Clearly her turning sequences are flawless, but it would have been nicer to see some more side aerials, complex leaps, and gymnastics-type moves (back handsprings, etc.).
She only turns to the one side which tells me she is a one sided dancer. When you can turn both sides and demonstrate then I will pay the credit! But well done for her age.

Technique in the end means a lot more besides she does dance with emotion, happiness is what her think is her. Maddie does Lyrical, which is more about emotion in the first place but this isn't that. you want to see Sophia do something emotional look at Sweet Dreams, another solo of hers.

And damn good dance technique at that. Think about it; technique is what sets good dancers apart from great dancers. Anybody can wave their arms in the air and call that dancing, but it takes a really good dancer to do pirouettes and leaps like Sophie's.

This girl is SUPER talented! She does a lot of turns but did you see her turns??!! Wow! And I love how she dances too. I have watched several of her videos and her dancing is beautiful even without the turns...
Yes she is does a thousand turns and kicks and you might see very little dancing but thats what it is these days. Judges are stunned by the skill an technique dances have. These days the ones that win the most technique so i guess they go with it. Yes it doesn't hurt to put more actual dancing in it, but its showstopper... everyone shows it off, thats how it goes.

Yes she is flexible & can do thousands spins But she cant dance If you watch all her dances theyre all are made up of the same spins leaps kicks and rolling around on the floor But when it comes down to actual dancing there is very little and its done quite poorly She is an amazing performer for someone her age though & I admire her confidence plus her tap solo My Own Rhythm is outstanding My main problem is that these days dance is just becoming one gymnastics trick after another to music.
@VVictoriaHHope That's why its called competition dance. Also, it depends on what style she is actually competing in. These are skills that judges want to see at these types of conventions. I agree with you. There really is not much actual "dancing" in this piece but that's not what its all about.
@VVictoriaHHope Because they incorporate dance. All of the movements she is doing are all dance moves. These are the things that "studio" kids learn when they are young. This is what her choreographer has taught her and these are the skills in the competitions that get you a high score. I wouldn't really expect many children to do more original/artistic movement at this age, especially because it takes a more mature mind and experience to do so.

@VVictoriaHHope Actually this is more of a musical theatre style jazz where dancers normally do show off tricks and turns. Have you watched any of her new routines for 2011? She is dancing. Last time I checked leaps and turns are a major part in all professional dance companies and once she gets the emotion and feeling behind her dancing she is going to make it way further in the professional dance world then you ever will! LETS NOT FORGET SHE IS 8! Id like to see what you could do at 8.

If you read my post properly, you would understand that my annoyance is directed toward what dance is becoming, not Sophia. I understand that these tricks are what judges now look for, but in my opinion, I don't see them as dancing. This girl is SUPER talented! She does a lot of turns but did you see her turns??!! Wow! And I love how she dances too. I have watched several of her videos and her dancing is beautiful even without the turns...

Yes she is does a thousand turns and kicks and you might see very little dancing but thats what it is these days. Judges are stunned by the skill an technique dances have. These days the ones that win the most technique so i guess they go with it. Yes it doesn't hurt to put more actual dancing in it, but its showstopper... everyone shows it off, thats how it goes.
Geeze people are so judgefull lately :/

This is just wrong... sure she's flexible and her pirouettes are amazing, but an 8 year old shouldnt be dancing sexy like this. That's the problem with today's child dancers and studios.

Yes she is flexible & can do thousands spins But she cant dance If you watch all her dances theyre all are made up of the same spins leaps kicks and rolling around on the floor But when it comes down to actual dancing there is very little and its done quite poorly She is an amazing performer for someone her age though & I admire her confidence plus her tap solo My Own Rhythm is outstanding My main problem is that these days dance is just becoming one gymnastics trick after another to music.

@VVictoriaHHope That's why its called competition dance. Also, it depends on what style she is actually competing in. These are skills that judges want to see at these types of conventions. I agree with you. There really is not much actual "dancing" in this piece but that's not what its all about.

@VVictoriaHHope Because they incorporate dance. All of the movements she is doing are all dance moves. These are the things that "studio" kids learn when they are young. This is what her choreographer has taught her and these are the skills in the competitions that get you a high score. I wouldn't really expect many children to do more original/artistic movement at this age, especially because it takes a more mature mind and experience to do so.

@VVictoriaHHope Actually this is more of a musical theatre style jazz where dancers normally do show off tricks and turns. Have you watched any of her new routines for 2011? She is dancing. Last time I checked leaps and turns are a major part in all professional dance companies and once she gets the emotion and feeling behind her dancing she is going to make it way further in the professional dance world then you ever will! LETS NOT FORGET SHE IS 8! Id like to see what you could do at 8.

@FierceTiaChanel There is no need to be rude. I'm not blaming Sophia for anything. If you read my post properly, you would understand that my annoyance is directed toward what dance is becoming, not Sophia. I understand that these tricks are what judges now look for, but in my opinion, I don't see them as dancing. It's excellent if you can do them and use them to highlight your routine, but I feel there should be more. It's my opinion, you may disagree but you don't need to tell me to shut up.
