I've always wondered why people actually say that "robots will bring us to extinction"...
It's not like they'd make any free choices... They do just what we program them to do. So if anyone will design killer robots, it's not the robots killing us, it's other people.
That's a good point of view, but the answer to that is " we die anyway " ... in your point of view weapons are good ( we just die if someone pulls the trigger ) , nuclear bombs are good ( we just die if someones pushes the button ) ... We all die if someone programs robots to do that, and we all know that if we have robots on the street some of them will be program to kill.
they may look innocent and sweet, but underneath their velvet skin their cold cybertronic brains are planning our extinction and a new world order of binary logic. We are advancing our own doom as we delve in this technology!
ok... maybe I watched too many sci-fi movies :)
gotta love movies like Blade Runner and Terminator.
Your forgeting the 3 Laws that robots must follow, you watch too many movies on robots. The future is much different than we think, and it is not all doom and gloom. Remember it is us who are the programmers, and A.I. is still 15 years away from robots thinking on they're own.
We can program them to do everyone of our jobs, and we can do what we would like to enjoy in life. As long as they have the 4th Law implanted to serve mankind.
aye we are the programmers on robots like these that greet people in the airport and does no thinking what-so-ever. Everything about those are pre-planned and they are totally harmless, but what happens when they implement neural computers capable of making experiences and adapting to changes in their environment? Will they learn to break the 4th law in order to do what all life must - which is to preserve itself?
... Ok you know I´m just making a joke right? Still interesting thoughts I think
If the robots do our jobs you won't be paid for your work, remember that ... and if you dont have money you will live under the bridge ... enjoy in life ? are you kidding ? xD you think the government will pay you for a job that a robot is doing ? You will be broke as fuck living under the bridge and stealing to eat, period ...
Don't be such a luddite, train at robotics programming. If we were all still plowing our fields by hand with hoes instead of tractors we would have a much less efficient economy. You have to adapt to the change to take advantage of the potential efficiency increase.
I don't think the machines are "planning our extinction" as you say, but I DO believe there is some merit in the belief that we are "advancing our own doom.." With the development of the realistic female bot, human males will mate with human females less and less as bots become more commonplace, and we would eventually just die out. By then, A.I. would be a reality for bots, and thus concious machines would then replace us as the dominant "species" of this planet.
Even if bots were intelligent enough to see our impending doom and in the interests of "serving mankind" they tried to warn us - people are hard headed and stubborn - it would impossible, even with the warnings of machines, to convince EVERY male in the world to cease mating with bots and re-populate our species. There aren't enough people that would think that far ahead....lets face it - us geeks are probably the only ones to even consider such a possibility.
We have that Fear of machines and robots taking over the world, and throughout history we've always been afraid of new ideas, and new inventions. The car was also one invention that people are afraid of, and today it is one of the most dangerous tools we use, but we use them every day as normal.
The same can go with robotics in our future. I'm not saying they will be dangerous, just the fact how we deal with them.
@bigsteelguy people will be so surprise,to know that there has been advance AI beyond what you see in this video from the late 80's. hollywood knows this, and this is why its in almost every movie and currently video games, of AI's taking over.
@hansnorleaf For sure, if we could, we should replace our human being by bots. Pure logic will never include the destruction of the own existence and the world. Human minds does.

So, in retrospect - it is as wise men have often said - mankind's arrogance will be his undoing.

So many hollywood movies portray an invasion from robots. We must overcome our fears.
Robots do not have the Conscious the Human traits of killing another human being. Only we have that ability to do so.
So We can use them to make a difference in our world and eliminate money all together, and create an abundant automated, duplicated environment.
Or we can continue down the path of destruction on our current profit driven system.
