  • Epic!

  • hehehe.....that was awesome. I think I remember this from when you posted it originally!

  • I love okra. You till much faster than I can push a mower. ;)

  • Hasn't been moving along quite like this for me. "/

  • Hey Blinkazoid, Praxxus55712 sent me your way to ask this okra question. Praxxus has a method of burying his tomato seedlings deep to create a better root system. He buries the seedling with more an more soil as they grow, so that the stem puts out more roots. Can you tell me if this method would work on okra as well? I've just started a batch of seedlings, and this is my first time growing okra. Thanks!

  • @RomeFell Hi RomeFell. Nope that doesn't work with okra. Actually I'm not sure if it works with anything other than tomatoes and potatoes.

  • kool video!

  • blink u said u keep the seed (okra)in the frezer the nigth before u plant them & soak it in warm water in the morning does this apply to all the seeds u are abuat to plant the next morning?

  • It only applies to okra seed. Okra seed has a very hard shell and it doing it this way helps split the outer covering of it so it can germinate easier.

  • @Blinkazoid adding a little bleach to the soaking water will germinate the seeds overnight.

  • what is the distance between its seeds ? do you mesure ? thanks take care but love to see u farming eggplants ? & do you sell ur okra ?

  • Yes, I do measure. I plant a group of 3 or 4 seeds and the groups are a foot apart. After it comes up and is several inches tall I thin it out to just one plant per foot. Some people go as much as a foot and a half apart. The night before I plant I like to put the seeds into the freezer and then just before planting I take them out of the freezer and put them in luke warm water. This causes the outer husk of the seed to split slightly which helps with germination.

  • hello !! if u dont mine what the name of that machine u using to cutivate the soil ? thanks take care !!

  • It's a Sears Craftsman rear tine rototiller. I'm not certain what horsepower it is at the moment. It's always done a really great job.

  • hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! Oh my lord I have not laughed like this in years! That is too funny!

  • If only things went that easily in real life!!!

  • lol

  • wow never before in my life i saw something born, grows, and gets eaten that fast. LOL. nice touch with the burp there

  • that was VERY entertaining lol

  • Awesome! You plant, harvest, cook and eat really fast! Love the BEE.

  • Thanks!!! Burp:)

  • lol

  • That was a great idea for a video. I love okra!

  • Thanks! I love it too. It's just about played out now though. As much as I love it I'm pretty tired of it right now though, LOL.

  • Haha, love the sound effects!

  • Thanks Frank!

  • Question: what's Okra

  • I enjoyed that! You never cease to entertain me (BURP...ooH I beg your pardon) :O) It's a sad time though, I see all my flowers ducking for cover. Pretty soon I'll go into hibernation, sigh. I need to move south, like the birds.

  • Thanks Dorotwhy! Yeah, I'm not looking forward to winter either:(

  • peace brother, HAHA!

  • Peace Jason!!!

  • Oh yeah! Can i get another plate of that? LOL

  • Absolutely!!! It's slowed down to where I've just started picking it every other day, but there's still quite a bit.

  • Okra winfrey?

  • She's gained weight lately. Apparently she's been eating too many frosted okra flakes:)

  • I really don't think this is funny... I don't eat that much frosted Okra flakes, never over a bowl full. (at a time)

  • I don't think that's funny

  • Funny or not, I make these jokes and cannot stop! ;D

  • Okra-holama. Pan Handle?

  • *Puts all the okra in a plate and then puts a bounty towel over it and shouts the magical "okra kadroka" incantation* The okra magically disappears from the plate. What the heck is this strange bulge in my tummy now!, LOL.

  • mmmmmmmm

    i am hungry

some nice sped up BLinkie action there---

    sweet!

  • Thanks Tom!

  • That rototilling speed leads me to believe you were in that catnip again...

  • Hey, Carly, Suzy & Babs shouldn't be the only ones to have all the fun! AAAAChooo!!! Whoops, maybe I'm allergic:)

  • You have got to be one of the most efficient gardeners I have ever seen. LOL

  • I must have slept the rest of the summer or something because it's about over and I don't seem to have accomplished much of anything else other than gardening, LOL.

  • hahaha Blink to think the actual 'making' of this was MONTHS! I'm okra-whelmed!

  • Thanks Lesley! The okratic oath prevents me from saying exactly how long this took, LOL.

  • LMAO!

    Awesome.

    :-D

  • Thanks Curt!!! After you get your degree, go forth and prosper, Burrrp!

  • hehehe, that was great:)

  • Thanks Debbie!

  • i cant believe you remembered that im from australia =P anywho, its early spring here, any tips for the okras?

also, a quick tip, your cucumbers should be given something to climb up

  • Mainly just hope for hot weather! I actually have given my cucumbers something to climb in the past. It just seems to be more trouble than it's worth around here because they don't rot when on the ground and I hardly ever have any slugs to eat them like a lot of people seem to. They do grow a little straighter when you let them climb somehting.

  • Hee hee hee do it again ...!! No wait I'll press that diamond shaped thingy again....never mind. Amusing Vid Blink.

  • Thanks Vesput!!!

  • oh that was FUN!

  • Thanks Charlie! I had more fun than usual editing this one together:)

  • That was very good, Blink! I love okra. I don't care for Oprah, but I love okra. :)

  • Thanks PB! I like em both, LOL. I'll bet Oprah loves okra too:)

  • 36 seconds is very impressive. you need to take this to the guiness records!

  • Thanks Rory! OK, but I hear they're sticklers for not wanting people to edit the video evidence of their accomplishments, LOL.

  • Wow, that was great! I've never eaten okra without the breading. Should I try it that way? I'm sure it's healthier. Great to see you!!! ((HUGS))

  • Thanks Lisa! Sure, take a look at my okra cooking vid and give it a try. It's definately much better for you without all the extra breading and grease! ((HUGS))

  • lol 5*,love and respect scotty and libby:0)

  • Thanks Scotty and Libby!!!

  • ROFLOL! Wouldn't it be nice if you could grow it in the same time it takes to eat it. You crack me up. :D

  • Thanks Liz!!! Wouldn't that be wonderful!

  • Robert you're a scream I've missed your wonderful way with images and sounds. LOL, stylish and informative you star! Cheers, Lesley

  • Thanks Lesley!!! I've been pretty busy with my gardening this summer and haven't been putting out too many of my more creative vids. Hopefully I'll get back in the swing of things!

  • Bravo!! Wonderfully executed! Thanks, Grams

  • Thanks Grams!!!

  • We need your skills on Pappy's island!!!

  • I can see where they'd come in handy, LOL. On the other hand Pappy is looking a bit porky on that island already. I'm not sure if he needs nearly instant food to be available!

  • He definitely needs help!!! I thought he Okra, being the magical vegetable that it is, could do the trick!

  • Brings to mind the 60 second Hamlet.. or was that omelette?

  • And then there's the song "60 Minute Man". But that's something else entirely:)

  • Quality ★★★★★

  • Thanks Evil!!!

  • Wow...super vlog!!!

  • Thanks Anne! Less talking and more eating has always appealed to me, LOL.

  • Boy, that stuff grows really quick doesn't it? :)

  • Indeed it does Andy, LOL.

  • Ha ha ha ha ha.. this should be the standard, to which all other garden videos should conform! Excellent.. :)

  • Thanks Tuberglue!!! I love it when I have a concept for a little short video:)

  • Love this! Great video :)

  • Thanks Nicole!!!

  • hey blink, my okra just poked up today, they took 3 days to sprout, amazing eh?

  • Wow, that's pretty fast sprouting! I was a little worried about it being so late in the year till I remembered you're Australian, so I guess you're early in the growing season.

  • Well Done!

  • Thanks foundonline!!!

  • Funniest video about Okra I've ever seen! I just had to watch it 4 times.

  • Thanks Drew!!! Well there's 2 minutes and 24 seconds of your life you'll never get back, LOL.

  • That's OK, as long as I was highly amused. All my laughing gave me a few added minutes to my life, if its true that laughter adds to your time on the planet.

  • That there's instant okra he he he

  • If only there were such a thing, LOL.

  • Yummy :+)

  • Burpppp!!!

  • Gosh! A lot of planning and thinking had to go into this video. I think it was a great idea, and you made me hungry for some of my momma's fried "okry".

  • Thanks Lemonette! I already had about 3 of the clips from previous videos, so I figured why not film a few more to go with them:)

  • Now that's impressive! Definitely not a crop I can grow...

  • Thanks Maureen! It's like a bunch of small trees. I'll have to cut it down with a chainsaw at the end of the season, LOL.

  • What, no flush at the end?

  • I thought about it but I thought a burp and a flush might be overkill, LOL.

  • hehe...GREAT stuff! YUM!

  • Thanks Mic!

  • Wow 167 pounds of okra and still going strong now that is a bumper crop. I would love some but the only problem is I would want you to fry them up for me to......lol

  • I love the stuff, but I think I'll give frying up a batch a rest for a day or two. I've got 35 packs in the freezer which I had to first fry. Whew!

  • speed growing! The future of food. LOL

  • If only everything were so simple, LOL.

  • Very good! So how much did you end up harvesting?

  • So far I'm at 167 pounds and it's still going strong!!!

  • Well; I gues My 60 pounds was a bit shy. ;0)

    Roberta

  • Never underestimate the power of okra in a good year:) Next year I'll be planting less okra and putting my beans in it's place. Maybe I'll do a bean contest:)

  • That was really cool!!

Okra flowers are very pretty too!!

    Dianne

  • Thanks Dianne! Yep okra blossoms are pretty. Okra is part of the hibiscus family btw. They bloom fairly early in the morning and their blooms then close up in late afternoon.

  • Nick! How long did it take you to train the bees?

  • They seemed to take to the okra blossoms right away without complaint:)

  • If you ever want more bees just ask. I think I have every type of bee at my house. I found they don't like me spaying water at them or hitting them with a broom. They tend to chase you for some reason!

  • can I have some okra...or squash?

  • The squash has long since gave up. The okra is still going strong though. Tossing a ton it it your way!!! I've already put up 35 packs in the freezer and am giving it away left and right.

  • I mean if you're just giving it away... I know a poor graduate student who would loooove to have some in the mail :-)

  • Hehehehe, it goes downhill pretty fast after it's picked. I'm afraid it'd be in pretty bad shape when it got there:)

  • so where would I go to get the okra?

  • fantasic! i want some of that fried okra so bad!

    xoexo

  • I'd give you all you wanted if you were around here. I've got it coming out of my ears now. It kinda tickles:)

  • How tall did they get?

  • In spite of the title of this video my okra plants aren't anywhere near the grave. (Just some of the pods, LOL) It's at 9'7" and counting.
