  • This commercial is so old because slinkies are so out of date

  • I can't get through this as without thinking of Jay Adams...

  • NEW TOY:DILDO

  • JAY ADAMS!!! :P

  • just handling balls...Larry David style!

  • what the hell?! GREEN shag carpet?! XD

  • Slinky? Shag? What is this? "Austin Powers"? :-P

  • fuck, i cant get it out of my head

    fuck!

  • the song is a torture!!!

  • Look at that shag carpet. I remember that.

  • It's LOG, It's LOG, It's big, it's heavy, it's wood. It's LOG, It's LOG, it's better than bad, it's Good.

  • My slinky NEVER worked like the commercial showed it would! Just like that little tube of toxic, rubbery, multi colored bubble blowing crap that came with a little straw! Remember? U were supposed to be able to inflate a rubbery bubble out of the little ball of goop u got out of the tube BUT it never worked!

  • OOOOhhh. Lime green shag carpet.

  • they always used to kinks in them because they were made of metal

  • why do they have grass on their stairs?

  • They were great before they were made out of f--- plastic (F--- safety s---t)

I LOVE the shag carpet. Ahhh memories

  • LOVEY IT!

  • Slinkys are fucking fantastic!

  • Awww the 70s.. I remember this commercial as a kid.the decade with the green shaggy rug, I swear everyone had one back then.

  • It's LOG, It's LOG, It's big, It's heavy, It's wood... Ooops, wrong song :D

  • My slinky never would do anything fun : (

  • @rosd67 probably because it's plastic not metal

  • Check out that shag carpet, wow does that bring back memories.

  • Slinkys! For boys, girls and geeks. (:

  • And the basis for the LOG song for Ren and Stimpy was born.... and the world rejoiced.

  • LOL!!!!!!!!

  • I love slinkys. Today I realized how dumb it is (it's a spring). I still can't help but playing with it.

  • I love slinkeys, I just can't ever get them to work right.

  • The slinky is a nice toy, but I want the carpenting on the floor!

  • my stinking slinky never did go down the stairs. My sister had a copper one and did go down the stairs once and never again. I preferred my gold glittered yoyo...

  • The singer sounds hot.

  • a slinky a slinky a wonderful wonderful toy lol yup i remember this

  • See 1970s and 1980s television icons caught backstage on THE BOB HOPE SHOW! Writer with a Pentax snapped priceless candid photos of Bob Hope and his guests including Jack Lord (Hawaii Five-O), Mr. T (The A-Team), Barbara Eden (I Dream of Jeannie), Florence Henderson (The Brady Bunch), Don Rickles, George Burns, Lee Marvin, Henny Youngman and a host of others including presidents Ford and Reagan and astronaut Alan Shepard. See them all at: .bobhopeshowbackstage.weebly.com

  • Screw the slinky, I'm diggin' that groovy shag carpet!

  • @skynyrdmom That's what I noticed too. Of course, EVERY house in the 70s had a "shag rake" attachmenrt, or simply a regular rake that was ONLY used indoors.

  • omg shit just got real!

  • i can think of another thing that's "fun for a girl and a boy"

  • I would always seam to mangle up my slinkys with-in a week. Then they were useless.

  • I remember this one!!!

  • whaoa that green shag carpet, far fuckin out man!

  • lol my science teacher used to always sing this in 8th grade

  • ITS SLINKY ITS SLINKY! lol I love this commercial although the song will forever be in my head now XD

  • why is there grass as carpet?

  • what rolls down stairs, alone or in pairs, rolls over the neighbor's dog...

  • I had a few of them!!!

  • haha I have one lol

  • haha i remember this commercial, thought nothing of the green carpet cause almost everyone had one back then lol.

i think i had more fun stretching it out and hitting my lil sis with it

  • look at that green ass carpet!

  • I dont know i think its when he wrote a list about Rachel.

  • @71259mark ain't that the truth?

  • Some people are like Slinkys. They're not good for much, and you can't help but smile when you see them tumble down stairs.

  • @71259mark ... ah, yes, my last ex-BF before I met my husb.

  • @71259mark i dont tumble.....I FALL DOWN THE FUCKING STAIRS >:D

  • When Ross sings it in Friends XD

  • could never get that dumb thing to go down my stairs, haha.

  • i know u can get them, but here in England, there not so big!! :(

i suppose it's all Wii games, Playstations and eletrocate toys these days!!

  • Well, that's why God had man invent the internet. Bet you could buy one on Amazon or Walmart's websites.

  • probably could!!

  • Lewinsky Lewinsky she's fun for a horny old boy.

  • Your Joke called it would like to go back to the 90's

  • @habyss she's kinky- she's kinky - she's fun for a girl or a boy!

  • cool

  • I got mine in the 80s. And let me tell you. It got all twisted and tangled up. I do not know how they advertised this so well. Broken down piece of... BLEEP! BUT it was fun!

  • Slinky's were fun but I remember them getting all bent up and not working anymore :-(

  • wow, i would have been bored out of my mind if i was born back then, i think i would have litteraly died from boredom.

  • I remember the Slinky box was full of warnings: Caution: Not for use in moving vehicle.

Caution: Do not press against your face.

And the instructions for "How to play with the Slinky in your hands" had three or four steps.

  • I can think of other things that are fun for a girl and a boy!

    LOL

  • :O never say that slinkys rule

  • the song is better than the toy

  • love that they have cut it at 0:15 when the slinky goes down the satirs. probably it stopped as i always does haha

  • Yea, I bet theres like 30 clips in there....because it kept stopping

  • ya gotta love the carpet

  • reminds me of eddie murphy raw

  • i still love slinky!

  • BILLY MAYS HERE

  • lol imagine an ad like this on current tv.

  • lol, old commercials

  • Ironic how they never show you the Slinky's dark side... No matter though: You can see it in my short, "A Marvelous Thing", on my channel.

  • The copyright notice displayed during the commercial reads 1977 for the sake of exactness. Thanks for posting.

  • we were so amused by just one cheesie sping...

  • I remember this commercial

  • i had one till my brother streached it out so much it became useless

  • LORDS OF DOGTOWN

  • And we were happy playing with a spring??? LMAO

  • i kno wot u mean m8 i cant imagine why we would play with a spring but most of us hasLMAO.i wonder how many kids fell down the stairs trying to get a close look at it? LOL singing the song too "what walks down stairs and .." badoomdaboomboom ouch!LOL

  • Best Shag Carpeting ever!!

  • Best jingle ever!!

  • I just love that jingle! :)

  • LOL thats the song jim caery sings on ace ventura pet detective

    everybody loves a slinky

  • some of the slinky boxes still look like that now o_O..

  • Whoever the hell came up with this crap? Hahh It's just a spring.

  • you ARE angry

  • Dude, I'm laughing at the absurdity of how "it's a magical spring" when it's just a spring. I love those things. I'm just wondering who came up with the song.

  • ☻/

    /▌

/ \ This is Bob! Bob will soon take over youtube. Copy and paste to all vids

  • This is me! I am here to tell you that just like every other pathetic attempt to impress your other 12 year old friends with a cliche stick man named Bob, your intentions are fruitless!

  • lawl xD!

    BEST COmmercial ever =P!

    i actually liked the song

    XD!!!!

    =P!

  • who else is here because of Cherry Tree?

  • It was GREAT 2 see a 70's Slinky commercial, even though I didn't like it. I'm used 2 the 80's and 90's commrecials. Now,the 1960's Slinky commeecials are FANTASTIC. That song STUCK in my head.

  • omg,the kelley grren shag rug! lololol

  • OHHHHHHHHHH Thats What Eddie Murphy Was Talking About hahaha

  • This is the song that has been burned into my brain since the 70's. One of the catchiest jingles ever created.

I for one, welcome our slinky singing overlords.

  • Where's the pet detective when you need him?

  • slinky tastes gooooooooood in my belly juices

  • I had one or two of these when I was little, I'm 32 now. Never could get them to work ever :-( However! My hubby is getting off work now and I phoned him and asked if he could pick one up. I think he is :-) We have heaps of steps in our duplex, so I'm gonna see if it works now. Betting it won't as we've the big normal house steps and not those narrow example steps they've in the advert. Good times though!

  • that carpet has got to be the most hideous thing I've seen all day. oh, it's 17 after midnight...

  • wow... is that grass stairs? I loved to do that with my slinkies..(push them down the stairs)

  • its dildo, its dildo

  • ha ha!

  • It's LOG LOG it's big it's heavy it's wood

  • It's LOG LOG it's better than bad, it's good!

  • LOL I loved Ren and Stimpy. Funny cartoon.

Really what was so great about Slinky. The only thing it could do is go down the stairs and it didn't do that very well even. It was a boring stupid cheap toy.

  • RIP Betty James, the wife of the creator of Slinky, Richard James. She named it Slinky, came up with that jingle and first marketed it. She passed away in early December.

  • Didn't Slinky's and Silly Puddy originate from World War II surplus airplane parts?

  • According to Wikipedia, Slinky originated from work being done to create springs to stabilize sensitive instruments on Navy ships. An unofficial story that I heard (on "Car Talk") was that Slinkies were produced from coils of surplus piston ring metal for Jeeps.

Silly Putty was apparently derived from U.S. WWII-era attempts at creating a substitute for rubber (also from Wikipedia)...

  • i bet it is fun for a boy and a girl lmao

  • my physics teacher hates this song for some reason. XD

  • i remember having that exact one; metal. I got a toy pikachu stuck in it a week after i got it! xD

  • Man, how about that carpet??

  • They were fun but didn't last long. Once they get tangled it's over.

  • LOG is way more fun

  • Linkin logs, i used to have those!!!

  • I'ts LOG! It's LOG! It's big, it's heavy, it's wood! It's LOG! It's LOG! It's better than bad, it's good!

    LOG! From Blammo!

  • yes just bought one havn't had one in 25 years slinky's rule

  • "Some people are like slinkies; they aren't really useful for anything in life, but you get a good smile when you push them down the stairs"

    :D xD

    This advert is classic!

  • those damn things never worked for me when i was a kid >:C

  • i remember this commercial, and the catchy song, i had one wasnt one of my favorite toys.

  • I remember having slinkies when I was younger, and I'm not that old. I think ^^

They were fun to push down stairs.

  • Got love that shag bright green carpet!

  • ohh...that is gorgeous carpet..

always remembered that staircase shot...great nostalgia

  • wouldnt the carpet get tangled in the shag carpet?

  • Imagine that, back when commercials for children didn't involve yelling, blaring music or high powered graphics! And isn't this like the best selling toy of all time? This should say something to the ad execs today!

  • what rolls down stairs alone or in pairs, rolls over your neighbors dog. whats great for a snack and fits on your back its log log log! its log, log, its big, its heavy, its wood. its log, log, its better than bad its good! everyone wants a log, you're gonna love it log, come on and get you're log. everyone needs a log. wants a log, love it log.

  • Isn't amazing how easily we were entertained as kids back then.I cant imagine buying this for my kids now, they would be like "Uuuhhh you're kidding right?"

  • well dcv283, i'm 15 and I love slinkies. I am a geek though... so I guess that could be why.

  • Love it. Does anybody remember the "Digger the dog" commercial. I'd love to see that again.

Goes something like, "Digger the dog...goes with you walking, when you explore...doo-do-doo-doo."

    BWAHHHHHH.. Loved it too.

  • Oh I loved Digger the Dog! I don't ever remember seeing an advert for it though. It was just one of those toys that just showed up one day. Maybe I asked for it, maybe not, but I do remember the ears were nice to chew on and Digger was fun.

  • can you please approve my video response?

    thank you

  • it's slinky it's slinky play with it to much and your hands get stinky

  • O.O I am SERIOUSLY gunna have nightmares tonight! I get freaked out my 1970 and 1980 advertising 4 sum reason O.O

  • i have a metal one and it still doesnt work like the one in the comercials

  • Did you see that CARPET?!

  • <3 SLINKY! I hate the crappy plastic slinkys that we have today.. they suck.. the metal slinky is the one that made the cool sound!

  • Wow, they're making them out of plastic now? What an abomination. Metal all the way.

  • My slinky only went down one step, and I had to push it. These advertisers must be using camera tricks to show that it can go down three or more steps.

  • Nah it sometimes does that, it sometimes doesn't. I got mine to do the whole staircase XD ^^

  • You did, huh. Well, this 43 year old kid is gonna go back to the toy store and try it again.

  • well, i never had a slinky so i was a very deprived child. i always wanted one tho. As for that carpet, well, i'm so glad wooden flooring is in right now, lol. Seriously, i luv all these old clips, you are awesome for uploading them, thanx

  • They always worked fine for me, just like they did in the commericials. You have to be doing something wrong...even with such a simple toy.

    =(

  • Mine NEVER worked. Did ANYBODY'S Slinky ever really work like they showed on TV? Anyone?

  • Mine never did. I always seem to get a knot in the middle of every Slinky I've ever played with. And the plastic Slinkies had pretty colors, but they broke easily.

  • Dig that green shag carpet, man!

  • Bad flashback - we had living room carpet that exact same colour.

  • no offense, but thats a really nasty carpet

  • ick the carpet!

  • none taken. My mom wasn't too keen on it either. I think it "fell off the back of a truck" and my father was there to retrieve it.

    Merry Christmas.

  • .........I dont like this song it hurts my brain damn now its stuck in my head...

  • Aww....damn! That song's going to be in my head all day!

  • OMG slinkys.. where did they go, kept us entertained for hours -- i want one for xmas, childhood memories..

  • I used to sing that song all the time. Cool to see again.

  • It's Slinky it's slinky it's fun for everyone!it's slinky it's slinkey it's fun for girls and boys! LOL HILARIOUS! MY science teacher first told me bout this!

  • i have a plastic slinky jr. and it does not go down my stairs very well. but it does go down other things good.

  • The metal ones rocked. My younger brother's was lightweight plastic that petered out after 3 steps. ha ha! I had the dog too. The toys of the 70's were the best...and the commercials too!

  • Its FUn for girl and the boy!

    That rock!

  • wow cool viv,,, i had one when i was akid still have the same one and loved to play with it stilll it is a little rust on it now

  • It's slinky it's slinky ..yeah baby!

  • lol, Slinky's rock... they're definitely fun! :) ...

  • Hahaha ahh man... Why do things seem so much better back then?

  • Things were simpler then. Computers and technology suck.

These days it takes much more to keep kids entertained. If you tell a kid, "For fun it's a wonderful toy," that kid'll slap you upside the head and go back to his text message drug deal.

  • damn kingpin kids!

  • LMAO!
