yes, its true this only works with certain numbers as so many people say. BUT, this is one of the many varying possible tactics. if a person understands different tactics for different situations, they could do this with any problem.

This method is only effective for 2 digit numbers as long as they're between 90 and 100

Example: 47 x 58

Step 1: subtract each from 100, u get

53 and 42

Step 2: subtract one of the pairs

47-42 = 5 (do this)

58-53 = 5 (or this, you get 5)

Step 3: This is where you run into problems cuz now you have to multiply together, the numbers you got in step 2, so

53*28 = 2226 (BUT its hard to multiply those two in your head so who cares about this method)

now counting 31x21 in the head is hard...
