Many people dont know that the (ironically named) American Competativeness in the 21st Century Act, sponsored by Kennedy and Feinstein, actually did away with the stipulation that a H1-B worker only be hired when no qualified American worker is available. It also removed the H1-B visa cap for educational and research institutions. We need affirmative action for Americans.

The employers hire them for high-paying meatpacking and construction jobs because they don't have to pay Workers' Comp, SS, or any other benefits. These jobs could be held by legal Americans. I agree with you that illegal immigration is a problem, but it seems as if you're only looking at one side of the coin. Why do they want to come back after deportation? It's quite simple; the incentive to come back still remains. You cannot just get rid of the immigrants, you need to destroy the incentive as well. The problem lies with businesses that knowingly hire illegals to save money. Don't just go after the illegals; go after the unethical businesses (the source) as well.

Of those, I don't know what happened to one, but of the other 4, 2 are being done by people in India and 2 are being done by people in the Phillipines. H1-B visas were designed to fill gaps where specific skills could not be found in American workers. However, the system has been abused to simply replace American workers with similarly or lesser skilled foreign workers because they work for lower pay and because it is difficult to leave the employer sponsoring the visa.
