  • ...wow, I feel like my eyes have been open to a beautiful revelation. So informative~!

  • I've just recently chopped all my perm off after transitioning for a yr and 2months. before veiwing your video, i was having trouble with moisture and my hair. Thank you so much for breaking down how to seal and moisturize your hair. Very helpful.

  • What a helpful video... I usually do LCO... would that work as well? How do you lock in moisture on a daily basis? Thank you!!!

  • @TheIdeabaker Did you ever get an answer? I'm wondering the same...

  • @ExFhailure She said that yes, that would work as well :).

  • thank you so much for the information

  • I've been trying so hard to find a video that told me what i need to do to lock in my moisture. thank you, thank you, THANK YOU

  • Thank you sooooo much for this info!! I really needed to know these things.

  • Thank u for the info on sealing. But on urbanbush, she said do it LCO instead of LOC. Hmmmm??? I will try your way first . I have type 4b or c hair and its been knotting up like crazy! Could you please tell me, is a cold rinse good after rinsing with warm?

  • DO you ever grease your scalp?????

  • This is an incredible video!

  • I just tried it this morning....My curls popped more....my hair looks better PERIOD....I have been natural for about 2 1\2 months...I am going to see how.my hair does all day with this method.....It.may a keeper...Thanks for the tip my sister....CONGRATS ON YOUR BLESSING!!!!

  • This is so questionable, but I've done this method for over a year and a half, and it does work!!!

  • I don't think that this method would hurt anyone, but I find it to be wasteful.

A cream is just oil + water with a binding agent (usually fatty alcohols) that lightly moisturizes hair.

A liquid leave in is basically just a diluted, watery conditioner.

I don't feel the need to use so many similar products at once.

A leave in of your choice followed by an oil of your choice is this method simplified. Less waste of time, product and money. Also less buildup on the hair.

    jmho

    Happy growing!

  • @Exactings Glad I saw this before I utilized the technique, but I would think if you went through with all three steps the four layers would be there longer and moisturize longer as well?

  • Thank you

  • I also thought the creme goes before the oil... wouldn't the oil keep the creme from absorbing if applied first?

  • @Asja05 yeah i swear the oil is the last thing you do!

  • I just tried and OMG it works. I did twist after and did not need to constantly spray my hair. I could feel the moisture all the way down to my ends. Thanks so much, finally I believe I will see some serious hair growth.

  • I love the song...BAP...BAP...BAP!

  • Makes sense to me too! I will be using this method for the Winter months. Thanks for sharing :-)

  • Hi Blackonyx. How often should I be washing my hair and how should I be washing it. Until I can get your products, what do you suggest? Please help. I'm 2 months post bc, transitioned 8 months, so I started with a good length but I want my hair to really grow in this first year. HELP! New natural and loving it, but I'm stuck now. Thanks in advance.

  • Thanks for this video. I had been sealing incvorrectly up until now. I think I have been using the right ingredients, but not effeciently. I cant wait to try this :)

  • I need a liquid moisturizer can anyone suggest some and a creme by name that I can find easy at a pharmacy???

  • Question for clarification: Shouldn't oil be the last product to apply to your hair, as oil seals your hair and anything put on after that, does not get in your hair shaft? Please clarify. Thanks

  • @LuvmyNaturalhair4eva

    I heard the same thing.

  • I think this is the answer to my dry hair problem. I do have a question. I use a leave in conditioner. Should I moisten my hair after the leave in or omit the step and just use the LOC method?

  • I love ur hair styles n the information u give.... Very handy info thanx a bunch... I've tried following u on twitter

  • the correct order according to the book Science for Black Hair, is water, leave in, cream, oil. Oil is last to seal in the moisture.

  • This is such an educational video...thank you so much for breaking it down the way you did! :)

  • What about Doo Gro Mega Thick Anti Thinning Growth Lotion is that a good moisturizer i use that, are Doo Gro products good or bad i think they good not the best but i think they good.

  • @isaacgourrier thats not a good product I tired that before. Try Liv which is a creme or shea moisture curl enhancing smoothie which is a creme also.

  • Love this song!!!!

  • Great Video!! Very clear and to the point. Thks God Bless

  • Thanks so much for this vid! this solved my problem of dull crunchy hair. Love your vids!!!

  • Hey B

I live in London and can't get your products easily can u suggest some natural alternatives to LOC

  • At first i didnt wanna watch cuz this was 10 min! Lol and i was hoping u wouldnt ramble nd u didnt this was to the point. But u said warm water opens the cuticle nd moisture can get in but how do u close after wouldnt goibg under cold water just wash it right out or do i put all the moisture in after i rinse with cold water? Im confused lol

  • I do all the steps...cowash, leave in condtioner, spray liquid mix of water, aloe vera juice, and Jojoba oil, then use a cream based moisturizer....slick down with eco style gel...but after my hair dries...it looks dry, not all glossy like yours...any suggestions.

  • This so works thankz

  • The LOC method has worked for me. My hair loves it!!!!

  • Just wanted to let you know that I am opening a natural hair care salon in St.Thomas in September and as of now I will only be using your product line. **Excited** :)

  • I think a lot of us have such difficulty with this concept because of the cream coming after the oil, so why not try LOCO? With using a liquid, very light oil, cream, and then another oil or butter, you're protecting your hair with TWO barriers of water and oil, going yet another step in protecting our hair....just a thought

  • i remember chicoro sharing this tip awhile back..not saying you jacked it but it makes me know it's probably a definite winner...idk why i never tried it!

  • @stop08it I remember seeing this in her book. I'm glad Blackonyx made a video about it though because it does work well.

  • So, All of this time we've been hearing to use oil last as a barrier hold all the moisture in, How is using the cream last better than the oil? When it does make since that oil creates a barrrier. What are your thoughts. Also with the cream. Is this a moisturizing cream or a styling butter?

  • GREAT TIPS BUT I HAVE READ IN SEVERAL ARTICLES TO USE COLD WATER INSTEAD OF WARM WATER

  • This method works well for me but I do it in a different order. Water, Cream, then Oil. I feel as if the oil seals it all in.

  • Loved this video. You are so passionate about this topic of natural hair care! Your hair is very full. I have long hair mainly at the bottom but had so much breakage at the crown, it's now finally starting to grow now that I knowhow to care for my hair.

I've heard about sealing the moisture with oil after the deep conditioner but not the cream. I will try this. thanks

  • OMG!!! I love your hubby's song... I be jamming to it when I'm watching your video's...

  • Hey Blackonyx77 I heard that conditioner should be rinsed with cool water...........What do you recommend?

  • thank u for this video

  • Great great info

  • Great video! I must share with everyone who has natural hair. Moisture is one of the keys to hair growth.

  • Amen to the Lemongrass Leave in- that has become my staple during my transition, love the sent, will be doing a review on it soon

  • What type of creams can I use for the third step? Does anyone have any suggestions? Thx :).

  • Are you gonna change the music lol it would be nice if you switched it up a bit im sure your hubby wont mind lol

  • Thank you so much...I accidentally finally figured it out but after seeing your video I know I'm doing the right thing. God bless!

  • I tried this process and it worked for me! Thanks so much!

  • Thank you for the video blackOnyx and welcome back you were missed!!!!!

  • Now I have perfect direction for my morning routine! Thanks girl

  • I REALLY appreciate this video! My hair is almost always brittle dry! :( QUESTION: How often do you advise doing these steps? Every night? Or just after washing? Also what if your hair is in a stretched style...wetting it defeats the purpose...thats my big dilemma. I want stretched styles however I cant keep moisture in...

  • So I been doing this since the first tine I seen this video. And I can DEFINITELY feel the difference. Ill spread the world on my FB page...THANKS AGAIN!

  • THANK YOU THANK YOU!! I have been battling dryness ever since ive been natural (over a year) and this technique is AMAZING!! This week has been like wow = D

  • very informative, thx

  • This video was very helpful to me. What can be done about thin edges or seems like receding hair line in women?

  • Thanks for the tip its really helpful. Can you do a video about fairy knots? What can I do to avoid them?Love your hair btw keep up the good work :)

  • I'm so happy that you're back

  • Awsome video!! Thank you for the info....

  • Ummm... tomorrow is my wash day I'll Try this thanks :)

  • Lol I mean liquid leave- in

  • Where can I find a good liquid oil

  • @cierrat22 U can try Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Jojoba oil or coconut oil. All good oils.

  • do you travel to universities???

  • Luv the video and i make sure i LOC daily!! Where did u get jewelry from?? Those bracelets were rocking!

  • Very educational video on sealing it in, thank you for taking the time to explain!

  • No shade intended BlackOnyxx!!!! U were the first you tuber I started watching for natural hair advice over a year ago. I even made purchases from ur store (and was very disappointed with the changes made to the honey and sage deepconditioner recipe...just to throw that out there) But since that time I have become more educated on the topic.

  • While this method can be helpful it's not necessarily sealing in moisture. It's important, especially as a new natural to do ur own research. A good place to start would be to learn about Ph balance (a scientifically proven way of sealing in moisture) There are great videos of that here on you tube. Kimmaytube has a homemade Ph balanced leave in conditioner that i have been using since the winter. It works awesomely!!! and best of all she shows how to make it in a video for FREE!!!!

  • @bianca1shante you're right that people should do their own research but at the end of the day, our hair likes what it likes. There are so many products/techniques that are SUPPOSED to work for my hair but my hair hates... anyway the kimmaytube leave in doesn't work for everyone...my hair needs extra extra help to seal in moisture and this is perfect for me and anyone who needs something more intense.

  • Thank you. This is helpful. I've been natural and following you for going on two years. I haven't taken the best care of my hair. I change that, today.

  • You are so right i started doing thr L.O.C mwthod before i new it ws a method.......i use olive oil or a mixture of evoo and vitamin e for the oil part, that ok right? I jus did micro two strand twist yesterday and i made sure i moisrurize it and now ita 10:54 and my hair is still moisturized and soft YAY L.O.C. great vid :)

  • yeah, my natural hair is a pain:/

right after i "moisturize" it, my mom always says "your hair looks dry. did you even try to do it today:/

  • just want to say you're beautiful and videos like this inspired me to go natural. i'm just getting started (last perm sept 2010) so i haven't done the big chop yet, but i'm already seeing healthier growth and soon i hope it'll all be healthy and gorgeous like yours!

  • Thank you so much, for suggest this. My hair feels so soft!!!

  • I agree sealing is CRUCIAL for our hair. But I think it makes more sense to apply the oil AFTER the cream as oil seals in water / water-soluble ingredients, and not the other way round.

  • @dreamsatsea I just saw in the vid that your cream is Shea butter-based, which is an oil an so gives your cream sealing properties. But for people who have water-based creams I think it's pointless to apply after the oil.

  • thanks for this vid! very helpful and now ill remember "L-O-C" thanks for the acronym diva!:)

  • Thanks, Black Onyx for such valueble info shared in a way that anyone can understand!!!

I love your voice and the way you speak!

  • Great video. Question: I am now rocking a Caesar (varying from 1/8 to 1/2 inches long) and I love it! I may not ever grow it out longer... Is the LOC method necessary for hair so short? My hair is dry & I want to know what to use. I have your deep conditioner (which is fabulous) but I know with this style I don't need to use so much product. Help!

  • Keep your naturalhair moisturized using Alikay Naturals Mini Hair Collection, perfect Start to Your HealthyHair Journey....

  • I have that shirt

  • Can you explain what is the difference between moisturizing and sealing and sealing in the moisture? Please help.

  • thank you sooo much becaus I have been soooo confused about moisture and how to properly seal in the hair right. And now I finally understand thank you :)

  • Thanks so much for sharing!!

  • thank you, thank you...L.O.C, I'll definately remember that :-)

  • I love the jewelry. thx a lot

  • thank you!!!

  • Can u do a vid of you doing this

  • Very informative THANKS!

  • what other light oils do you recommend for sealing in moisture?

  • Good video!!!

  • Do your products work for 4C hair?

  • Can You please do a video with washing your hair and do the steps.... I'm in desperate need to know how exactly how to keep the moisture thank you!!...LOVE THE VIDEO

  • This is great since I watched this video and started doing this loc my hair has felt so great wow thanks for the info love you ta def

  • @blackonyx77 thanks for the info! I tried the L.O.C method and even though I'm transitioning I noticed a big difference in my hair in how it felt!

  • Thank U sweetie... Im glad to see ur back!!

  • Has anyone ever told you that you're fantastic? I love all your vids, and thank you so much for sharing your knowledge!

  • Hi BlackOnxy, I'm still in my TWA stage and I cowash almost everyday. Is this a process i can do everyday since I'm cowashing? It was great seeing you at the health, beauty and business expo in June in Orlando.

  • Hey, I do these things to my hair also. I never really though of it as in L-O-C though. It's just a process that I've been doing since I've been relaxed. Nice video. Keep up the good work =)

  • Thanks, sis. This info was very helpful. Now, I can target the products I'll be purchasing from you soon. That isn't to say I won't be trying other things but it sure is helpful to know how to use the products and what they'll do for you hair. Much love, Z.

  • Love those earrings! I dont see that pair on the site. I see ones that have more color...I would like to have the solid wooden ones.

  • great video with so much info...thanks

  • Thanks! Maybe u could say "Loc in moisture"...

  • This is sooo true! When you seal your hair this way it's sooo soft feels like baby hair but it also comes with great products and learning how to use them on YOUR hair! Thanks for the upgrade Blackonyx!

  • love the tips do u have any tips for transitioners?

  • Great video thanks

  • This video has been sooooo helpful to me. Just a quick question; how often should one repeat this process of liquid, oil and cream? It's so easy to end up under moisturising or over moisturising your hair.

  • @EndlessPraise4Jesus only do it once, no need to repeat..and i only do it when i wash my hair...otherwise if im retwisting i just spray a little lemongrass then use a tad bit of yogurt for retiwst

  • Have missed your video. Thanks for posting

  • Nevermind I went to your site. Duh! Lol I will be purchasing some products right now.

  • Can you post links to these products?

  • Great advice!!

    Thx so much!

  • I like the video but at what point in this method is the cuticle closed? I don't see that step. What about pH? Why cream after the oil since oil seals OUT moisture? The cream will just sit on top of the oil and not penetrate the cuticle & get into the hairshaft.

  • @ladytee1981 Great questions...as the hair cools i.e by air drying the cuticles close naturally or some people force close cuticles by rising with cold water after hair wash which i dont recommend...Im not a big pH focuses, except I am pH conscious when it comes to hair coloring process ill share that in another vid...Oil is a sealant yes, but if a ligh oil is used its not a full sealant so therefore the cream can penetrate teh shaft through a light oil..ppl who seal with oil use heavy oils

  • @ladytee1981 like black castor oil etc, but i dont because heavy oils tend to weigh my hair down...and i like light bouncy fro

  • @ladytee1981 I recommend rinse with cool water to start cuticle closing process but not cold cold water since t closes it too fast

  • @ladytee1981 Your correct about the order.Instead of Liquid-Oil-Cream it should be Liquid-Cream-Oil or just Liquid-Oil if you have finer hair.Once the oil is place on the hair fibers it not only seals moisture in but it also creates a barier for moisture to get in.So, not LOC but instead LCO.Your also correct when it comes to pH balance.pH of the products you use will further facilitate in your efforts to close your cuticals.I suggest toadd Aloe Vera juice to your cream or liquid.Hope this helps

  • @ladytee1981 agreed. oil is last. LCO. Thanks for the emphasis moisture Black:)

  • @ladytee1981 i guess just add aloe vera to whatever liquid you use

  • So glad you posted this!

What sort of protective styles are you planning on doing this winter? You seem to always have your hair out in you vids, so I wonder if you only ps in the colder months? I was planning on maybe wearing double french braids this winter that I would just redo each week, but idk if it would be a good winter style to help me retain length...?

  • good video!

  • what about rinsing with cool water after washing out product with warm water?

  • girl that is a very helpful tip!! Imma try that on my hair!

  • i know that this helped someone

  • My hair is so...raspy! Lol ima try this method lol thank you

  • Do you do this after conditioning or do you skip that step?

  • That makes so much sense! Thanks for the vid

  • I can hear the passion in your voice! Thanks for sharing your knowledge and taking the time to share that with us!

  • What about H20 being the liquid then oil and cream. That is what I do! Keep the videos coming:)

  • Thank you so much! I don't have a problem retaining moisture, but I will definitely give your method a try to see if I experience any improvement in my hair. Thank you again. Glad your back and doing well. Be Blessed!
