Well, I was a kid when the BBC stopped the Magic Roundabout in, I think 1978. I'd have been 9 and I loved it! It went off air until 1982 or 83 when I went up to secondary school, by which time I'd been introduced to "herbal remedies"! Eric Thompson died and the Beeb repeated them and I'd get home from school and see them in a whole different light! Yes! I immediately thought that Dylan was stoned! It suddenly seemed obvious!
Yeah, it's hilarious. There is absolutely no doubt whatsoever that Eric Thompson was blatantly putting double entendres in throughout which is what I love about it. The Magic Roundabout used to be shown just before the BBC News at 6pm and there's one episode where Dougal says: "If we don't hurry up, we'll be part of the news headlines!"
I loved MR as a kid and I still love it as an adult because of Thompson's humour which was always working on at least 2 levels. Genius!
