That should be nominated for the Pontiac Game Changing Performance of the year. In all honesty, if you look at the ncaa rules, if a ball carrier tries to use a ref to "pick" the defender, the ref has the authority to take him down. He also can defend himself since he is "part of the field".

Jessie Palmer made the exact same point I've been trying to make since that happened. The umpire illegally interfered in a play, taking up a potential running lane and effectively functioning as a 12th man for LSU.

It was intentional, and it came at a critical juncture in a game that South Carolina had a legitimate chance of winning. That play led to a 4th down. Had this not happened the game could have turned out much differently.

At least fine the guy for it.

It's obvious the Ref planted himself as though he felt the QB would run into him, then threw his upper body into the QB instead even though the QB made a move to step aside of him. If Hackett doesn't have the mental awareness to remember he's a Ref, not an LB anymore and doesn't care enough to TRY to get out of the way he has no business being a Ref.

I don't think you can blame Hackett for that. He definitely stepped into him and delivered a small hit, but anyone that has played a collision sport can tell you that it's always hurts less to put the hit on someone than to get hit.

I like the coach's comments in the press conference. "You've got to wrap up." What happened to Hackett's fundamentals? :)
