Well, the Biblical prediction of the end of days, according to Jesus himself, was within the lifetime of at least one of his audience. Somehow the myth of the Eternal Jew, cursed to live until the second coming in order to prevent a total prophesy failure, seems to have faded from canon.

Of course there's no absolute standard, at least one group gets burned by their predictions every few years.

I plan on attending my son's graduation from Uni in 2012. I think he would be major-league pissed off if the world was to end just when he wants to start. 2. Jesus actually promised his disciples that most of them would live to see it all happen... but 2000 years later - is still has'nt!!! So either he lied!, or some of them are still alive and walking among us... Or crawling among us (2000 years are much by all standards!)...
