  • doh, it's very similar

  • A 1046 les exploto el timpano de tanto escuchar a Justin.

  • 1:02 OMG satriani had HAIR!!!!

  • coldplay bast more !!

  • This is a simple gift to my favorite, magnificent, merciful Guitarist Joe Satriani :)

  • Coldplay never said "Lets copy this Satch song, because we need a hit because millions of people don't already love us." No way.

  • I know the melody very well, but i don't know the lyrics of Viva la Vida :)

  • wow wow wow----my god

  • yeah coldplay stole this song. was joe satriani also the mastermind behind velcro?

  • @billboese01 Kill yourself.

  • are you all crazy???

coldplay are much better than satriani...

you just know nothing from music

    you are all fucking assholes

go listen to some quality music

    just kidding

  • Coldplay kicks the shit out of this piece of shit train wreck of a tune.

  • I don't think Coldplay intentionally copied it.

  • coldplay is AMAZING their version is better

  • viva la vida es otra cosa MIGLIOREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

  • Bald and sunglasses-hat

  • kralio a genialidade e sencibilidade de joe satriani

  • whats wrong with you all shutup and enjoy the bliss

  • Bitch please. It's obvious coldplay stole the melody , i mean are you effin' deaf? I'm saying this as experienced musician

To all arseholes who are saying "it's just 4-5 notes" : GUESS WHAT that "4-5 notes" are WHOLE viva la vida.

    fuck coldplay.

  • @kolewski joe already took them to court and won the case, they stole it and joe sued

  • @tim101395 that's not true, he won nothing and hat to excuse and admit that this wasn't stolen!

  • @kolewski yes. and actually, it's not 4-5 notes. the whole chord progression is the same, the chorus is completely the same aswell.

  • @kolewski Not to mention they stole the chord sequence from the chorus, using chord substitution to replace the first chord. The only real difference between the two songs is the key.

  • the best guitar player ever

  • love it

  • I don't give a damn about Cold blahblah. This stuff is simply awesome...

  • i dont see what this has to to with coldplay, i like both of these songs, but this song has no words, and i only heard a slight resemblance at one point. also, im guessing this song is about flying, and coldplay's song is about Napoleonic rule. if coldplay did rip off of this song, they chose a good one to rip off of atleast

  • Ok kids, I'm a fan of Coldplay, got a poster in my room. However, an even bigger poster of Joe Satriani. End of Story, now scroll up and fuckin listen.

  • @LandonRemixes

Tonedeaf much? Pick up an actual instrument, learn the concept of notes and find out how coldplay are total song thiefs.

  • @geitepung If you actually bought Coldplay's albums, you'd see that they give credit when they use demos of other songs, including this one. And they aren't even the same instruments that are used.

  • @LandonRemixes

Your arguments are falling very short there.

Thanking people on your albums is no ecuse for stealing hooks, and it doesn't matter if they steal it through a different instrument.

Not only is the melody the same, but even the chord progression and tempo is identical if that wasn't enough. Don't be one of those annoying blood fans who live in constant deniial of things. Fact is, whether intentional or not, that riff is totally stolen and that's why they got sued.

  • fuck cold play thumbs up if you think they are pussies

  • This is my cover for this song! The original one!! /watch?v=kCzRCImyENE

    Hope you like it!

  • i dont see how viva la vida is similar to this.

  • @bazerrem You never take a settlement if you are going to lose, you never offer one if you are going to win. If Coldplay had a strong case against Joe sueing they wouldn't have offered a settlement.

  • @TZstarcraft Well listen, I think they had a strong enough reason. The songs are completely different bar a couple of notes. They were heavily touring at the time, so a court case wouldn't have helped them out at all.

  • El ultmo viernes

  • What this highlights is I'd say what also sets Satch apart from the other "shredders", that is he's not only an exellent guitarist but also a fine songwritter who's come up with some fantastic melodies in his career.

  • Both songs are horribly mediocre (for their own reasons.) I can understand how one might come to believe that Coldplay had taken elements from Satriani's piece...but ultimately, they're entirely different songs. "Viva la Vida" is more simplistic whereas "If I Could Fly" relies more on complex soloing/riffs. The chord basis is more prevalent in Viva la Vida. There exists lyrical content in "Viva la Vida," unlike in "If I Could Fly."

  • The thing is, most modern music relies on the same twelve tones, and with those tones exist logical rules of orientation. Some stuff is bound to sound similar, yet is inherently unique.

  • On 4 December 2008, Joe Satriani filed a copyright infringement suit against Coldplay in the United States District Court for the Central District of California. Satriani's suit asserts that the Coldplay song "Viva la Vida" includes "substantial original portions" of the Satriani song "If I Could Fly" from his 2004 album, Is There Love in Space?. The band denied the allegation. An unspecified settlement was ultimately reached between the parties.

  • Coldplay didn't 'steal' shit from this song. The melodies are different. And it could be argued that Joe Satriani stole parts of a song from Cat Stevens from the 70's. Even if the chorus was the same, it's only a few bars - the rest of Viva is TOTALLY different. Coldplay won this case for a reason, so fuck off you bunch of sour twats.

  • @bazerrem They didn't win the case, the settled out of court, that is not "Winning" the case. Go check the Wiki page about it. Settling like they did out of court implies that they knew they were going to lose so to save face they paid him out.

  • @TZstarcraft It must have been a weak case then if Joe didn't keep it in court and accepted some money.

  • Comment removed

  • @bazerrem coldplay didnt win. the case was thrown out after they paid satch for rights

  • @MrTheCircle Where did you see that they paid him for the song rights?

  • @bazerrem my brother worked for a lawyer in the past and he looked up all of the legal procedures taken. in the comments under why the case was dropped it explained the compensation.

  • I have an idea. How about everyone fucks off about song stealing, and we enjoy both songs? Or even just this one. Either way, shut the hell up.

  • Legendary? lol.....I dont think so. Decent guitarist, yeah. Legend? lol...umm, no. Not even close. SRV is legendary. EVH is legendary.

  • fuck coldplay ...this is so much better ! :P

  • How can Satch not win a grammy when a band can win one by ripping of one of his songs. WTF!!! Rock on Joe.

  • Wow this song actually made my ears bleed it was so bad, VIVA LA COLD PLAY!!!

  • Ffs.... Yes, cold play stole it lied and cheated satriani... but the flip side is there still shit, while satriani rules :)

  • FYA, that's not Viva La Vida at all. It some old good Rock instrumental (sounds pretty good), but please, no comparison with Coldplay...

  • @neolloyd

    It's not old, it's 2004.

And Coldplay took the chords from it and vocals are the same with the chorus. Do your research before posting anything stupid. Thanks!

  • @TheHiddenWeasel Chords belong to nobody, and in most of the songs that we hear today, they're just the same (sometimes transposed to sound differently) . About the vocals, they're quite similar, that's okay, but when you have same chords, same tonality, so similar melody. If Coldplay recognizes that they steal it from here, my apologies.

  • jesus, the last time i came here to hear this song was like 3 years ago and people still talking about Coldplay stealing this song, that case is way long solved, they did NOT stole this song, Joe satrani himself said it, look up for the interview and shut up, both songs are eargasmic

  • Woaah, whats with all the dislikes :O

  • NO FUCKING SIMILAR TO VIVA LA VIDA D:

stop saying bullshit pls. Like them both btw

  • I saw him along with Sammy Hagar, Michael Anothy and Kenny Aronoff, holy shit this guy can PA-LAY!! Is it me or does he (kiiiinda) look a little alien like with a bald head and sunglasses?

  • This isn't even similar to viva la vida by Coldplay... It's like 4-5 notes i a row thats the same, then it's totally diffrent!

  • i'd like to say one thing to all coldplay fanboys .... FUCK COLDPLAY

  • @Korph88 haha i'm a coldplay fanboy and just wanna say i admire ur complete dickhead personality

  • @jamie9421 me too

  • Search: Cat Stevens Foreigner Suite

  • i love joe satriani his music has made a huge impact on my life this is a awesome song

  • This video has such views because of Coldplay.

  • Id be so happy if coldplay stole from me because i could sue them and be rich

  • This song is better than that song! Is red better than blue! This is a beautiful melody soulfully played. If you don't like it, it changes nothing you subatomic pinheads.

  • @geoguitaros Subatomic pinhead...I like it! I think I'll start insulting my sassy friends with it ^^

  • great song but viva la vida was based on the smame scale

  • @jamie9421

    cause they steal

  • how the shit cares if copy or not.

You can write a song similar to one of the beatles without knowing, and you would NEVER have succes in the same way,so it is not only the music that make stars it all the magic and mystic behind it!

  • Para mí no es una copia. Se puede parecer algo, pero muy poco.

  • Fantastic song. Satriani changed my world.

  • This is all kinds of good

  • if coldplay stole this song from little joey, then all 12 bar blues guitarists have been stealing stuff from each other since blues once started. And please, save me all that bullshit that joe is a better guitarist then coldplays etc etc. it has nothing to do with it. so, whats next? will painters sue each other for using the same colours or the same kind of brush?? it could be possible that joe stole from cat stevens song called foreigner suite from 1973 and giovanni battista pergolesi

  • Increible como suena!!!!!

  • I respected coldplay until they copied Satch. Satriani is my idol, and nobody will ever compare.. he's influenced my guitar playing more than anybody else.

  • @silVa219230 Only two parts sound somewhat similiar, but everything else doesnt sound the same as "Viva La Vida" and "If I Could Fly". Plus I dont think you relieze this, but alot of songs out thier sound somewhat similair to other songs.

  • @silVa219230 you suck... try to listen.. one note in the whole god damn song is like from the viva la vida song. (which is a frillion wajillion bazillion times better than this song, my opinion)

    so stop complaining

  • Cold Play stolen Joe Satriani, this song is from 2004, "viva la vida" is from 2009.

  • Very nice!!!! Se eu pudesse voar!!

  • Breakdown: This starts with beginning melodic guitar-ness which, if stretched, could be said to be copied, and background melodic guitar-ness that could also be stretched similarly. This is followed by a number of awesome guitar solos. (These bear no resemblance to Viva La Vida.)

I think the whole sueing thing is a little out there.

That being said: I like Satriani, especially for his solos. I like Coldplay, especially for their attitude and lyrical quality. So I will listen to both! :-)

  • @badgervid The problem, and what triggered the lawsuit ( I believe ) is that Chris Martin ( lead vocals of Coldplay ) told a journalist in an interview that he was a big fan of Satriani. Since he was a fan of Joe, it was obvious he knew about this very song! Whether or not he did it knowingly or not will never be known but the fact that the band decided to pay Satriani so that the lawsuit could end kinda proves that if they would've went to court, their reputation would have taken a blow.

  • @MyHeadAsplodes your sources

  • I must say that Viva la Vida is waaaaay better than this, and this "Coldplay copied Satriani" shit is three years old.... Please people, get a life or something.

  • @TheKallub no dipshit, Viva la Vida is not 'waaaay better'. You must have shit in your ears.

  • @D125925 different people different taste

  • @D125925 Lol dude, everyone has different musictaste. Deal with it.

  • @D125925 Everybody has different tastes in music, ya know.

  • @D125925 it's called an "opinion". whoah, right?

  • I like this song better than viva la Vida!!

  • and there is a viva la vida part? please help me with it ... but by the way ... AWESOME SONG!

  • wow the chorus really does tell it all... but man since Bach stuff has been copied right? even before him really... always loved how Oasis' manager called coldplay a bunch of bed wetters! to me they copy U2 more than anyone.... listen to The Unforgettable Fire to basically hear their entire career years before it began. But you know Chris Martin is bangin' Paltrow and I am just a guy typing on you tube...

  • FUCK coldplay!!!

  • Viva la vida ??? Coldplay

  • 1.Search: "Extramaterial: Är Viva La Vida ett plagiat?", on Google (it means: "Special Features: Is Viva La Vida a plagiarism?)

    2. Click on the first link.

    3.Enjoy

  • WOW both Viva La Vida AND this are AWESOME :D

  • Why would coldplay be kinda pricks and rip off such an awesome song :/ i still love coldplay though :)

  • @kierkyubi Joe actually ripped off this melody from Cat Steven's Foreigner Suite, Hearts by Marty Balin and Round & Round by New Order.

  • It is depressing that the majority of people don't know who guitar greats like Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Eric Johnson, Neil Zaza, Yngwie Malmsteen, Paul Gilbert, Stevie Ray Vaughan, etc are.

They are really becoming a dying and unrecognized breed.

  • 90,745,183 views against 4,726,148 views...no offense but, Coldplay wins.

  • @BILLluvzVAMPIRES

ur a dumb nigger go kill urself

  • @BILLluvzVAMPIRES by that statement lady gaga is the greatest artist ever your logic baffes me

  • Coldplay dont need to cheat melodies to make great music.

  • @SeeMeDancingLOL But they did ....

  • coldplay still been much better them this

  • @Victacxd They are better at creating simplistic tunes for the general, less musically educated, public, yes.

  • @ZachZachsq YOU ARE RIGHT

  • Why would coldplay listen to this

  • @HerrLilleman Because Joe Satriani has studied music his entire live. He knows the theory, he knows how to play and he knows what sounds good. He is an inspiration to any musician. Coldplay realises their audience enjoys more simplistic music so they ripped of the chorus of this song and simpy looped that tune throughout their whole song; viva la vida.

  • How many of you even knows the result for this particular law suit against Coldplay? I just say Joe didn't won....

  • @SandKnowHow joe actually won. and he donated the settlement money to a charity.

  • @SandKnowHow Joe won the lawsuit. An unknown sum was paid by Coldplay to Satriani which he donated to charity. The money would have been paid for the plagiarism, the rights for Coldplay continue playing the song as if their own and perhaps some was paid for Joe to keep this away from the media.

  • Don't both songs sound like Marty Balin's 'Hearts

  • Super ! Fantastic !!!

  • FUCK ALL YOU COLDPLAY HATERS. BOTH SATRIANI AND COLDPLAY RULE SO STFU AND ENJOY THE MUSIC.

  • It is stupid to say that this music coldplay plagiarism, it is more normal than it sounds the melody

  • Joe Satriani's pubic hair has more talent than all the coldplay members combined........

  • @BigTrollShaman you are so right!

  • Its weird how this song sounds the same as coldplay but coldplay made it give a completely different vibe. Not saying either is better, just saying when im done listening to both i feel differently. I'm glad satriani won the case though.

  • @superabsorbentTP you are misinformed my friend, the courts basically raped coldplay and they had to pay Satriani off

  • FUCK COLDPLAY!

  • @KingHenrikLundqvist FUCK YOUR LIFE

  • @SeeMeDancingLOL Fuck you, I just happened to take a look at your channel, You like Big Time Rush and Coldplay, what are you? A faggot? Get the fuck out of here and your shitty music.

  • @KingHenrikLundqvist Realmente patético, tío. What did you find in my channel, eh? Nothing, lol. I could say that Im just a person

  • they are really similar (this and viva la vida), but I mean its whatever, people steal music all the time and the thing about Coldplay's is its saturated with more so the same chord progression can appeal to a wider variety of people.

  • I NEED A VOCALIST!!

  • coldplay

  • Coldplay can suck dick for stealing this music, majority of people saying they didn't do it don't know shit about music theory and don't seem to understand the blatant theft. Satch FTW.

  • @guitarmageddonhax

It has been proven in court that the didn´t steal the song,

  • @superabsorbentTP nope you are wrong !! they settled for money so it would not evolve into a big press issue

  • @guitarmageddonhax they dont know shit about music, that's why they listen to Coldplay lol

  • Both Viva La Vida and this song are amazing. I admit it is a BIT similar, but I really don't think its similar enough for an argument or especially a LAWSUIT. Both groups and songs are amazing. Lets leave it at that.

  • @dramaticpickles The repeated tune throughout the entire Coldplay song is the exact chorus of this song...

  • @ZachZachsq: Its not the exact chorus.

  • @SeeMeDancingLOL do you even know what a chorus is ? lol now see me dancing on your stupid comments!

  • @johnshredder1 Coldplay surely was dancing in your stupid comments before.

  • @SeeMeDancingLOL OF COURSE THEY WERE BECAUSE EVEN MY COMMENTS ARE LOT MORE MUSICAL AND EVEN DANCE ABLE THAN THEIR NOISE FOR RETARDS ;) THANKS FOR THE WORSHIP.

  • @johnshredder1 I think thats wonderful

  • @dramaticpickles its an exact copy ! i am a musician and composer they just modulated the 4th into a related chord!

  • also joe satriani wasnt getting the attention and publicity he was so desperate for, so he tried to steal coldplay's, what a prick

  • @JackCAFC you should know, this songs is YEARS older than coldplay, so , what you are saying is just a stupid thing someone who does not know his facts, or a fanboy, would say

  • @JackCAFC what are you saying?? do you think that one of the most important guitar player in the world tried to steal coldplay???

  • excuse me... you CAN copyright chords, the chord progression is exactly the same as viva la vida.and also enough notes have been copied in the viva la vida verse from satches main guitar melody.( 'I used to rule the world'.....), except satch plays it an octave higher. Listen to 'I want a new drug' by huey lewis and 'Ghostbusters' by Ray parker JR. This also is ludicrus by Ray parker!

  • @biteyerlegsnorman No you can't if you copyright chords then music would of already been done for. Alot and I mean ALOT of the chords in songs these days are the same so if chords were copyrighted then like I said, no more new music could come out.

  • Coldplay clearly didn't copy this. Satriani is clearly jealous of their huge success, popularity and talent.

  • @JackCAFC I agree.

  • @JackCAFC joe satriani has been around way longer as well as this song has been around long before coldplay

  • @Roguestandards so? doesnt make a difference that hes a total nobody compared to coldplay

  • @JackCAFC are you retarded or just stupid??? joe satriani is one of the best guitar players in the world! you don't listen to him on the radio, so what??? he's so much better than coldplay! if you don't understand nothing about music, your fault! but don't call nobody to this man!

  • @JackCAFC umm no joe makes more money and is far more known then coldplay and has been since the 80s and probably earlier just because you havent heard of him before doesnt mean you have to be a troll ^_^ he has more skill in his left hand then coldplay does in there entire band

  • @JackCAFC so making cheesy pop rock for teenagers makes you somebody these days?

  • @JackCAFC

    a nobody?

Typical of a person that listens to mainstream music

  • @JackCAFC this came out before viva la vida haah

  • Fuck coldplay, I'm here for Dr. satchafunkis.

  • Ugghh This song is awesome but I don't get how its similar to Viva La Vida by Coldplay!!!!! The only similarity (the ONLY one), is the chords in the chorus. AND YOU CAN'T COPYRIGHT CHORDS!!!!! If you could copyright chords then there wouldn't be anymore music because so many bands and artists use the same chords. So once again, this song is amazing, but I don't get why Joe tried to sue Coldplay :-\ at all!

  • @dramaticpickles

It's not JUST the chords it's the order, the time period, the strum, the length of the song. The entire music in Viva La Vida is nearly a dead ringer for this song, the only difference is 1 chord change and having lyrics. It is OBVIOUS that Cold Play stole the song, it's near impossible to right a song the exact same as another without having heard it before.

  • @DecreeB I really don't get it. First of all, Viva La Vida is 4 minutes and this is 6 1/2 minutes. So, its not the same length. And I DON'T know what you mean by "the strum". The tempo in each song is different.....and that leaves you with nothing else to say. Once again YOU CAN'T COPYRIGHT CHORDS. I can't believe this. Take a look at every single song from the 50s. They were all almost IDENTICALand no one sued eachother. And these songs aren't too similar at all and you're saying its identical!

  • @DecreeB And I'm not taking anyone's side they are both awesome songs and both bands deserve credit. Maybe Joe was just mad that a song that was "similar" to one of his got to #1. Otherwise, I don't get your argument at all.

  • @dramaticpickles he sued them and He Won! and they settled for a sum of money, is ok to use the same chord...BUT NOT THE SAME CHORD PROGRESSION AND RHYTHM!!!

  • Oh jesus it's music there's only 12 notes folks melodies are bound to repeat. There's more important things to fret about. Pun intended.

  • @dougsusername they are not bound to repeat remember there's scales and that makes music infinite! and there's rhythm ! so think before you talk

  • You know people, it's entirely possible for two people to independently come up with the same idea for a melody. There are only so many ways notes can be arranged in a way that sounds good, so this was bound to happen at some point. It's not like the two melodies sound identical, they just sound similar.

  • c'mon guys this melody needed some lyrics...

  • @MattSoares42 nope. it didnt at all. Coldplay fucked it up

  • finest cover--/watch?v=VPYG_JnmO40&context=C3bd326dADOEgsToPDskJArEjzCrUSW7S5ZnUiJDbR

  • you do know that actually those notes that coldplay "stole" were from a latin american band called enanitos verdes?

  • I heard Coldplay did a shitty cover of this.

  • I actually don't know why all you haters are hatin' on Coldplay for this, it's so ridicules. It's just music, nothing else!
