Bobby Jones deserves more credit as a great player in his career. He was one of the greatest defensive players of all time. Philly should consider retiring his jersey.
i wahtch this series when i was in high school, they favored the Celtics, all the way, its very evident in game 7, The NBA robbed the Sixers the opportunity.
I wonder in this 2009 PLAYOFFS serie can the Cleveland Cavaliers accomplished that same feat against Orlando magic the same way the Celtics did in 1981 against the 76ers. I wonder and hope if the CLEVELAND CAVALIERS CAN...but they are not the same TEAM...But I still keep my faith in the CAVS
I am a conservative so I don't want affirmative anything. This game 7 is the first time that officiating in the NBA made me question whether professional gambling or corruption was involved. I was digusted that such an important game could be so negatively dominated by officiating. This turned out to be a prelude to what I believe has been 35 years of poor officiating in the NBA. I submit that officiating in the NBA is the worst of any major professional sport and has been for a long time.
i completely agree. it's disgraceful, even this past season. i can think back to a few from the past too, like sacramento / la series, the jordan favoritism, miami / dallas, etc.
no, i think what he's saying is the the officials have fixed the entire existence of the Clippers organization...it's not that the Clippers are a shitty organization, but rather the league doesn't want two dominant teams in L.A., they figure one is enough...but lets be serious for a moment, if you're from L.A. how can you be a Clipper fan when we've got one of the greatest basketball franchises of all time, in the Lakers... stupid people you are...
@NDMike Great Point, Look at Game 7 of Indiana vs N.Y. in 94' with that Reggie Miller foul at the end... Imagine if the NBA had a low-market Indiana/Houston series
this recap left out game 7, at 91-89, Cheeks gets a break away and is HAMMERED to the floor. He only makes one to pull 91-90. Sixers get a stop but theres no time left. The foul on Cheeks would be 2 and possesion if it was played today.
@torr5962 I don't think the game was that poorly officiated. The Mo Cheeks play was really close but Cheeks got the call. It could have been a charging call.
The Lakers had a fine team that year (54-28). They just ran into a buzz saw. They didn't match up well with Houston. That was the first season that I followed the Rockets from start to finish and I have been a fan ever since. Del Harris slowly molded that team into HIS team and by the end of the season they were as good as anyone. A few breaks here and there we could have beaten Boston.
@marqymarq1 Yes Magic did miss 45 games that season which makes their 54-28 record that year much more impressive. They had to adjust to playing without him and then adjust to playing with him again and were somewhat out of sync. Still they probably would have beaten the rest of the Western Conference playoff teams but always seemed to have problems with Malone and Paultz and the Rockets half court game
@riotusa1 Good analysis. As an 8 yr. old, I watched Moses Malone dominate the series against L.A.. I immediately got worried when I saw that Philly got Malone in that trade. I knew they would beat my Lakers all because of Moses. Is it me, or did it seem like L.A., Boston and Philly played every Sunday on CBS?...
@arkansoul Yes, it did seem like it was always two of those three teams playing on CBS in the early 80s. You would ocasionally see Portland or Marques Johnson and Milwaukee, but 90 % of the televised games were either Celtics/Sixers, Lakers/Celtics or Sixers/Lakers. That began to change in the mid 80s when Olajuwon and Jordan came into the league and Wilkins' Hawks and Thomas' Pistons emerged
@riotusa1 Another thing, back in the great 80s, every team had at least 2 stars. Name any team from 1980-89 and you'll find 2 stars on EVERY team. It was the team(s) that had 3 stars that won the Finals. Just go back and research it.

At 6:45 watch Bird try and dunk on two men. He could jump at that time of his career. I remember him dunking a lot his early in his career.

I LOVE this music from the NBA videos. It's like remixes of 70s hits.

The most unforgettable and unforgiveable stat of game 7 was that in the Garden, Boston had 35 more free throws than the Sixers.

So you want affirmative action in free throws? Unless you show where the calls were not warranted, you have no case!

Oh yeah? Have you seen the NFL?
BTW, are you predicting another 8 years of bad officiating since it's only been 27 years since this game?
another BTW, I'd argue it's was fair given that Chuck Daly was on the Sixers staff and his teams were notorious for hard fouls and brutal tactics.
yet another BTW, you still haven't shown evidence of bad officiating.

Lol, no "Clipper" is a nickname of mine. I could care less about the Clippers, and it is a little wacky to root for them.

The Lakers just didn't have it that season..losing in the wild card round of the playoffs to Houston..Magic's injury was the reason..
