I think the word marriage is a word with connotation and historical meaning - it's just word games.
It was traditionally, before monotheism - a construct to identify correct parenthood of off-spring. Most people don't know this - but have a collective historical awareness of why marriage exists, and why it has nothing to do with the people married, but with the next generation of people.
Gay marriage in this context, is almost paradoxical - but in our context - legitimate.

Wikipedia. The statistics show some small declines, but it appears to me to be the result of the size of the country and that fact that those who desired marriage got married in larger numbers after the law allowed. No real mystery there.

As this is the case - the irony is - even gay people have an awareness of that - and the push for gay marriage is largely due to the fact that they don't have the freedom for it. They should be given the freedom for it, and recognized as just as rightful to marriage as anyone else.
If I'm correct, and everyone, including gays, have an awareness of the historical reasons for marriage - nothing will change at a societal level, fundamentally.

@superhamzah85 yea sure, but there is really no good reason to deny a certain group of ppl a right that is equally shared by everyone else.. IMO marriage is really just bringing the relationship to a legal state where the partners are liable to each other and can have a means of pursuing action in case of any problems. That is of course the how i feel marriage is of any use in the practical sense. It is a whole other topic on whether marriage is a good thing or not.

I think the word marriage is a word with connotation and historical meaning - it's just word games.
It was traditionally, before monotheism - a construct to identify correct parenthood of off-spring. Most people don't know this - but have a collective historical awareness of why marriage exists, and why it has nothing to do with the people married, but with the next generation of people.
Gay marriage in this context, is almost paradoxical - but in our context - legitimate.
