  • not sure if anyone knows/cares, but rapper Lil B "the basedgod" did a song called sleep forever using this instrumental. It's nice to finally find this version.

  • @elviajero619 Lil b doesnt deserve any credit for good songs he comes out with... he exploited the music business... couldnt he have just stayed nice and positive? He ruins the black community and its not worth the trade off of his decent music.

  • this song reminds me of the game ico, one of the most beautiful games i've ever played in my life..

  • @MisterBankz I really wanted to enjoy Ico, but I couldn't. Did you play Shadow of the Colossus? It's by the same people and came out later, epic game with an epic, quiet, eerie and outwordly atmosphere. Cant wait for the new one that will come out this fall, team ico <3

  • @Rapi2 i had seen and heard so much about shadow of colossus but never played it, i've been saving to go out and get the team ico HD collection so I could have them both. i'm also waiting for the last guardian. team ICO rukes, they really knows how to create an epic visual experience ^__^

  • pot

  • Skrillex should make a remix of this!!

  • beautiful

  • This song makes me think of funerals. Going up to that motionless pale body, people all around me crying, that painful awareness that this is your fate, you too will one day be in the box. It's terrifying.

  • I tear up a little every time i listen to this song.

  • What's sad is that there are people out there that would love this as much as I do but have never even heard of BoC!!

  • The first time I heard this, it reminded me of the first Devil May Cry game.

  • After listening to Grover Washington Jr.'s "Earth Tones", I wonder if he is an influence upon BoC, or at least this song. Could also be a coincidence.

  • We love you BoC. Come out of hiding.

  • Not in vain its called "farewell fire"

    it extingushes as time passes

    memory also pass away

  • 0 Dislikes.

That's how it should be for every BoC song.

  • This song captures the pure essence of life or relationship or simply fire fading out. This track hurts so bad but feels so good at the same time.I believe what mood u are in can predict the way this song can make u feel.Wow it is amazin and i will play this at my grandmas funeral who passing is gettin closer everyday that passes.

  • funeral's to me shouldn't even have music unless it's good music like this

  • a Chance to start over, and a comfortable farewell, not a sad one.

  • This song is Not depressing to me. To me, it's like a lease on life and a farewell, to a friend, before a change or move to another place or town.

  • No song in existence has generated feelings quite like this; every memory I have is flying through my head at an astonishing rate - good ones, bad ones, ones I don't want anymore.

This song gives me hope that one day my life will turn round, but it also gives me a feeling of apprehension, and that my life will get worse. It's so scientific and sinister; it's just unbelievably good how small and yet so large it makes you feel.

  • @Unfantastic1 Why do melodies make us feel emotions?

  • @Rapi2 The only person that can answer that question is yet to be born.

  • @Rapi2 For reasons beyond our comprehensions.

  • @Rapi2 good question

  • @Rapi2 certain frequencies and tone sequences trigger chemical reactions in our brain that are felt as feelings, that's how you can tell the mood of a song right away, and it can change depending on how it progresses.

  • @Thelightingeffects Very interesting.

  • @Rapi2 yes indeed :) and also why do emotions let us feel melodies

  • @Unfantastic1 You just described what I've been thinking ever since I heard certain BoC songs. It's a warm, happy feeling, it reminds me of my childhood and surfaces memories that I had completely forgotten about, yet at the same time it creates a dark, heavy feeling and sensation in my chest. It makes me question my life even more than I already do at makes me want to experience death just to see what it's like. I wonder how music can do this, neurologically speaking... absolutely beautiful.

  • @mollisk I could not agree more.

  • "Marcus is on keyboards, nothing more. He did it in a night session. There are moments where it stutters and it really feels like someone no longer able to play well out of sadness. That is why you should never program music. Even if it is an electronic piece, it sounds very human, heartbreaking."

  • Great song for last track of the great album.

  • this song is one of the reasons i listen to boards of canada, the mathematical formula can be heard well if payed attention to.

  • if I ever had a chance to create a clip for this track it would show a alone campfire in a forest with slow backward camera movement until the point where the campfire is just a pale orange pixel in a sea of blackness. metaphor of fading live and shit.

  • BoC make soundtrack for GOD!

  • truly ineffable track. listening to this with headphones is a fulfilling experience to say the least, especially the last half where the song seems like it's just about to fade out but it keeps lingering like the last moments of a dying flame.

  • You know, I was listening to this and I really liked the flute tune in the beginning. You'll say: "But there's no flute in this!". Yea, turned out that was my neighbors playing. Weird.

  • one thing i don't like is after six minutes you can't really hear anything at all

  • @zwerty007 not all about hearing stuff, it's about the structure more than anything

  • @everynickistaken1 Yeah, found out it actually sounds really cool if you turn the volume up at that point, its all wobbly and distorted. Not sure if thats on purpose or just from the volume being that low, but its still pretty cool.

  • @everynickistaken1 I agree, the structure of this album is perfected with this song

  • <3...from HUN

  • I have such amazing mental images to this song. I usually put this on while I'm lying in my rack on the boat (I deploy on an aircraft carrier every year), trying to fall asleep.

  • This is amazing. BestRegards from Denmark.

  • BASED GOD!

  • THANK YOU BASED GOD. YOU HAVE ONCE AGAIN OPENED MY EARS

  • ah, the victory theme to our sessions of D&D...

  • well what can i say about this song? pure genius....mind-blowing stuff....anyone else care to elaborate?

  • Today is my 1st valentines day alone in 15 years and this song has me in tears plus goose bumps, but i feel good.Strange i was feelin terrible b4 i heard it.

  • @dudius33 That's the magic of BoC! ;)

  • This group is truly amazing!I feel as if i live inside this music as it flows threw my soul and brings me 2 tears as well as happiness in many of their tracks.I rap and these are great samples that inspire me and as a broken man i feel whole again.thank u BoC!thank u!

  • I think this song at the end of The Campfire Headphase indicated BOC intended for it to be their final record.

  • @allthiseverything Me too they've released The Campfire Headphase

on March 21 2006 5 years ago when I was 8 years old in Year 4 and released

Trans Canada Highway on June 20 2006 when I was 9 years old in Year 4.

This is such a peaceful relaxing song even the part at 3:06-3:48.I listened to the whole album

on June 17 2006 and the whole Trans Canada Highway on August 21 2006.

  • @allthiseverything i wouldnt assume that. there are things that have been going on that prove otherwise....you never know, thats all i can say

  • this song is so painful to listen to

  • its a beautiful song...reminds me as child, staring out my bedroom window on a summers evening, the sky slowly fading into a deep dark blue ocean. slowly, the stars one by one twinkle throughout the nights sky.

  • This is a great song for testing the dynamic range of Youtube. I'm surprised you could still hear it after 6 minutes even.

  • top rated comments guys.......YOU DEPRESSING BASTARDS!

  • @TEKM0SIS, SheJanel

That would be the most depressing funeral ever! This song is so empty, so final, it sounds like something beautiful fading out of existence. This is like how you would feel if you could see all the years after a person dies in an instant, and watch every sign of their presence or impact on the world disappear, one by one until even you have forgotten them. And you couldn't do anything about it but watch it go.

  • Yeah, I guess you're right.

After several times of listening to this, I get more of a bittersweet tone to this.

The "sweet" part of it kicks in about the 3 minute mark.

"Corsair" feels a lot more despairing compared to this.

  • most beautiful comments of all youTube are only below the BOC's video, because they inspire strong emotions.

  • With a good pair of headphones you can actually hear the track very quietly until the very end.

  • love this. so relaxing. anyone wanna recommend other boc songs similar to this one?

  • @orcagirl008 Yeah check out the enitre BoC Discography ;P

naw in all seriousness check out the rest of the Campfire Headphase album, particular tracks such as Tears of the Compound Eye.... 84 Pontiac Dream, Peacock Tail.

But tbh I suggest checking out their entire discog, its amazing.

Oh yeah I almost forgot "1986 Summer Fire" hidden track found at the end of "Smokes Quantity" from Twoism album. (around 3:00 mark)

    -Hoped this helped.

  • This song makes me think of sunsets

  • The song does not go silent until the end. It gradually fades out the whole way through the track.

  • I'd be quite happy with an entire BOC LP of stuff like this...

  • This tune+the album art, WIN. Such a mellow feeling.

  • I wish I could hear it clearly past 3:40

  • Artist : Boards of Canada Album : The Campfire Headphase

Released : March 21 2006. I love you Boards of Canada.

The Campfire Headphase was released on March 21 2006.

At 3:06 the song fades out until 3:48. At 3:48 it's silent until 8:26.

  • @benjaminkabukabu The Campfire Headphase came out in 2005. The Trans Canada Highway EP came out in 2006.

  • @benjaminkabukabu It isn't silent. I turned my speakers all the way up, and even at the end it was still playing.

  • @Treldman o ok thanks.

  • soon we will hear anywhere, it will be the sound of the world will disappear and the anthem of the man who resigned

  • 4:00 it gets quiet. Somehow makes it scarier...

  • I don't find the quietness to be too scary. After listening to it many times, it kinda seems like an analogy to me. No matter how depressing and hopeless life may get, music will always be there with you till the beautiful end.

  • I'd like to hear an ambient version of Olson.

  • this is how the world ends...

  • @razedeezy soon we hear this sound everywhere, it will be the sound of the world will disappear and the anthem of the man who resigned...

  • @razedeezy soon we will hear this music anywhere, it will be the sound of the world will disappear and the anthem of the man who resigned....

  • Beautiful..... Just...........beautiful, beautiful music.

  • This song has a certain eerie sadness to it.. It makes me think of life and death and past memories.. Powerful stuff.

  • this doesn't make me sad. it does bring a massive amount of relaxation to the mind though.

  • At 3:48 it gets silent

  • Has anybody else heard this song in reverse?

  • This song caused suicide and saved me from it at the same time.

  • @Wallistism

    lmfao

  • @Wallistism

You should of just topped yourself you sad cunt.

  • @TheEnglishwanker Obvious troll is obvious.

    Cunt.

  • @Wallistism

    that's creepy mate

  • amazing

  • mindblowing....

  • I hum this tune while looking at the stars.

  • this will be played at my funeral

  • DUDE!!! thats exactly what i said! the way i pictured this song, was after you died, you ended up in a white waiting room.. and this was in the backround veryy veryy gentle and soft, and then in the back someone in a loud speaker is calling out numbers for people that are waiting. I don't know, thats what i was imagining. =]

  • @TEKM0SIS I was thinking of Dayvan cowboy for mine.

  • @TEKM0SIS GREAT, when will it be!

  • @poernaka haha....

  • what a tune

  • Now that I think about it, this would make a fitting song for a funeral. It's subtle and somber enough to induce someone to tears.

  • or more like a requiem for childhood.

  • I should put this on my list of "Songs to Play at My Funeral".

  • @SheJanel why would you want to make someone cry? That's not the point of a funeral.

  • this piece is beyond words. Its little gems like this in music that you always seem to rediscover and put down again, and each time you return they get better and move you more. A true display of musicality in its most natural form.

  • So deep and so special, there just fucking incredible. You have so many tracks on there albums and you can just get lost in them, all there stuffs great though; ambient, downtempo - it's all there. They really move me and keep me going when it comes to music.

  • Oh, well...I guess I was spot on.

    XD

  • Thanks for posting the dialog from the interview--I agree, whenever I do ambient pieces I refuse to sequence them. When they're melodies that are meant to follow beats in a strict sense, then yes I do sequence them, but if it is melody and melody only, the humanization factor is FAR superior to the idea of organizing it.

  • This track really drags you into a state of melancholy.

It makes me think of all of my precious childhood memories, memories that only seem to bring me true happiness these days, slowly eroding away as time moves on.....

Sorry for that kinda depressing post. It was just my personal interpretation of the song.

Nice little tidbit on the song info. I could've sworn I still heard it even when it supposedly ended.

  • That's the idea.

  • Me too! Boards of Canada manages to get so personal and bring back memories, yet it seems to affect every listener the same way!
