Well, the wheelbase was rusty and weak, it would cost me 3000 euro's to repair it and then it was not sure he came to the dutch car test, a bit to much for a student :-/

But the adventures i lived with this car (driving to all the big city's in europe) will last forever ;-)

the volvo 240s from the 80's are miserable little noise boxes. terrible to drive and very unreliable but the 700s and 900s from that era were excellent.

I sold my 1989 240DL in 2004. It was 395 000 kms and still going strong with the original engine. Not to mention that most of the drivetrain of the 240 was kept for the 740. AW70-71 automatic transmissions, B23/B230 red block 8 valve engines, M46/M47 manual transmissions. All were common to both models. But yeah, the 240s were noisier than the 700/900 series.

Cool! Volvo is durable and safety but it consume a lot of fuel, thus we nicknamed Volvo 240 as "Tank" , 740 as "Military carrier" in Hong Kong. Many professionals such as Doctors, Lawyers own Volvo until today

they have what you call "e-code" headlights. that is, european-spec. I have a 1989 740 Turbo Estate with the headlight wipers, and before that I had a 760 GLE Saloon with the same headlights - I'm in the UK, and they're standard equipment here.
