  • this gives Me a new respect ( or respect) for Brian....definitly a purist to this era & style....He always was even in the 80s whenit wasnt cool

  • This is an abortion! He doesn't even come close to the feel of the 1959 classic.

  • this is great fun to see. But you know, you can put a code into the "tags" section to get the aspect ratio correct:

    yt:stretch=4:3

  • i'm there....

  • Check out Les Paul doing it at 90 years old! great

  • THE SHADOWMEN SLEEPWALK A nice live version also.

  • O_o Awesome :)

  • I like the Satriani studio version the best...good and clean sounding, like a dreamy full moon Hawaiian beach...closest sound to the original..consider also the original was written for the steel guitar!

  • he has one of the sickest hairstyles without a doubt

  • "Richie!!!"

  • Setzer does the best rendition of this tune, IMHO. (To the poster, thanks for this vid!) This guy plays the most amazing, far out, jazzy chords, and still with a rocker attitude. I pretty much play the "Setzer" version almost every time I play guitar - well, my sloppy hack version anyway! The crazy thing is the ending is the best part and that's not even on here... Players- listen to the Brian Setzer Orchestra version and you'll know what I mean. Peace, people...

  • @elguitaristador I prefer above all the original S & J '59 version, but specifically acquired the Setzer Orch CD just for this tune alone -- so it's a reeeeeeeeeeeal close second, maybe even a tie. (this was before itunes and all that jazz lol) -- this guy rocks this town, and then some. The worst thing that ever happened to him was Stray Cats, and I am a cat lover lol!

  • @scubalicious67: My favorite version is the original Santo and Johnny version, but this one is very good. Another one you might want to check out is Arlen Roth's version, done a few years back. He used only a std. electric, plus a lap steel. Danny Gatton also did amazing things with this tune...

  • Parts of it were nice. The other little parts in between were completely out of tune and just a stunning show of guitar arrogance. I'm sure what's his face sees this now and thinks, what a fucking wanker.

  • PURE ALKA - SETZER !

  • HERMOSO!!!!!!!!!

  • The best living American Guitarist.

Maybe even the best living American.

I am serious: Brian is a living walking breathing INSPIRATION.

  • Are you guys seriously telling me that neither Knopfler or Setzer were in the RS top 100 of all time? Really? Wow. Shows what they know.....

  • @trailrunner78 Knopfler and Setzer weren't the only ones they left out. That magazine is a joke.

  • cant understand how u can give brian setzer thumbs down, there are so many versions of this song and brian is one of the few who plays this peace alone without backing! thats much harder to do

  • When Rolling Stone or Guitar Player magazine do their guitar player polls or rankings, it's always the same musicians. Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Eddie Van Halen, Stevie Ray Vaughn. Those guys ARE great, but why does Brian Setzer's name NEVER get mentioned?

  • @SirReal1958 i agree with you i feel the same way about Mark Knopfler. i think he doesnt get the recognition he deserves and he deserves to be included among all these great guitarist.

  • @cruisernet: Regarding Mark K., I am still sick at heart that he broke up Dire Straits, one of my all-time favorite bands. Mark is a phenomenal musician, and brilliant guitarist with an instantly recognizable sound. He doesn't get his due at all...

  • @SirReal1958

I thought the SAME thing when my Rolling Stone arrived. Geez.. you'd think out of 100 great guitarists , Setzer would be in there somewhere !

  • did anyone else catch the "your move asshole" stare he gave at the end

  • dude's playing his version and it kicks ass!!!

  • As far as I'm concerned the man plays with 'feeling' and that's all that matters...

  • @Argenturtle Troll.

  • @Argenturtle go suck a pile of turds! ...why are you hating on it then Why are you here??

  • @Argenturtle Please....vomit while sleeping on your back , kthxby!

  • Man is no joke!

  • Holy crow at 2:00

  • RITCHIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE !!!!111!1!1!!!1

  • Not only can he "wheelie a motorcycle with a black midget tap-dancing on the front fender while playing on a harp with his left butt cheak and doing a sodoku puzzle with his right" He probably can fart the national anthem in three parts, while swinging the flag with his butt.

  • You say Hendrix, I say Setzer.

  • Very under-rated guitar player.

  • @bradh716 now, dats a stupid ass thing to say. Everyone dat knows of Brian Setzer knows dat hes one jazzy mother fucka that can play his shit, and play it good

  • @bandana32 Weirdo.

  • a fair bit of buzzing coming from that guitar, bad fingering or bad setup ?

    good version though

  • @19501960 Nope, it's just honest raw guitar playing.

  • GRETSCH 6120

  • Does anybody know what kind of guitar he's playing?? Want one so bad!

  • @aerobutton looks a lot like a gretsch hollow body, which i'm pretty sure that's setzer's signature bran, but they cost a pretty penny

  • I've heard Satriani's version. It's a joke compared to Setzer's.

  • SLEEPWALK THE SHADOWMEN Lovely version worth watching.

  • kinda looks like 80's yngwie.....

  • Interesting version of Sleep Walk--this guy can pick.

  • you might not like this version better than others, but how can you hate on talent? lol... I know nobody can pick up that instrument and make it sound like that..

  • hahahaha at the end hes just like "can i go home now?"

  • Sloppy.

  • cool

  • He could probably make his guitar say a sentence. Fuck.

  • wtf is this shit loks klike a kindergarden fucking up a song

  • @UNIONX2011 What is that sentence? your're clearly a retard so I won't hold it against you.

  • dammit boy i`ve been trying to play this for ages and i just cant get it to flow , ...kudos to the seltz this is a brilliant piece

  • i feel like shit now:/

  • Tritone substitution FTW at 0:53. Smooth.

  • Why is BS not universally recognized as one of the greatest guitar players EVER?

  • sounds like Danny Gatton

  • Totally tight!

  • I will never be this good....EVER....

  • Its nice but how can you compare this to Joe satriani version? lawl

  • awesome

JUST SAW SUM PEOPLE CLICKED DISLIKE ! i dont get how or y

  • awesome

  • This makes me want to never pick up my guitar ever again.

  • Roy Clark was close Brian is the Best

  • he;s the King of Guitar

  • the origials way better hate how he trys to freestyle a classic

  • i look like i just woke up??? who cares, betcha cant play this

  • His hair...... is unfair.

  • Ritchie!!!!!!!!!!

  • man hes got this shit on lock

  • At the end he's looking at the camera crew and probly saying "Can I go now?"

  • From 1:46 on his playing reminds me of Marty McFly...................out of control at the Under the Sea dance.

  • 1:46 he starts getting a lil bit outa control...

  • Comment removed

  • @chabeworks you realize he won a grammy for his version of this song, right?

  • @chabeworks what?? This song was a SOUL ORGY!

  • the Chuck Norris of guitar playing

  • 0:34

can't take the rockabilly out of him

  • Dig how he "palms his pick" when he needs too . . . . as to play with the thumb and index fingers combined.

  • @duqmiguel Mistake . . . the index cups the pick and the thumb and middle finger do the work.

  • :O wow....who is this guy? I'm surprised he was able to play such an amazing song with only a guitar....

  • old videos are better!!

  • Rubbish.

  • simply the best!

even better then Santo and Jonny!

  • @MrHydra19 I love Setzer ... but NO WAY

  • I met Brian at NAMM back on 2002. What a cat! Spent about 20 mimutes with me just BSing about music. He took the time to stop and talk with me? Who am I? nobody....a pure gentleman. Thanks Brian!

  • this is wrong ,he misses a chord a 1:33...

  • @metamaggot OOOOHHHHHHH no, it would sound so good if that one chord was in there.

  • @XxXChizelXxX yeah it's really a shame he c'ant play...

  • @metamaggot lol, yeah thats why he is a house hold name...because he cant play lol.

  • @XxXChizelXxX yeah it's funny how the whole thinks he can play ,when he can't...

l guess l'm just superior to everybody because l know and they don't....

  • @metamaggot He leaves a chord out, you leave a word out...Guess that makes it even now...funny stuff.

  • @XxXChizelXxX oh yes i forgot a word...it was "this sucks" lol

  • @metamaggot lol

  • @XxXChizelXxX you're not supposed to laugh you're supposed to tell me it's two words and that l'm a retard...no fun...

  • @metamaggot yeah i was getting bored with it all lol.

  • @XxXChizelXxX bye then...

  • tocai como las weas fome culiao

  • I still like the original better but you are GREAT as ever!

  • This guy is awesome! He knows more about music than anyone for writing charts.Improv at its best! Stray cat slut!

  • One of the great things about Setzer and this tune is you can find a half dozen great videos of him playing this and he plays it differently every time. Sleepwalk live in japan is my favorite.

  • Sorry, not so hot. . .

  • lol someone complaining about setzer's version should check satrini's version!

  • Another amazing version...how can anyone say most like the original though?? Maybe I saw the wrong original....on lap steel right?? Closest I've seen to the original is Jeff Becks, he doesn't add a bunch of extra notemeil just goes for the proper sound in his own amazing way!!

  • @RaymondFRevalee

You're an insultingly pretentious, condescending asswipe. Let's see you make a better version, then go trashing a great arrangement of a great tune.

  • Now I know where Edward Cullen got the idea for his hair.

  • Setzer ALWAYS brings a smile to my face....his interpretation of this song is great! Thanks for posting. Damn...he'd be a kick in the pants to have around a campfire, wouldn't he?!

  • @Joshuanorris1980 Right on!

  • I just going to say one thing and is....

    youtube.com/ watch?v=euBE6LUu3qU

version most near to original and amazing rendition...

  • Fact of the matter is Setzer did/does an amazing job of this rendition of Santo & Johnny's Sleep Walk. The techniques are plain phenomenal and its work like this that has made him one of the top 10 guitarists in the world.

  • I remember my dad watching this in the living room and playing along when I was about 6 or 7 he had some vhs with this on it

  • that was cool....one of the better versions that doesn't hold the line

  • cast390, rahee420(how fucking poser is that?),HelgeOldieGuy867, you dipshits can't recognize informal relaxed noodling when you hear it?

  • Amazing how he switches from holding the pick between his right thumb and index finger and then holding it back so he can finger-pick with his bare thumb so seamlessly. No wasted motion. Anyone who criticizes this video I say post your video of you doing the same thing or else shut up!

  • Ironic that he should be playing this song as they both featured in LaBamba

  • Brian has golden fingers.

  • Lol @the comment below me lol

  • That was horrible

  • man i am diggin the gretch tones, very cool guitar ,perfect for this tune, keep on rockin brian.

  • meaningless!

  • From the Hot Licks DVD...heck yeah. Please check out the song I wrote as a tribute to Setzer and the Cats. I reference 15 of their songs in it. It's called "This Kitten is Smtten"

    youtube.com/watch?v=XwZrO2zmRwM

  • I don't like it because his chord transitions are not smooth, too choppy. I'm not sure what he was trying to do with this tune.

  • that gretsch sounds killer!

  • @Joshuanorris1980 then dont read this assholes comments...just enjoy the music ...i never understood why people would waste there precious time commenting on OTHER people COMMENTS!!!! :) fuckin BUY a GRETSCH..GET A LIFE PLAYYYYYYYYY!

  • @STORYTASTIC Because maybe if you point out to this guy how closed minded his ideas on music are, it might make him stop and think outside the box a little bit even if he still disagrees and maybe he will learn something. Maybe not. Its not just about bitching. Its about sharing your views and about setting the record straight when people say shit that's stupid or just wrong. If nobody replied to other ideas, nobody would ever learn anything. I learn stuff from other people all the time.

  • wow what a smart review give this guy a cup lol

  • My fingers hurt just watching this.

  • was kinda getting bored until that lick at 1:50, that was pretty damn sick!

  • alright, i get it. my issue with this version is not that it isn't accurate, but that it's incredibly stupid. i mean, all these obligatory blues runs, come on, really? proof that though brian setzer is a great guitarist from a technical standpoint, he'll always be a soulless tool.

  • Mmmm, I wonder what type of delay he is using. I would love to have it!

  • @Enterthedeath I think you can get a really close delay using the tube tape echo. but its very expensive ^^

  • @leanderguitarfreak Is there a cheaper pedal that I could get? I don't have a 1000 dollar budget.

  • @Enterthedeath Yes, you can buy the modern BOSS RE-20 Roland Space Echo Twin Pedal for just under $200! It's a digital version of the Roland RE-201 analog tape echo Brian uses made back in the 70's. It's made by the same company and so it funtions very much the same and some people say even better. Check out the you tube reviews on this pedal.

  • wonderful!!

  • Is he using the bridge pickup or the bridge/neck setting?

  • man that guitar sounds good..so even..

  • Du bist einfach nur gut...........

  • not a big Setzer fan but that is FUCKIN AWESOME

  • uuuuu suena muy mal

  • @cachero37 Have you ever come up with a good new version of something? I wonder, can you even play the guitar? That comment shows you can´t.

  • Brian Setzer is a guitar god. Seen him several times in concert. Awesome musician and showman. This is a nice change of pace. Just him and his guitar. I like it. Shows just how talented this man is.

  • Is there anything Brian can't do?

  • @River951Side Make smoothies.

  • @River951Side I think he can't wheelie a motorcycle with a black midget tap-dancing on the front fender while playing on a harp with his left butt cheak and doing a sodoku puzzle with his right.

  • @FretFreak02 i'm pretty sure he can...

  • @FretFreak02 I think I saw him do that last week in fact, so you can mark that off his things to do list.

  • @FretFreak02

yeah he can..While playin' "Sleepwalker" and fighting Chuck Norris....

  • @FretFreak02 Get the fuck outta here!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • @FretFreak02 You're silly, of course he can't do that. He's right-butt-cheeked :-)

  • @FretFreak02 Maybe not but he can sure play the bejeezus outta this song.

  • @FretFreak02 Like your style! Appreciate this guy Folks!

  • That is some breathtaking shit right there.

  • AHHH FUCK YEAH!!!

  • Versions are versions, covers are covers.

This one is a version, period.

I really like the chords at the beggining, but he could have done a better job with the silences between them. =)

  • One of the most under appreciated guitar players ever, doing what he does best making the rest of us wish we had a tenth of his ability and talent.

  • @TheJaybrone him, Mark Knoffler and Albert Lee.

  • yum ... on so many levels!

  • Most underated guitar player..Awsome rendition ...

  • Most underated guitar players..Awsome rendition ...

  • Chuy!

  • Very Nice

  • uhm_ány_guys_wÄNt_tó_chÁt_wIth_mè

  • @SesyuaVenaaj209 Wha' you wanna chat about, cupcake ?

  • I hope you people mean "try playing lap steel on a regular guitar". Santo and Johnny played it on a lap steel. You nitwits. -.- Which makes it even more difficult for Brian to play it and make it sound exceptional on a guitar.

  • that's about 9 different varieties of sexy.

  • What a fucking tosser.

  • @Carthsgtr Die ! MuthaFucka, Die !

  • damn what a talent....

  • Bastard!

  • Would love to play on that rig.

  • @Joshuanorris1980 I agree..It's called an arrangement not just a straight cover. Don't get me wrong I love the original but the re-arranged covers by Brian, Joe Satriani and Jeff Beck are all very cool in their right IMO. Different flavors by three VERY talented Guitar players each putting their own tweak on it.. Variety is cool.

  • a nice cover, brian never dissapoints me,music is like ice cream, one flavor would be boring.try playing a slide guitar song without a slide, i dare ya,lol

  • I'd like to hear just one of these "fretboard skateboarders" play this song lick for lick..yea that would be h
