  • I am considering surgery for my crohn's through the Mayo Clinic. Does minimally invasive does this mean laprascopic?

  • @lindsay8187

Thank you for your question. Yes, minimally invasive does mean laparoscopic.

If you have additional specific question, feel free to contact Dr. Dozois directly. His secretary's number is 507-284-2218.

  • @mayoclinic Once you have had open surgery, does it decrease or eliminate your chances of being able to have laparoscopic surgery for future needs?

  • @shell1115 Page 1: Thank you for your question.

Minimally invasive surgery can still be offered to patients who have had previous open surgery. In fact, many of the series we have published on minimally invasive surgery includes patients who had previous open surgery.

  • @shell1115 page 2 There is a risk though that too many adhesions from the prior surgery will prevent a minimally invasive approach. At Mayo Clinic, we always consider a minimally invasive approach first and then if it does not seem possible once the camera is placed inside the abdomen, we convert to open surgery. Dr. Dozois
