There's just something about the 70's that made being Black extra beautiful. I wasn't born yet but when I watch clips like this the 70's was a time when our people really seemed to be unashamedly soulful, funky, down-home, stellar, groovy and FUN! I love it!
I watch this performance over and over again, and have for years, watching arethas technique, singing while accompanying herself on piano..she seems so comfortable......
I was a kid when I heard this song by Aretha, at that time I was coming to the states from cuba, believe me , I felt in love with this incredible woman who helped me to forget bad times as a child in cuba. Thanks Aretha.
This is a classic track..i remember when i saw aretha franklin live when i was seven years old in detroit she was so young and beautiful and she is beautiful now and i loved her then but more now...she is the undisputed queen!!
Wow! She really sings this song. Notice how she puts her entire body and soul in this wonderful rendition. I remember this song being one of my sister's favorite when I was a little boy in the early 1970's. When I first heard this rendition I just cried my eyes out. Simply beautiful. Go Aretha. She is without the "QUEEN"!!!!!!!!
"You and Me" and "Oh No, Not My Baby" are two of my favorites from the amazing SPIRIT IN THE DARK album. In the 80s Linda Rondstat could have had major hits with them. And if Natalie Cole did it today she'd be sensational. Just imagine Linda in her prime doing "Oh No, Not My Baby" with the Pointer Sisters vamping it up in the background.
arethafan you have posted some of the most incredible footage of the magnificent Aretha....I love you for that...please keep on posting the goodies..thanks my on-line friend. may you always be blessed....OneLove
The Spirit in the Dark lp was in her top 2 or 3 all time R&B lps ever. Her youyouyouyou & me was a beautiful improv. I heard she never lip syanc because she was so used to ad libbing she couln't match up. Who else ever sang live on Soul Train?
thanks for the info. Almost EVERYBODY lip synched on ST and BS. Re hated to try to match up her lips the original records and usually sang live on talk and variety shows even if the instrumental track from the record was played in the back-ground.
Name one chick out there right now, on the charts, that can sing like that...name one. I DARE YOU.

This song expresses the common grounds between a couple. This is my all time favorite love song. Nobody elses voice could've sung it better.

So true. I wish the her record companies would pick up on this and begin releasing new live recordings.
Although, I have only her one song by her performed live that sounded way better than what she recorded on her album.
