I recently upgraded to virgin media and set it up and everything, but every 7 minutes the internet switches off for one second and my xbox disconnects from xbox live. Yes use the Ps3 once set is complete and Ps3 will look for the settings and save them settings (wep,wpa password whatever security you have had setup) to the ps3 and you should be fine if not give me a message on here and ill try to help and thanks for watching my video.
you haven't told us how this s set up with virgin! what is the set up procedure??? Do you clone the MAC address or register? Is that netgear or virgin firmware? You're wrong about the security, it is only the Thomson TG585v7 that is wide open, as supplied by o2 and others.
@urbex2007 Sorry about that This video is over two years old and i never throught i would get this amouunt of people watching over 40k wow! thanks anyway i never cloned the mac address or anything like that with virgin it was just the case of running the setup cd that came with the netgear wireless modem, then when prompted connect the wireless modem to the virgin media black modem and set up your security afterwards as for the tg585v7 there are many other models also that are wide open.

@TheElements182 sorry for not replying sooneri guess you have it resloved by now the best way to deal is to clear any i.p addresses that your cache may have behind in windows.contact virgin media or your isp and ask them to enhance the speed gain on your cable line or to check with you dianostics, It may be a dns error or dns failur lookup sometimes happens with wireless networks

non wireless you simply plug it up to your wireless modem and choose wired connection and save the settings on the ps3 then play the online you want to play

no if you have bought this modem new then the netgear router will come with a cable for plugging into
simply run the set up cd that comes with the netgear router modem and follow the instructions, plug your virgin media or your service providers modem into the slot that called internet on the netgear router and use the other cable for setup to the netgear router to the computer until setup is complete then your free to go wireless after that,

okay what you do is if you have the disk to the router just run the setup,do not connect the modem to your service provider until it tells you too, then connect the ethernet wire to your virgin media or whoever your service provider modem to the internet port, then for set up connect the ether net to either 1.,2,3,4 for set up reasons once you have that set up you can disconnect and lose the ether net and go wireless, if you need any more help please see ask and thanks

yes i agree over the years ive had tascali, orange aol freeserve and many other networks broadband providers however none has given a great service such as my 50 mb connection to virgin sometime i have to admit because i have a network at home (4 computers 2 laptops and a macbook and game consoles) there not very helpfull but the speed is very fast, are you a xxl user?
no not really with the modem in the video i got it connected by cable so its not a biggy however most computers and macs come with wi fi and if your computer aint connected or have wireless enabled you can buy a dongle off ebay or somewere for less then a few cups of coffee at starbucks,

No sorry you need a wireless x box live dongle or wireless card the netgear router is just for computers and macs, however if u get a cheap dongle or wirelss x box wireless card then once the netgear router is set up on your computer you can set the nat port up and go on xbox live wireless...hope that helps?

Im on 50mb broadband now and ive had that problem a few times however all i did to reset it was a ping test which was whatever your o/s is (windows xp or vista or mac ect,) simply go to start and tyoe in cmd on the start menu a black box will appear and type ping (your i.p which is sometimes 192.168.100. then if you get 100% connection sucessfull then just type in your ipaddress in the browser like explorer or firefox
another thing you can do is type ipconfig/all on the cmd box i mentioned then type in ping 192.168.100.1 (thats a standard i.p for virgin however u better asking a tech support to be accurately right) also try pinging a website like ping bbc co uk and see if you get the results (100% sucessfull or loss) if you keep getting no dns found then just type your i.p addy in explorer that sometimes helps
type in explorer or firefox after the setup routerlogin and place your password and name ect, then click wireless settings then you can choose the channel u want to change too,
i work for virgin , just buy it from them is £40 or if your a new cust talking broadband from large upwards you get it free! and they will help you for anything you need or refer you to another dept if they cant

well yes in a nutshell because aoss is the wireless support on consoles such as playstation 3, unless of course you are planning to connect to your cable company with with a direct connection such as a wired connection.

no the ps3 picks up the wiresless connection if your having problems you can also connect if the ps3 is inthesame room as wired connection otherwise.i have never really had any problems with my ps3 connection and all i can say is check the router and use the assos button on the ps3 to find your wireless settings, failing thatcheck if you have run setup on a computer/laptop and choose the type of wireless settings(wep or tkip and write the wep key) then simply enter it manually, let me know more

I dont understand your question but i think you ment can you connect with nintendo ds using netgear router and the answer to that is yes i am not sure how you do it mind as i have never had a nintendo ds but i guess you find the wi fi settings and save the password wep key code or password and u should be good to go, remember to check if the game u intend to play is wii fi enabled,

how you got it setup at the min, is the braodband line connected to a set top box or to a black box from virgi media(like mine in video) if its like the box in the video simply use the netgear or setup cd on the computer your using and let it find your connection. (dont use wireless to set up cd installation its got to be the computer to the virgin box) when netger has finished taken the things it needs from cd an asks you to connect the router connect it tothe black box
it does not have a usb port as far as i know but the new version may have i am not sure also if you go to buy this off virgin for your connection they charge 60.00 pounds but that includes support which is not really worth it
a cable is a type of internet connection such as virgin media and a modem is what your supplier like mine(virgin media in u.k) supply and you connected them both to get online

I have got mine working at same time on wii and ps3 and there fine to use, the cd setup is very weasy and when i have played games like gears of wars and farcry and stuff like that i have had no issues, just make sure you get the full g nax one so you can have full voip for your ps3,
only bad fault i have had is when i was on 2mb on virgin media but since im over 16mb there not much to say now the router is amazing for gaming or multi applications going online at once,

It does not really matter on the brand all routers do the job just make sure you get a good distence and signal to the router. i mention netgear in my videos but belkin and speedtouch are good routers also.

@cheetahfajita contact your isp it sounds like a dns timed error contact virgin media and ask then to increase there signal to your network.
check also if your router is near any metal stone walls or cordless fones that interfeers with the signal

The cd is telling me I need an ethernet adapter? Why? More money to spend! Thought it was going to be straightforward. Please help, getting very frustrated!

@nicoleebabyx you may need extra equipment if your computer does not have a wireless port such as windows pentuim 3 achine which is rare because most have them now however if you need a ethernet there only 3.00 or so from ebay it is stright forward as you may have one if you private message me if your still stuck then ill will try my best to help u and get you sorted out

no if you have bought this modem new then the netgear router will come with a cable for plugging into
simply run the set up cd that comes with the netgear router modem and follow the instructions, plug your virgin media or your service providers modem into the slot that called internet on the netgear router and use the other cable for setup to the netgear router to the computer until setup is complete then your free to go wireless after that,

okay is there a way someone can explain how to install and set up a netgear router with out the disc it came with. i lost mine. but i know theres a way i just cant figure it out iv went to there website and still cant do it any help?

good comment, ths signal is great i live in a 3 bedroom house and ive never had any issues when i used to use this modem(i have upgraded to the virgin media 50meg digitial service now so i use a new modem, but i have never had any problems, when i have used the netgear modem

okay what you do is if you have the disk to the router just run the setup,do not connect the modem to your service provider until it tells you too, then connect the ethernet wire to your virgin media or whoever your service provider modem to the internet port, then for set up connect the ether net to either 1.,2,3,4 for set up reasons once you have that set up you can disconnect and lose the ether net and go wireless, if you need any more help please see ask and thanks

Jeez, I know NOTHING about this internet stuff. I want to get a router, but I'm not sure which type of internet I have. Basically theres this larger phone like socket in my wall, and the wire is stretched across the room (around the wall) and inserted into a socket like, before. The Ethernet cable in this socket is in some weirdly shaped white thing in my wall o_O

okay i think if you can get a picture over to me of the white box bit at andrew dot walker at hotmail co uk i can tell you stright away what connection you have and could advise you on what bests and how to get connected very quickly i too have a white box on wall and a large white cord going around my room and that virgin media by the way. so it sounds like cable modem the best way to find out is go to windows explorer type in 192.168.100.1 and if a virgin media website appears then your cable

get the whole bundle. tv, call and internet. i had bt then switched to o2. i then saw the virgin adverts and i brought the whole virgin pachage. its sooo fast. u wont be dispointed. i recomended it to any1.

yes i agree over the years ive had tascali, orange aol freeserve and many other networks broadband providers however none has given a great service such as my 50 mb connection to virgin sometime i have to admit because i have a network at home (4 computers 2 laptops and a macbook and game consoles) there not very helpfull but the speed is very fast, are you a xxl user?

no not really with the modem in the video i got it connected by cable so its not a biggy however most computers and macs come with wi fi and if your computer aint connected or have wireless enabled you can buy a dongle off ebay or somewere for less then a few cups of coffee at starbucks,

No sorry you need a wireless x box live dongle or wireless card the netgear router is just for computers and macs, however if u get a cheap dongle or wirelss x box wireless card then once the netgear router is set up on your computer you can set the nat port up and go on xbox live wireless...hope that helps?

Im on 50mb broadband now and ive had that problem a few times however all i did to reset it was a ping test which was whatever your o/s is (windows xp or vista or mac ect,) simply go to start and tyoe in cmd on the start menu a black box will appear and type ping (your i.p which is sometimes 192.168.100. then if you get 100% connection sucessfull then just type in your ipaddress in the browser like explorer or firefox

another thing you can do is type ipconfig/all on the cmd box i mentioned then type in ping 192.168.100.1 (thats a standard i.p for virgin however u better asking a tech support to be accurately right) also try pinging a website like ping bbc co uk and see if you get the results (100% sucessfull or loss) if you keep getting no dns found then just type your i.p addy in explorer that sometimes helps

type in explorer or firefox after the setup routerlogin and place your password and name ect, then click wireless settings then you can choose the channel u want to change too,

check if your ethernet cables are working properly you may have dogey cables
try typing in a i.p test by typing in a i.p like 192.168.100.2 in windows explorer sometime if you have connection a virgin page will appear

well yes in a nutshell because aoss is the wireless support on consoles such as playstation 3, unless of course you are planning to connect to your cable company with with a direct connection such as a wired connection.

i have one of these routers but i think it doent get wireless....does the ps3 work as a router because when i search for connections on my psp a ps3 connection shows up on my psp and my ps3 is off with the ethernet cable connected

no the ps3 picks up the wiresless connection if your having problems you can also connect if the ps3 is inthesame room as wired connection otherwise.i have never really had any problems with my ps3 connection and all i can say is check the router and use the assos button on the ps3 to find your wireless settings, failing thatcheck if you have run setup on a computer/laptop and choose the type of wireless settings(wep or tkip and write the wep key) then simply enter it manually, let me know more

I dont understand your question but i think you ment can you connect with nintendo ds using netgear router and the answer to that is yes i am not sure how you do it mind as i have never had a nintendo ds but i guess you find the wi fi settings and save the password wep key code or password and u should be good to go, remember to check if the game u intend to play is wii fi enabled,

how you got it setup at the min, is the braodband line connected to a set top box or to a black box from virgi media(like mine in video) if its like the box in the video simply use the netgear or setup cd on the computer your using and let it find your connection. (dont use wireless to set up cd installation its got to be the computer to the virgin box) when netger has finished taken the things it needs from cd an asks you to connect the router connect it tothe black box

it does not have a usb port as far as i know but the new version may have i am not sure also if you go to buy this off virgin for your connection they charge 60.00 pounds but that includes support which is not really worth it

a cable is a type of internet connection such as virgin media and a modem is what your supplier like mine(virgin media in u.k) supply and you connected them both to get online

I have got mine working at same time on wii and ps3 and there fine to use, the cd setup is very weasy and when i have played games like gears of wars and farcry and stuff like that i have had no issues, just make sure you get the full g nax one so you can have full voip for your ps3,
only bad fault i have had is when i was on 2mb on virgin media but since im over 16mb there not much to say now the router is amazing for gaming or multi applications going online at once,

choose the setting u want on your router (wep aes tkip ect) go and set up your connection via the wii on enabling wiiconnect and wiishops ect. accept the agreement then in wii connect you can find your connection an enter the details (code or password u choose) purchase opera browser for wii for download. then your away and can surf the net but no msn or chatsites or jAVASCRIPT work you tube is fine and meebo and ebay ect. basic sites

i do not know what best buy is but a router is just a router man it connects (hopefully)tothe internet and lets things like wi fi fones laptops computers and ps3 an wii ect get online i have been studying computers and networks/hardware for a while and there no difference in routers apart from ages ago when they had voip issues which are fixed in the modern routers, g wireless g max just mean the range of the router (54mbps) to point connections, nothing to do with houses or apartments,

Go and buy the wii broswer opera
then setup wii connect 24 and wii connect
accept the terms and conditions
search for the connection u want to use then save the settings enter the wep key or passcode. save and test connection if sucessfull then u will be able to get online

It does not really matter on the brand all routers do the job just make sure you get a good distence and signal to the router. i mention netgear in my videos but belkin and speedtouch are good routers also.
