@dlarremore No, C.C.'s line is a Muhammad Ali reference. in order to tire out his boxing opponents, Ali would back into the ropes and block himself, leaving them to punch his arms until they tired out. This worked on George Foreman when they fought. Ali called this move the "Rope-A-Dope". Since Schlep Car had the rope tied to him, C.C. says, "Right on, you old 'rope-a-dope', you!" I would like to say that I just translate this stuff, I don't write it!
The late Lenny Weinrib from Magic Mongo, 7 years later voiced Hunk and Prince Lotor in the Voltron. Bart Braverman who played Ace on Magic Mongo was a panelist on Match Game, also voiced Pugsy on "Fangface" and also co-starred on Vega$. Frank Welker, the multi-talented voice talent, still does it even today for over 40 years, does Wonderbug.
Wow! Kaptain Kool(Michael Lembeck) was in real life the son of Harvey Lembeck. The motor cycle leader in the old Frankie & Annette movies (Eric von Zipper)! He & his father also appear on an episode of the Partridge Family(To play or not to play). Michael Lembeck also played Julie Cooper's Husband Max Horvath on the TV show One Day at a Time!
Wow...a Saturday morning kids' show that gives kissing advice and has a charcter named "Superchick"? I'd like to see a mainstream kids' show get away with that today.
Most Krofft shows give all the backstory in the opening credits. Wonderbug was just a schlep car in the junkyard until the kids found it, and attached a "magic horn," which allows schlep to turn into Wonderbug. The loss of this horn gave Wonderbug an Achilles heel for evildoers to exploit. Furthermore, Wonderbug needed your standard duel identity for the same reasons Superman needed Clark Kent.
Here's a little factoid for ya: Did you know that as "Jack Baker," John-Anthony Bailey went on to appear in a bunch of porn flicks until his death in 1994? And now you know the REST of the story!
Did he sing "I want to be your lover, not just your friend" to an audience of kids?

I never understood...and maybe there's a back story...why does Wonderbug change back into a piece of crap? Why not just stay cool all the time?

Too bad shows like this aren't around today. They showed all people could get along black, and white, guys, or girls. Everyone got along
