Take the 700 Billion dollars, and buy all the Adults that file a tax returen making less than 50k an electric or hybrid car.
That would begin to reduce gas consumption, oil demand, build up the Auto industry, increase employment like crazy, begin to lower emissions and help the lowest paid americans get buy. And of course it would also decrease demand for oil/gas and drop prices some. That would be about 28million new vehicles.
The principles included reocmpensation for the tax payers through equity stakes in the firms they were bailing out, protection for consumers who have taken out mortgages, set capitalization standards for banks to prevent another meltdown, and a few other standards

The original "deal" that was announced by the democrats was obviously a BAD deal for it to have fallen apart like it did.
If it was truly a good deal, it wouldn't have fallen apart just because a 2nd deal is placed on the table.

The fact that McCain would lure everyone, including media back to Washington, just to help ruin the chance for a resolution, shows what kind of president he would make. Of course it was a rebublican powerplay, but the timing is terrible - it is seen as just more time wasting and perhaps McCain trying to change the Headlines.

sounds good, Fannie and freddie used to make money untill they were told to give loans to people that were subprime. Then when the government puts a Guarantee on the money, you start this kind of problem. If the markets were left alone bankers would not lend money to high risk borrowers with out downpayments. but the real problem is not home owners, it that banks could loan money out up to 30 to 1 mabye more. it would only take 100 billion to buy all the forclosed loans

Hey, i got it. I have the answer to all our problems at once.
Take the 700 Billion dollars, and buy all the Adults that file a tax returen making less than 50k an electric or hybrid car.
That would begin to reduce gas consumption, oil demand, build up the Auto industry, increase employment like crazy, begin to lower emissions and help the lowest paid americans get buy. And of course it would also decrease demand for oil/gas and drop prices some. That would be about 28million new vehicles.

The principles included reocmpensation for the tax payers through equity stakes in the firms they were bailing out, protection for consumers who have taken out mortgages, set capitalization standards for banks to prevent another meltdown, and a few other standards
