The drummer for EWF is considered one of the most coveted gigs in the history of pop music. Sonny E might have been the best they ever had. The guy is a monster player. Can play with finesse and as you can see here can totally own a solo! As hot as this is, I believe the solo he plays on the EWF Live in Tokyo DVD from either 1989 or 1990 is even hotter!

Sonny is an incredible player no doubt about that. Rayford Griffin, Ricky Lawson, Omar Hakim to name just a few here are beasts in their own right. You cant compare drummers. They all have their own styles. Heck, Rodney Holmes an incredible player himself. There are plenty of new faces around the corner that will probably take it to the next level. if that is possible? I am sure someone right now is woodshedding that will be more incredible and raise the bar!

I hate comparing musicians, but no one can take anything away from Sonny! I've been around for many years, and he's definitely one of THE best in the world.... What really blows me away is how he can totally kick ass, using BRUSHES! His dexterity, articulation, and use of dynamics are at the highest level.....

And drumrman, his brother Darian is no slouch either, you've got an excellent teacher!
