  • This docuentary was very silly.

  • I would love to see the other nine up here...any chance of posting?

  • @ivory1029

They are already posted; not by me though. The programme is called Bill Bailey's Top 10 Progressive Rock Bands.

  • Little Justin Bieber would shit in his diapers if Ian Anderson showed up at his door

  • @budmangt2 Is Justin even intelligent enough to know that he

    is not a great musician.

The top selling artists of today make me understand why there is

war on earth. Stupidity reigns!!! How high IQ do you need to listen to Bieber or Spears??

  • Un groupe très original, les Jethro Tull.

  • 1:22

definitely NOT "Back To The Family", it is "Sad Is A Mad Way To Be" and was not recorded in Hyde Park.

  • LOVED THICK AS A BRICK, AQUALUNG!!!!!

  • EXCELLENT !

  • Is that Piers Morgan broadcasting the news at 5:18 ?

  • Where can we find the whole show?

  • very nice video friend!! i have to ask you to give some support " bbuteo " by subscribing and leaving them a comment, i just discovered this band here in youtube and im already a big fan, they are making wonderful pop progressive rock, i can assure you that they are great, again, please check them(bbuteo) tx friend 5/5***

  • Sorry, Ian. "Mickey?" Can some UK resident explain this to an American please?

  • Britons have been using this figure of speech for decades. A "Mickey", is a "Mick": a pejorative, racist term for an Irishman (so nicknamed because so many Irish surnames begin with Mc- or Mac-) It is a common stereotype, in both the UK and USA, that Irish men have volatile tempers, like to brawl, and make good boxers. So, To "take the Mickey (out of someone)" means to take the vigour, the gravity, the self-importance out of them, by mocking them, usually in a very subtle way. (Urban Dictionary)

  • @helenmyeyes Ahh - now it makes sense. Anderson has often sent me scurrying to the dictionary, urban or otherwise. Thanks!

  • You're welcome! My love for his lyrics has made Ian Anderson the best English teacher I could've had as it's not my native language!

  • My dad loves Jethro Tull.

He told me back when he was my age in 1972, many a Jethro Tull and Pink Floyd vinyl were swapped hands in the hallways.

  • WATCH THIS:

    watch?v=suDxISFa9bg

  • i'm from panama....i didnt know about their music was played as a psycologic tactic against noriega(noriega) . its funny.... min5:20

  • WHY not? Have can you say that albums such as "Rajaz", "Moonmadness", "The Snow Goose" and "Dust and Dreams" aren't good? (Okay, you didn't SAY that, but they are AMAZING!) I'll be the first to admit that Camel and Tull are different, but IMHO Camel is better, mainly because they have been more consistantly good, though they have had some periods that weren't quite as good as the best ones.

  • Agreed. If you still don't believe this, just listen to Squigely Fair from the album A Nod and a Wink (and I'm not alone, The Stig also likes this song which makes the guessing to his idendity more easy as the possibilities are now limited to all three Camel fans!).

I see Jethro Tull as a heavier version of Camel and Jethro is better at technical parts but Latimer is better at writing moving, emotional songs (and no one can play the guitar the way he does).

  • Yeah, COMPLETELY agree... Until I was about twelve years old, I actually thought Squigely Fair and Rhayader were Jethro Tull songs... A bit embarassing, but that was before I really got into this music.

Still, I think Pete Bardens and Andy Ward were as technical as almost any Tull member. (MAYBE not John Evan(s) or Barriemore Barlow though).

  • hey whats the song they play while talking about the codpiece??? : )

  • the song at 1.20 is 'the driving song' not back to the family as stated

  • Agreed with Camel but maybe not with the other parts.

  • Same here...

  • A great documentary of this great band!

I even enjoyed the Benny Hill music at the end.

  • what are the other bands on this list?

  • from 10 -1 10 Camel 9 King Crimson 8 Hawkwind 7 Rush 6 Emerson, Lake & Palmer 5 Yes 4 Jethro Tull 3 The Moody Blues 2 Genesis 1 Pink Floyd
  • ooh thank you very much

  • where can i see the whole show? theres only half the show and jethro's part on youtube...

  • They're very old bands because Progressive Rock was predominantly a 70's thing. Admittedly there are a few bands around that still carry the banner for prog, but this top 10 was based on length of time these bands have spent in the British album charts. If the UK weren't so fickle when it came to music then maybe It would be a bit more diversified but as Prog was only fashionable in the UK in the 70's, and it's now against the law to be unfashionable in the UK, then that's why they're there.

  • Me sad. Most people are so dumb.

  • King Crimson should be top 3 on that list. Camel is OK, but Van Der Graaf Generator is a better prog band and should have the #10 spot.

  • True.

And please respect my opinion and the rest's, after all we are on the same "ship" (we are prog rock fans).

  • We are on the same ship. No worries, its only an slightly different opinion anyway.

  • enjoyed that right well I did!

  • "when elves were elves" - I always hear references to Prog rock and fairies/Tolkien, but I think those kind of lyrics popped up more in hippy bands like Zeppelin (although Tull did go a little folklorish around the late 70s).

  • What a great find thank you. I must say though that "Thick as a Brick" is much more serious and deeper that Ian lets on. A great album from a great band.

  • they said "even the French liked them" as if it was a rare thing... LOL! no.

  • OMG 4.55 is sooo funny!!! Haha, it's from the Too old video clip :D

Can someone tell me what does the video say about Noriega and Panama? I tried to understand but I'm not sure, thanks!

  • wow havent seen this video before, its so great.love it.and as jethro tull is now again being passed over at the rock and hall of shame again to some more no talent acts again, what a fing shame.ugggggggggg well we all know that ian and tull are splendely the best ever.i love them.thanks for your greatly appreciated lovely music.

  • i remember watching this when it was on tv years ago. i discovered king crimson through this programme so i owe a lot to it. god bless channel 4

  • I wish there was a full video of the early clip with him playing harmonica, in black and white.

  • That was from the free gig in Hyde Park from 29th of July 1968. I guess there is a recording of the whole thing in some archives somewhere. If only it could leak or be officially released or something... :(

  • Ok... well actually it was 29th of June. ;)

  • @renwod90 There is on a song for jeffry if you look it up

  • Ian's a Genius. One of the kind!

  • this is such a great video!

  • whats the very first song inter cut when he's talking about the codpiece?

  • Sorry for the late reply, but that is the one and only......... Minstrel in the Gallery! :D

  • Very witty indeed!!

    Good old Ian
