Our 1968 JD 5020 was rated at 175 hp PTO with the turbo upgrade and no muffler, thats up from 125 hp PTO from the factory. These are amazing tractors. The only thing wrong with ours is the shifter is worn out and sometime the transmission will get out of sinc with the gear pattern. Great tractor!
@brian93ist excuse me good sir but you are wrong all diesels will smoke.i drove a 06 case mx305 for a farmer and i was cultivating in 12 gear and started up a hill and it luged down and that turbo slowed down and it poured black smoke un till i down shifted and let the turbo spull back up then it cleared up
Brings back memories of my old 5020 (1966 model). THAT WAS POWER. Had no problem pulling 21' of Hutchmaster tandem disks with 24" blades to the spools in stubble in 4th gear. Loved that tractor.
the contractors i help they have getin 5 of those and some other amercan deeres hes got about 13 al together and then he has all the working tractors and that so he has 15 tractors altogether.and i love to drive the 5020 they dont half bark
I have a 5010 they were rated between 121hp to 132hp depending on the year. Lets remember that John Deere completely underates their horspower, by aleast 10-15 after the break-in.
That smokes like a Case and Allis Chalmers from the 1970s.The first 5020s were 133 pto hp while the later ones from 1969 on were 141 pto hp.The 5010 was tested at 121 pto hp
Hi, if you can drive in such a big gear, than your tractor must have enough power. Very nice to see. Do you also have a movie taken from the drivers seat? And what kind of disc is it?
@brian93ist you mean all the best tractors smoke

@fireman6937
This is unmodified. Shifter is worn, but not excessively so. Currently out of action, waiting to be split, suspected clutch failure.

Don't have drivers eye view of tractor, but have some VHS footage of even older John Deeres that needs digitising!
MrPaw45 2 years ago
too bad you haven't got that view. Hope to see those movies very soon here
