Hello fellow musicians and poets(: I'm applying to Berklee College of Music for the semester of Fall 2012 for songwriting & composition. I'd like to know some respective and honest feedback on two of my songs roughly recorded on my page! I will answer questions as well. Please give it a listen and give me some advice on the audition and tips if you have any. Thank you ! :)
Awesome song. I am also applying to berklee next semester (guitar major) and just needed a little advice on which kind of song to play. Can anyone tell me if you think giant steps by coltrane is good enough to get in?
I wil never get further then my own musicschool, but as long i get amused by playing the guitar i'm satisfied i think. In my country you dont get the opportunity to get on the train. People listen to very crappy music all the time and there's no room for any other things. Belgium is a small country with everything and nothing.
Hi there, very nice composition. What are your experiences at berklee? There must be a lot of stuff to be learned over there, but how far does it go? I gues you have to practice hard thru the theory and practice. I think that even if you're go(o)d there's a time that everything you learn is to much? Years i have struggled because i didnt know where to begin. Robert Fripp mentioned once that you have to begin where you are... So i did that after 4 years playing nothing, you know... I will never

@bigtimbolim hey! thanks a lot! Yes it is entirely my own composition. I use Ernie Ball Hybrid strings 0.10 - 0.9) about handling, i think it just a matter of getting used to it.
@Mikeelgafo Buscate alguien que tenga una camara HD, pone una tela estirada de fondo que parezca fondo de verdad... si es negra mejor. Hay muchos videos de iluminacion en youtube buscate que hay varios. Para esos videos de curso de verano lo mejor es grabar directamente sin editar. Si tenes una POD o algo parecido q simule un ampli, lo mandas a un mixer y la base sobre la q toques tb la mandas al mixer y de ahi el mixer a la camara, cosa q la camara tome el sonido del mixer. sino asi nomas

@Th3MetalShockwave en la pagina berklee.edu te especifica muy bien los requisitos para entrar. Para conseguir beca es una serie de cosas, lo importante seria que aprendas algo de armonia, sepas bien tus acordes con 7ma (muchos tipos) con inversiones etc, que sepas leer musica por lo menos corhceas con sincopas y contratiempos. Que tengas un buen entrenamiento auditivo donde sepas reconocer intervalos, acordes etc. Obviamente lo mas importante, que sepas manejar tu instrumento bien, improvisa

hey man this is sick. i have an audition there this coming saturday. im nervous. i hear the school is crazy hard to get into now. im doing an arrangment of Goodbye Porkpie Hat and so far i feel like its gonna be good, but i still have my doubts. i dont know much theory.i know a decent amount, and i can only read music in the first position. i dont have much preformance experience nor do i have any recorded music. i dont know what to think cuz i feel like i have a strong piece.any thoughts?thanks

wow your really good. i am going to audition to a college in January and im scared bc im not that much good of a guitar player and im getting nervous and idk what i should perform its gettinge fustrated :(
@kristhian02 Which college are you applying for? Don't be nervous, audition guys don't want you to fail, they actually want to discover you and find out who you are; that's all. Play what shows the best of you. Don't play something you don't like. And don't know what's your level, but try to moderately show all your knowledge in the audition.
@matias4000 well im starting off in a community college(save money).. i may try to transfer and finish the 2 years in berklee if its possible for me.. the thing is i stared playing guitar about a year and 5 months ago and i been teaching my self. basicly tabs and learning songs.. im taking music theory in school and im hoping that could help me read music. in a scale of 1-100 i could say im a level 25..

They look at your style of playing, your personal influence, and your ability, but not as much as they just want to see raw potential and what you and them can do with it. :D I'm going to an audition in February for Berklee and I'm a bit nervous too, to say the least. So, for anybody asking... I'm starting on January 2011 thanks to god. I had some money issue and had to defer and took a new audition this year to extend my scholarship! And thanks to god, I'll be there this January. Confirmed.

don't take this the wrong way but the part where it picked up sounds like it would totaly fit in a video game, not that it dosnt sound good out side of that, i though it sounded great! but i closed my eyes and say this for an epic boss fight or somthing, i really enjoyied it!
@ibnzjemjr Hola! Teoricamente la cancion no debe ser mas de 3 minutos.. pero bueno eso depende que cancion tocas, estructura etc. Este tema q presente yo no es tan estructurado. Si te tocas 4 acordes durante 3 minutos.. tas muerto
Let me just congratulate you for getting in in Berklee. I loved this composition, it has lots of musical styles in it and it sound beautiful from the beggining 'till the end. Your diversity reminds me of John Petrucci and he was in that school as you probably know, so, my friend, enjoy it, form a magical band and I hope you have a blast!!
@melissblissers Either you didn't get in and are jealous, or you did and you are simply amazing so it doesn't seem like a big deal to you. Either way, getting into Berklee is a big deal, and you shouldn't be an ass about it.

@MatiBtodo14 Hola, mira tenes mucho tiempo. Conozco gente que fue a berklee a los 25 y actualmente la esta pasando bomba. No hay edad para estudiar en la vida. Tenes 16 tenes tiempo para prerarte a mil. Lo del tema del nerviosismo, se lo soluciona practicando mucho, teniendo las cosas bien vistas y tocando mucho.

hey, there's a world tour for people around the world (like me), i could have gone to Brazil in that time, which is closer to my country, but i decided to go to Boston to visit Berklee; but auditions are given all over the word.
You don't have to write your own piece, you could play a cover, a standard tune, an improvisation; you can play whatever you want.
hey! i used a backing track. There's no problem with that, you can definitely use one. You could also bring somebody to join you. or hey, you could use a Loop Station
when you finished auditioning, did the guys auditioning you saying anything afterwards? Also does it affect if a person doesn't play the optional chords given during the warm up?
well, it is always better if you play them, but i guess that if you did good in other sections you shouldn't worry! Mmm after playing the piece the guy told me he liked it and i was very creative, but after finishing the audition they just said "that's all, now you have to go to the interview"
hey! i bought just the guitar, on 2003, but i think it is from the 90's because it also says gibson, back then when epiphone and gibson had a partnership or something like that.
Oh yeah well they still are like buddies in guitar making. Im still a beginner in guitars and such but what type of amp did use and what did u have the dials turned on to get that kind of sound it sounds really nice

don't take this the wrong way but the part where it picked up sounds like it would totaly fit in a video game, not that it dosnt sound good out side of that, i though it sounded great! but i closed my eyes and say this for an epic boss fight or somthing, i really enjoyied it!

@ibnzjemjr Hola! Teoricamente la cancion no debe ser mas de 3 minutos.. pero bueno eso depende que cancion tocas, estructura etc. Este tema q presente yo no es tan estructurado. Si te tocas 4 acordes durante 3 minutos.. tas muerto

Let me just congratulate you for getting in in Berklee. I loved this composition, it has lots of musical styles in it and it sound beautiful from the beggining 'till the end. Your diversity reminds me of John Petrucci and he was in that school as you probably know, so, my friend, enjoy it, form a magical band and I hope you have a blast!!

@MatiBtodo14 Hola, mira tenes mucho tiempo. Conozco gente que fue a berklee a los 25 y actualmente la esta pasando bomba. No hay edad para estudiar en la vida. Tenes 16 tenes tiempo para prerarte a mil. Lo del tema del nerviosismo, se lo soluciona practicando mucho, teniendo las cosas bien vistas y tocando mucho.

Hola! soy de Argentina, y audiciono ahora en Abril....estoy corto de tiempo, no practique nada!!!!! no soy bueno tecnicamente, estoy confiando en mis composiciones, en los demos que tengo.... asi que no puedo tocar una canción muy complicada :( que me recomendas???? que buscan los tipos en los guitarristas???? estaba pensando en tocar el 32-20 blues de R. hey, there's a world tour for people around the world (like me), i could have gone to Brazil in that time, which is closer to my country, but i decided to go to Boston to visit Berklee; but auditions are given all over the word.
You don't have to write your own piece, you could play a cover, a standard tune, an improvisation; you can play whatever you want.

well, it is always better if you play them, but i guess that if you did good in other sections you shouldn't worry! Mmm after playing the piece the guy told me he liked it and i was very creative, but after finishing the audition they just said "that's all, now you have to go to the interview"

hey! i bought just the guitar, on 2003, but i think it is from the 90's because it also says gibson, back then when epiphone and gibson had a partnership or something like that.
