Do you know what is Syndrome of Diogenes? Well, I need to stop doing that because I'm filling my house with these products. Please don't visit freesamplesource(.)com is my source of free material. You are advised!
You could also assign a weight to each trip, trip 1 being (5/9) 5 of the 9 hrs and trip 2 being (4/9) 4 of the 9 hrs. then multiply the 4mph by the weight of .56 (which is 5/9) and 5mph by the weight of .44 (which is 4/9), then sum the results of 2.24 + 2.20 = 4.44 ..thats just the way i did it and thought it was easier since i couldnt remember the distance formula...either way is good thou!
Mm, I stumbled across this video and I must say that I understand if people do not like math because they find it confusing, if they are thought in this way.
In my opinion this video doesn't help to understand the problem. It just shows you how to solve it by filling some sort of table.
For example: Units are completely omitted, formulas are just written down (whats with that triangle thing?) without showing how you get two of them from a single one.

But I have to say I am not a 7th grade math teacher, so my view on pedagogy might be wrong.
