Mandisa made it very clear when she was on Idol that she was a Christian. She sang some Christian songs and she proclaimed the name of Jesus especially when she forgave Simon for the hurtful things she said about his weight. Phil Stacey is a lifelong Christian; I've seen him on Christian shows. Chris Sligh got kicked out of Bob Jones University for going to a Contemporary Christian music concert so I guess he is a Christian rebel. :(

@kittycrosby Actually Mandisa did not change the song. That is how the song was arranged/performed on Michael W. Smith's album "I'll Lead You Home" back in the 90's. As Mandisa stated before she sang it, Anointed sang on the track as well. They are a gospel group. It's not a "jazzy" arrangement, it's a "gospel/soul" arrangement. Gospel has been around as praise and worship music forever, it's not a new idea.

Was this a tribute for Michael W. Smith? I think this was just a Christian American Idol singing thing. I remember a couple years ago they did a tribute for Michael, a whole bunch of other CCM artists (i.e. SCC, Chris Tomlin, Amy, Mark Hall, etc.) sang Friends are Friends forever.

It seems he deserved more than a couple of songs performed by American Idols (no offense to them..they did a amazing job with singing) and him doodling on his piano. Kmon..Its Michael W smith lol. At least give him a life line of what he accomplished. The program seemed disorganized :o(
