A lot of people don't realize that the Smurfs in the 80's were some of the first ever use of computer animation - you can see the multi-plane effect in this opening. Those scenes were done by myself and Ann Tucker (scene planner). This was my favorite one we did - too bad the video quality is so poor here.

Is this the 1987-88 intro?
It looks like a 1987 intro, b/c Wild Smurf and grandpa Smurf are seen in the opening credits and that the 1987-88 season was the debut of Wild Smurf.
Also, the 1987-88 season was the last season to use the original lyrical version of the Smurfs theme before they revamped the theme tune for the final 2 seasons in 1988 and especially '89.
