God says that in His Church oral teaching is equal with the written word.

God is calling them home. Their eyes are being opened. They read the Bible and the Early Church Fathers and they see the connection.
The Martyr Polycarp's last words;
"Eighty and six years have I served Him and He bath done me no wrong. How then can I speak evil of my King who saved me?"
Polycarp had to have been Baptized as an infant to say that.
