Hey dad can i drive the car? NO!, Hey dad can i go to the movies? NO! Hey dad can i sail around the world in a small boat? SURE SON. i don`t know why this so called father would allow his 17yr old son to go on such a dangerous trip, He could have very easily have drown, Attacked by Pirates or even his boat coulda been struck by a title wave. But the so called "father" saw a opportunity to get his name in the paper all at the risk of his sons life.
Craig, your parents probably wouldn't let you borrow the car or go to the movies because you obviously aren't trustworthy. Evidently this guy has proven himself to be mature enough and smart enough to his parents. I think the parents did the right thing by letting him go. Yes, lots of bad things can happen out there, but bad things happen in your grocery store parking lot too. At some point in time parents have to let their children grow into adults, most when they are 18-20. Zac's 2 years early
I`d rather take my chances in the parking lot, theirs no pirate, sharks or tidal widal there. And you`re right, at one time a parent does have to let their child grow up to be an adult, how about when they become an adult first?
This kid amazes me. It's incredible how someone my age can possibly survive such a long and dangerous journey all alone. It's an awesome adventure and I hope people realize what an accomplishment this is for Zac! :-)

His website (with blog) is zacsunderland dotcom. He just completed his journey last week though, so the blog updates aren't as frequent.
