In the end it is the umpire that calls time. The ump cocked up. Just like the gf and just like the dogs-saints pf. Why don't the afl change the result as if bad umpiring did not occur. Rubbish call by a rubbish mob.
this was bullshit, you can't change the result of the game thanks to poor umpiring, if that was the case about every game would have the result reversed.
@mcllamalam the timekeepers duties is to keep blowin the siren untill acknowledged by either 1 of the 3 field or emergency umpires by extendin their arm above their head, all the original talk bout sackin the umpires should never have been bought up coz the timekeeper would have known bout it the hole time.
After this incident, all field umpires r hooked up with their microphines with the timekeepers
@mhull14 yeah im not saying thats not the case. but before this happened it had never been an issue. also you saying that doesnt change anything that i said about the siren being shit, coz it was, and how it wasnt an umpiring mistake, coz it wasnt.
@sagnowski The game was ended. siren was blown and one of the umpires heard it and called time. Are you saying that you should be able to kick points after time had been called?
@buzzydog112 Evidently the time wasn't called. Hence the point kicked after the siren. Games are decided on the error of officials often but the result stays the same and that is the case across almost every sporting code.
Im a dockers fan, im a member, we won that game fair and square, finished in draw, later that week they said they are taking 2 points of ST KILDA and giving us the full 4 points. They should have finished straight after that ball up.
Turns out the timekeeper blew the siren, but didn't realise that the umpires hadn't heard. When the siren was blown again, StK had already scored. The siren has since been replaced, but even when I was umpiring local footy a week or so before the infamous match, the siren was hard to hear, even with less than 500 people in the stands.
Wow it took the time keeper a long time to realise the siren didn't blow. Are you sure the time keeper isn't a St Kilda supporter. It sound all very suspicious to me - Even the AFL was covering some crap here!
No, this doesnt mean scores reset. What it means is that people should use their commonsense, which was used in the end. Freo got the points they earned. - Go the Power.
i heard the siren all day to be honest. It was fine, we were in the Gunns Stand (and we could hear it and their isn't a siren in the gunns stand. I didn't hear the siren at the end.
Is a coach or other players allowed on the field during the game. Technically no, while the free kick was taken, both teams were on the ground. Does this actuallymean that by under the rules, both teams get their score reset to zero?
and did u see sandilands (#31) at the goals next to the goal umpire after baker his second shot at goal, hes hell tall compared to the umpire, go the dockers!
yeh im heaps glad freo won that, its true the siren was faint all day but u could see schammer (#3) celebrating and telling the others the siren went before the umpire did a ball up.
When you see the long blonde haired Thornton celebrating in the foreground, I think thats the best indicator. You can just hear the OHHHH from the crowd (in response to the stoppage) change pitch slightly from the sirens influence.
I just realised conolly kind of looks like an older ballentyne

It should have been 0 seconds left with the ball up then after the ball up the siren goes, no time for a point!

Actually Sagnowski, because Saints scored after the siren they can change the result because Saints did not score during play.
In the end the umpires fucked up and they all got punished i believe because they also gave a free kick after play had finished.
They changed the result to the correct one thst should have initially been put in place.
They have replaced the sirens in that particular oval to save any further controversy.
In the end the right result came out the winner

@sagnowski Waht about the timekeppers.
It is in the rules that they must keep blowing the siren until one of the umpires heard it.
They didn't do it.
redhead3199 1 year ago
@redhead3199 bad umpiring call. If you want to go on that you have to reverse the result of just about every game!

@Lowlifer1 actually the umpires didnt get in trouble because it was the shithouse siren that was the problem...

The field umpire who heard the siren should of called time immediatley to save all that confusion.

I guess they eventually took the players word for it, or the emergency umpire came out and told one of them.
