  • Jeff Wall has made a very important contribution to visual art over the past 30 years or so but this talk is...odd. I've seen and read very interesting interviews with him but he seems bored, and boring here. Perhaps he is speaking slowly and in a monotone way because he is conscious the audience speak English as a second language but I switched off pretty quick. He is throwing comments out without backing them up as well

  • Great lecture

  • Interesting speech.

  • I worked with Jeff Wall a few years ago. He is a total asshole. Jeff didnt even make eye contact with me and others who installed his super big over bloated work. I hope the art world wakes up.

  • This is hard to understand. He tosses out phrases without explaining them, assuming we understand what he means. Very poor speech writing.

  • it's called 'english'. It's actually very simple the way he expresses his ideas... simple and concise. no tricks.

  • what shit

  • I have added a link to the complete text of this lecture in the 'About This Video' section.

  • Contemporary art is an oxymoron, a spectacle of tired charlatans spewing lumpy diarrhea, videotaping this, and screaming "WITNESS MY ART!" at the top of their lungs. Alas, this is the only possible eloquence in a society so caught up in its own shit, it fails to see it. The art of the future will involve a public burning of all art and artists, videotaping this and starting a small republic with the proceeds. Since life will be art, there won't be a need for artists, just farmers and soldiers.

  • i thought Contemporary art yeah , but this guy jeff wall photographer is fucking awesome. you have got the see his photos

  • dont be stupid.

  • Why are all strawman portrayals of modern art within criticisms scatological in nature?

  • Hey Dude, have you checked out "the elephant burps" video on youtube...it's totally awesome!

  • Apparently contemporary art is getting its job done--it is getting you, as well as others, albeit in an ignorant and saddening way, to ask the question: "What is art?" I believe modern to contemporary art is more important than anything classical or baroque, etc, because it creates a world different than reality and it questions reality.

  • no period in art is less or more important than the other. we couldn't have the art we have today without the art we had in the past. it's all relative to eachother and "modern" art is art of that time.

  • ok karl, grow up and join this century.
