  • whats the difference between judo and jiu jitsu?? especially that of the ground game and submissions?

  • doin this monday

  • @jahoppas I have no idea why I said that.

  • Are there any videos out there that explain words like 'mission control' 'zombie' etc. Thanks

  • @BushidoCode72 Yep. We made a video specifically for this: Rubber Guard 101 watch?v=wUDqbU2jwxg

  • What's the brand of your training camp?

  • great

  • oh I love that, kimura is ridiculous to try and get on some people, but this makes it so much easier.

  • you make me better grappler than before xD thx for show me nice move and my mistakes xD

  • omoplata

  • @DonutsRGreat ppl speak different languages on youtube, and the translation software is not without flaws

  • great set up for an omaplata as well

  • Very nice! I noticed you don't use monkey grip on the wrist when you said thumb to thumb. My instructor is always telling me about the thumbless grip, but I don't see the point in using it. If my kimura is locked in, I'm pretty sure there's no way the person will break my thumb. Plus I feel like using my thumb would provide a better control. Any suggestions?

  • @jahoppas Old comment, but I agree with you. Thumbless grip is much better for pushing motions (you can use the heel of your palm), but for me, anything to do with grip/pulling is better with the thumb in there.

Haven't ever heard or been shown something differently, but then again, I've only trained for like a year.

  • @AUInnocent It depends. In this situation, I would think the thumb would help. The gable grip, however, is a LOT stronger without using the thumbs. Also keep in mind all the other submissions this can set up. This sets up the inverted triangle, the omoplata, and the carnie. Lets not forget sweeps - there's a flower sweep and/or arm bar here as well if u trap the far side arm before using this technique.

  • one question does your other leg have to remain locking the opponent..to be more secure...hey anyways awesome technique..this is my first submission on someone :P

  • what belt do u have in BJJ(brown)

  • sort of like a half scissor sweep to get them into position, I like it

  • @chartizzle How does this resemble a scissor sweep??

  • i like the video response better!!!

  • @bigtomo69er where can I find this

  • Unfortunately all we have here is that damn American Tae Kwon Do Association or other Tae kwon do schools. I been doing striking arts such as Tang soo do since I was 11 (29 now) want to build a good grappling and ground game. Till i find something close and affordable, I'll watch this. Good videos : )

  • This is a really helpful technique thanks man. I weigh only 125 (I'm 5'6), and my next lightest friend I grapple with is 150. I could never get any moves off just cause of strength, but that kick helped a bunch he was surprised too.

  • Anyone know any submissions from the Guard?

  • @3ch056 you could do the sleeve choke but its easier to do in full mount

  • try putting the other foot on hip otherwise you wont get this on anyone past white belt

  • wow awesome new way of doing it

  • Very good thing thanks for sharing!

  • omg pure awesomeness kimura!

  • Think outside the box for jiu jitsu with the things you learned and/or looked up and youll do good.im on my 3rd day of bjj and im making brilliant progress.they taught me a basic guard pass (didnt freaking work),looked around on youtube and found one of better quality.

  • @jumpman366 im on maybe my 9th class and ive learned a little more than a basic guard pass but i rolled with my friend and tried the basic guard pass (yupp didnt work) but i learn more all the time i learned a few better ones in class and on youtube

  • @lilgoalie im guessing you have never trained so i cant help you.you probably never heard of bridging which is important to reversals and you probably dont have the strength to bridge.

  • Haha I did this to my brother, he was like where the fuck did you learn that? Youtube................... I learned it from Youtube my Brother

  • grappling with my friend is REALLY boring, all he does is just take me down and stand up, once he gets full mount he just holds my arms down, if hes in my guard there is lots of space . i go for triangle he elbows my legs. fyi, he is WAY stronger then me . i quit, he kicks me out of his house and gets pissed off. any tips of how to out grapple him?

  • is the kimura legal in judo?

  • @tyebo87 The Kimura is named after a Judo practitioner who used it to beat BJJ inventor Helio Gracie...so i'm guessing its legal

  • @tyebo87 I'm not a Judo player, but I don't see why it wouldn't be. Since Masahiko Kimura was a Judo player, and he tapped Grandmaster Helio with it, that seems like it should be the most legal move lol.

  • @tyebo87 kimura is illegal. in judo u can do submissions only on elbow joint, kimura goes on shoulder.

  • excellent instruction.

  • Always good stuff! Keep up the excellent work.

  • ive been out of the game ...trying 2 teach soldiers in my platoon while in iraq..you guys have been a great help...thanks

  • Thank you so much for this tip, now I have a hope of doing a kimura, before I thought it was only for the giffted

  • Once again I take it from you and get a tap first night in practice. Thanks again, huge fan of the system. I train in Portland Ore, hoping to get up to spend a couple of day at Vancouver planet 10 this summer.

  • I have been doing that since 93 lol the gracies were tell me that's wrong! yet I would go kimura triangle arm bar off of that. I like going kimura on the left arm like omoplata then shooting a triangle at the other side.

  • @1lostinspace there are always different ways to get moves in jiu jitsu. Even in the GRACIE family, there are variations on moves.

  • @Submissions101

They did not tell me a yeah that's a variation they said no don't do that!

Kind of like they kept telling me to stick to the 90 degree angle on kimuras, I have always found it too easy to straighten your arm out, I stick it deep under their armpit.

  • @1lostinspace If it makes them tap.. it aint wrong. haha. thats my theory.

  • wow!! nice technique!!

  • Where can I buy those shirts? They are not in the hayabusa website.

  • @spellmakerone The no longer make them but we have our version of rash guards on our site that are pretty kick ass ;-)

  • @Submissions101 why does ur comment have 4 thumbs up

  • @Submissions101

Longtime viewer, Even on my old account. I don't understand which direction your shooting your leg??? I try this and I know its how I'm shooting my leg thats hindering me. 1st off Are you launching from your foot or knee? 2nd is your foot or knee suppose to go diagonally towards the opponents shoulder almost or do u literally shoot it as if you were trying to knee yourself in the nose? I've tried this technique and since it wasn't working I'm sure it was my execution to blame

  • @Submissions101

I've been trying this technique and I don't understand why it hasn't been working??? something about how i move my knee, Advice? I don't understand how your moving your knee

  • To get the omoplata isn't there at least 2-3 extra steps to finish it ? And the kimura is just right there. Kimura seems like the quicker finish right there.

  • You guys really know what your talking about.

    Thanks.

    I'm sixteen, from scotland.

I quit boxing last year, wanted to practice MMA, and mabye take it somewhere.

    Thats my dream :P

  • @510Kirky Keep training, my friend. U'll get there

  • Not to be a dick but is your already having to kick your leg forward why not roll it into the Omoplata...it just looks like the omoplata would be more secure as far as him gettingg away if your already there justa few more inches?...

  • awsome move

  • submissions 101 is the best

  • This video series is amazingly good!

  • Wow, good shiit. I never thought about that.

  • These videos are incredibly useful! I will be grading soon and it's great to have a relevant resource to help me revise in my own time. :-D

  • great tip seriously, makes getting a kimura done so much easier.

  • If you're kicking him that far you might as well hit the Omo-Plata.

P.S, I love Submissions 101, and I love all your vids.

    Great technique

  • Thanks a lot you guys! Great videos!

  • awesome-great guys!!!

  • Stupid question, but why do you need the monkey grip when controlling the arm? I've been an MMA fan for a while now and I'm trying to learn more specific details about submissions and whatnot, but I haven't seen any explanation WHY to use the monkey grip. Anyone help me out?

  • this is wayyy better than noobvillage

  • this is awesome, it can turn the steps of the move into one big explosive catch wrestling style kinda sub IMO, but I am still a beginner so I wouldn't really know , videos are great anyway, I am a broke student so me and my mate just hook our laptop up to youtube in the Uni gym and try to teach ourselves and then go role at the gracie school in my city when we can to get essential practice, the vids really help, your a great teacher, cheers

  • You guys always have awesome demonstration videos. Great job!

  • looks like if u miss the kimura u could get an omaplata

  • @morgantheron1:

ya but to get the omaplata you're gonna have to bring the other leg toward you... i see where you're coming from, but too much work. the kimura used in this demonstration is kickass because it's explosive. should be easier when gi'd up.

  • That's a handy trick.

  • Another brilliantly executed technique and video. Five Stars. Thanks for teaching.

  • Do you have any tips on how to do an armbar in that position on a resisting opponent? specifically making him lie on the matt.

  • I've always wondered how is the Americana different from the Kimura? There aren't any Americana videos here are there?

Very nice tip by the way

  • Yes, there are a couple Americana videos on our site. The kimura and Americana are both key locks (ude garami) and the difference is that the Americana is done from mount and is 'inverted' to the kimura.

  • you can do the americana from side mount as well

  • Yes..we should have been specific. A mounted position (side of full). Going for a an americana when someone is in your guard is a bad idea because you don't have the leverage like you do with a kimura.

  • ya I think too many dont understand the leverage stuff. It is like a teder-toder as you make that every type of throw or turn is used with this making it unstopable. In the mount I always go side mount, or use it from the guard. If from the mount your too high and very easy to counter.

  • wow~ awesome! thank you *bow*

  • Yes !!!

Legs should NOT be static when you have your opponent in closed guard.

One advantage that you have over your opponent when he is in your closed guard is that you can use your legs to directly assist your arms (potentailly more than he can use his legs to directly assist his arms).

  • yeah omoplata is a good backup if the kimura fails or even if an armbar fails.

  • at that position would it be a good idea to go for the omoplata?

  • sure....that is available also.

  • u can also kimura lock him with your leg if you did this, I noticed

  • This is an excellent tip.

  • very smart

  • Fucking A! I love this channel.

  • hey submissions 101, can u have a video on kimura on guard and having somekind of transition or distraction to the opponent. Like Faking an Armbar then suddenly u do a kimura instead

  • You guys do great job! Keep on it! Greetings from Poland!

  • great work on the vid. its a great move especially for begginers. i see its more of something to overcome stronger opponents. can't wait for your other tips! more power!

  • technically, isn't the Kimura 'reverse Ude-Garami' ;)... pioneered by the Judo legend, Masahiko Kimura!... used to break Helio Gracie's shoulder?

nice vid, though. these little intricacies make the difference...

  • Someone's done their homework ;-)

  • Do you keep the same "thumb to thumb grib" while trying to apply the kimura?

  • Yes, I do but the other hand is a monkey grip without the thumb. On the other hand, when going for the Americana, I use the monkey grip only (no thumbs).

  • I don't know a great deal about Jujitsu so this may sound like a stupid question, but:

When the guy is leaning over you with his arms down, could you not just smack him in the chops (=face, i'm english)?

Obviously I appreciate that in a training environment you don't want to be smacking the crap out of each other, but in for example an MMA match, would you go for the armlock or try the punch?

  • Combat is fluid and unpredictable..so there may be many options available to you in an MMA fight. Having said that, once you have secured both hands on his one arm, you'll have superior leverage to get the tap or submission (usually). There are MANY examples of kimura submissions in MMA, so it is an effective tool for your tool box.

  • I don't think hitting in jujitsu is allowed. So all these videos released by these guys probably won't have anything like a punch or kick to get their submissions done. Though in a MMA fight you're allow to do that which makes a ton of submission moves better or worst!

  • "bouncingboredom" In an MMA match the guy in the guard probably won`t try to pass guard that way...In Bjj guard is a totally dominant position,in MMA its 50/50,so the guy in the guard is probably going to use his 50% which is ground and pound,THEN you will go for your subs, cuz your strikes are ineffective at that point.

  • nice... i like how you guys don't just focus on subs alone, but you show guard passes and some good sweeps... can we see some more sweeps???

  • sneaky-sneaky!

  • very good video as usual... are you planning to do more videos on sweeps from the guard and half-guard?

  • nice!!!

  • Already saw this on your website. It's a good video. Can we get more guard passes?

  • Yes, we release all our new videos on our main site first, several days before we upload them to you tube. If you guys want the lastest vids, check out our site daily!

  • I know, I was just setting up my question about guard passes.

  • You bet. We'll add some more soon!

  • nice like always guys

  • Nice technique. Frequently I'm stuck in the position you were speaking of.
