usually the animals at adoption centers are just too hideous and dirty looking. (yep, i believe so ;) ) and the animals in pet stores are just too cute to pass up. Buying from a breeder is a MAYBE, only if the puppies are adorable. Call me horrible, disgusting, idgaf. Because it'll be my decision in the long run to ignore adoption centers and buy from those "puppy mills". Deal with it. ;)

I HATE how people say not to but dogs at pet stores. They need homes too! It isn't fair to them, and sure, rescuing a dog is great, but the pet store puppies and kittens need homes too.
I find it kind of odd that the pet shop here has the same name as two veterinaries here. They are all Davis. One of our guinea pigs died from worms four days ago, so we took the other one that was still alive to the vet. He gave him some shots to fight the worms, and now he's also dead.

It's a bogus excuse. If they were really concerned about puppies contracting illnesses via human handling they would not allow any touching like you see in the video clip. Theirs is just a blanket excuse to keep the animals from potentially falling and being injured. (Like dropped on their heads accidentally.) Remember there is money invested in these puppies and if one is damaged it cannot sell. Sad as it is....

It is cruel and unfortunately it is very common in the US and Canada. If you want to help never buy a dog from a pet store EVER!

I rescued all 4 of my dogs from dog pound and bought one dog that was not wanted at a pet shop. Owner talked about my the pup as if shes an item and that she needs to go somehow. I paid very little amount of money to get her because he was just glad to get rid of her.
I went back after one month to see the new owner with my puppy. She was so glad to see her. Old owner was still there and didnt even know who the pup was...
Im glad i saved her. Dont care what anyone says otherwise.

A puppy at the store always looks stupid in a cute way then u take him home. He grows and gets bigger than you when ur three and u can ride hime like a horse and he loves it... People should NEVER buy a puppy from a pet shop. If you do, you are simply lining the pockets of people that kill, torture, and wound dogs. I work (have worked for over a year) at a pet store, and none of our puppies are from mills. They are from local breeders only. So to say that all puppies are from mills is not true, people should research the store instead. The store I work for is a small business, so it would hurt them if all people believed that claim. Also, we do as much as possible to keep the puppies entertained and healthy. My boss would be very upset if any of the animals were harmed or sick.

One question do the animals get left in there at night if they have not been bought ? if so I feel quite bad for the animals here this dog seemed desperate to get out of the tank and I may be reading to much into it but I didn't see a food or water bowl and the bed seemed abit cheap the dog should have better treatment than this for the dog and do the people there take proper care of there animals ?

@crimsondevil2245 Well to be honest. You're actually right. But the pet stores only let out the puppies/kittens for a couple hours in a day. I actually went to Petco yesterday and they displayed kittens, which is where I got my kitten Casper. To be honest, they had plenty of space and food/water in the opposite side of the display, bedding in the middle, and the actual display case was where the puppies/kittens were. It was like an Igloo. I guess it was the angle of the video. (:
@NikkiBoom1 Usually at Petco and Petsmart those aren't really puppies and kittens for sale, they're from a shelter or rescue group that are doing outreach and putting their animals in the stores to get adopted easier. I have yet to see a Petco/Petsmart actually -sell- puppies and kittens (though I could be wrong).

I was in St. Louis, MO the other weekend to see my sister after she gave birth and I went by a pet store and they were all in cages in the back. Was sad looking but ohwell.

I rescued all 4 of my dogs from dog pound and bought one dog that was not wanted at a pet shop. Owner talked about my the pup as if shes an item and that she needs to go somehow. I paid very little amount of money to get her because he was just glad to get rid of her.
I went back after one month to see the new owner with my puppy. She was so glad to see her. Old owner was still there and didnt even know who the pup was...
Im glad i saved her. Dont care what anyone says otherwise.

A puppy at the store always looks stupid in a cute way then u take him home. He grows and gets bigger than you when ur three and u can ride hime like a horse and he loves it... But then when ur ten or eleven he gets old and starts to slow down. Now ur 17 and u ad to put him to sleep today because he was in so much pain. U lost a good friend and the best companion in one day. im never buying a dog again. i'll buy a cat. no one cares if the cat dies.

Petland is a good place to get dogs well sometimes like they take care of the dogs and they let you pet them and hold them . but dogs from petstores are from puppymills but sometimes petstore get them from mills to save them. because i got a dog from a petstore and they told me that that dog was from the puppymill but they saved lots of dogs from puppy mills

@snowball132123 Petland is NOT an ok place to get dogs. They are one of the worst perpetrators of getting sick dogs from puppy mills! Oh PLEASE, pet stores do not get dogs from mills to 'save' them. They get them because they are cheap. If they REALLY cared about dogs, they would stop buying from puppy mills altogether, which would end puppy mills. But no, all they care about is making a buck. And if they have to support animal torture and sell people sick dogs to do it, so be it.

People should NEVER buy a puppy from a pet shop. If you do, you are simply lining the pockets of people that kill, torture, and wound dogs. The only exception to this is when a huge pet store like Petsmart or Petco (which don't sell dogs normally) have an adoption day or something, and rehome dogs. Other than that, to buy a dog from a pet store is cruel.

@pohai710 Hopefully it's true that they are not buying from puppy mills, but just because someone seems nice even after 5 years is not assurance that they do not buy from puppy mills. Its best to go to a breeder and see where the puppies are raised and be able to see the parents.

when i was young, i bought 2 puppies from a pet store (which later had to close down due to legal reasons)
i did NOT know anthing about puppy mills and i never thought such a horrible thing coul exist.
I got another dog..from a shelter. its a puppe pomeranian, diagnosed with CDV - fatal... He died at the age of 3 1/2 month....
A creature which was born on this planet only had 3 MONTHS to live!! its nothing.. he couldnt enjoy growing up...he was in constant pain.. thats not fair!!!!

I work (have worked for over a year) at a pet store, and none of our puppies are from mills. They are from local breeders only. So to say that all puppies are from mills is not true, people should research the store instead. The store I work for is a small business, so it would hurt them if all people believed that claim. Also, we do as much as possible to keep the puppies entertained and healthy. My boss would be very upset if any of the animals were harmed or sick.

i always visit my local pet store (Don't worry i'm not getting a puppy from there) and one time i asked the girl if i could see a puppy and she said that they couldn't take them out because they can get sick. I was like wtf??? Whenever i go on there, the puppies look so sick, and i feel so bad for them. i wanna do something so the petstore would close down, like maybe hold a protest? lol that puppy is very cute btw

One question do the animals get left in there at night if they have not been bought ? if so I feel quite bad for the animals here this dog seemed desperate to get out of the tank and I may be reading to much into it but I didn't see a food or water bowl and the bed seemed abit cheap the dog should have better treatment than this for the dog and do the people there take proper care of there animals ?

@crimsondevil2245 Well to be honest. You're actually right. But the pet stores only let out the puppies/kittens for a couple hours in a day. I actually went to Petco yesterday and they displayed kittens, which is where I got my kitten Casper. To be honest, they had plenty of space and food/water in the opposite side of the display, bedding in the middle, and the actual display case was where the puppies/kittens were. It was like an Igloo. I guess it was the angle of the video. (:

@NikkiBoom1 Usually at Petco and Petsmart those aren't really puppies and kittens for sale, they're from a shelter or rescue group that are doing outreach and putting their animals in the stores to get adopted easier. I have yet to see a Petco/Petsmart actually -sell- puppies and kittens (though I could be wrong).

@Idess Well where do you live? It all depends. I don't think you're wrong, but in Germany they take good care of their kittens/puppies. I was in St. Louis, MO the other weekend to see my sister after she gave birth and I went by a pet store and they were all in cages in the back. Was sad looking but ohwell.

These dogs are already potty trained and you always wanna start fresh and not deal with a dog who has emotional or abandonment issues from the pound. Trust me, I 've worked at a pound, the adoptee always returns them cuz the dog is usually problem.

That causes mental issues for them, they need fresh air. They also have many illnesses from horrid puppy mill breeding. They cost a fortune, all you are doing is keeping the puppy mills up and running. Dog at shelters are way better, they are already fixed, vaccinated, well taken care of and happy. Adoption fee is anywhere from $100-$250...

I do my part by not purchasing animals like dogs from a pet store. I get them from certified breeders and go to meet the parents and sometimes even grandparents of the puppies. I volunteer at shelters, I do small things. Yeah maybe I can't help the big picture by myself, but I still try.

But I don't think its the person who wants to buy a puppys fault. People like puppies (how can you not?)
