You just cant argue when they pull you over because you know you obviously fucked up. Like when they pulled me over for driving in the car pool lane by myself. I actually respect these guys, they are alot more professional than regular cops.

they are being thanked for being brave individuals, this job isnt meant for everyone. These people put there life on the line constantly to protect people they dont even know, they take and carry an oath. the officers that i know even work for free, and they all say the same thing, "trained to perform". The CHP is a very intelligent and Strategic division, departments from all over study there tactics.

they are definitely Heroes!

such a thankless job...i always thank them for the job they do everytime i see one...and they are all very humble about it. A CHP officer made a big impact on me when i was small. Well i hope one day i will be a CHP officer myself and ride motorcycles for them and return the favor to someone that was given to me years ago.

Good luck to you JdmDRFTkid, make sure you arrive in top shape for the academy though cause from what I hear it's tough. I want to be a police officer here in CA as well, but I'm looking to stay with a local agency in San Diego County where I grew up...that's the only reason why I wouldn't join the CHP, but yeah they rock.

good luck to you too my man! yeah the CHP academy is very tough, but i've been told i can get through it. i live here in Los Angeles and over here we are really short on officers so if i go CHP they will place me back home. i also applied for L.A. County Sheriff and police.

Sorry about the delayed response, I hope to join the Chula Vista Police Department because its the highest paid agency in San Diego county, but I'd settle for joining the SDPD.

I have heard that most CHP recruits are sent to Los Angeles as their firt assignment upon graduation of the academy, so good luck patroling the streets of L.A.

When are you planning to apply, that is, if you haven't already done so.

sorry for my late response, well getting Los Angeles as a first assignment is actually what i want cuz i live in Los angeles so i know all the streets. haha

dont just settle for an agency or go to one because they pay better go to one that has a positive, creditable and respectful name.

i applied awhile back but was turned down because they gave my seat to a Iraqi freedom vet instead and rightfully so.

i will reapply though in two years....when i come back from iraq and honorably discharged. =)

I know what you mean now about the applying for an agency because the pay is better...I posted that comment 5 months ago, and I think I've learned a lot more since then.

I'll probably be applying to every local agency this summer when I turn 21. I just got my associates in criminal justice, and if I don't get picked up by an agency this year, I'll just continue working towards my bachelor's over at SDSU.

Is the CHP the only agency you plan to apply with? They are definitely the elite in law enforcement. It really takes one of CA's finest to become a CHP officer.

That being said, I've always had a thing for local LE vs. state & federal, so that's the route I plan on taking.

Im applying in two years also... After my driving record is cleared and I have enough time to show I have learned from my mistakes. I was a typical teenager back in the day speeding like an idiot now I have to wait until 2011 when I can have all the points taken off my record...
