A friend and I were going to do this in the 8th grade talent show. When the Dean of students watched Groove Tube he declined our act. And this was in 1982. Way before political correctness took over. I never could understand.
I remember the first showing of this skit was outside a place called the "Groove tube" on an outdoor tv monitor. The year was 1970 on the east side of broadway and a half a block north of Diversy in Chicago. You walked upstairs and paid about 2 bucks to watch tv shows on video tape, which was rare at the time. Inside there were a bunch of rooms set up like an old comfortable den with large throw pillows all over the place and all the coke you could drink out of an old fridg.
Wow, for a comedy legend this isn't quiet what I expected. I wonder who the bitter old git that hit him with a closed fist is and why Cornelius/Chevy agreed to doing this skit at all?
Oh and if you put his usage into perspective and take into consideration the people he worked with, surely you could get off that high horse christine...
I believe it's impossible to name a funny comedian of his calibre that didn't use some kind of narcotic.
A very creative, funny and, at times, bizzar flick !

P.S. Remember Chevy Chase was totally unknown when this was made. Probably his first public performance.
