  • in french borgs sound like humans, doesnt need picard voice, it makes no sense ...

  • german has a cool synchrnonisation but the others are funny as well+

  • the german versions of Riker and Wesley are sooooooo lame. All the french version is lame (I am french myself)

Italians are the best at dubbing

  • @msinvincible2000 If you compare a lot of movies in dubbing you will recognize that the Germans are the best at dubbing. A lot of Americans say that too!

  • Captain Picard actually sounding French. :o

    Awesome.

Now to hear him in Canadian French...

  • data sounds great

  • Italian lang is Best the Best outstanding

  • At least my compatriots who dubbed TNG in Italian haven't done so many errors as the ones who dubbed TOS. But the French version is phonetically funny, the Spanish one is strangely "military" and the German one has made me revalue that language: its sounds aren't so hard as I thought!

  • "Lieutenant Crusher"? oO

  • At least the Germans have more than 1 borg, the French are so cheap, only 1 voice?

  • Man, french Borg is so funny

  • I'm German, I simply love the German versions of Star Trek, they sound very close to the original.

I have a funny fact for you:

Wesley Crusher sounds very annoying in the German Dub, I always asked myself: I know I heard his voice before, but where ?

I found the answer. His voice, by Sven Plate, was also the voice of German Bugs Bunny.

Wesley Crusher = Bugs Bunny :D

  • The german dub for TOS is excellent. Kirk sounds like a normal person, for one thing. But when TNG is concerned dubbing Patrick Stewart should be illegal.

  • English Collective is the best one. French Borg are speaking through a phone. Greman Borg are simply robots from some old film. Spanish Borg are good and Italian Borg are drunk.

  • @19091026 Look for >Widerstand ist zwecklos<. There you hear the Voyager borg in german. Sounds way better

  • Regarding the non-English ones:

The French seems to have been well rounded in all aspects, while the German one did quite nicely except with Wesley's voice, and I think the Spanish dub had the best borg voice especially with the distortions like at 5:07 which made it sound darker.

So the French and German are my favourites.

  • French Picard is French. I love it so hard. It sounds so awkward. ALL THE MEN SOUND THE SAME.

German Wesley needs to stop helium now. It's hard to believe they couldn't just find a normal guy to make a young voice. Plus they speak so much in German that it sounds like they are all interrupting each other.

Spanish Star Trek is just for the lolz.

  • r2d2 = arzwo dezwo :D

  • German Picard ... machen sie es so! :-)

  • Who ever did the voice for Weasley Crusher in the German version needs to lay off the helium!!!!

  • German suits to Borg :P

  • Wow... Wesley doesn't actually sound particularly annoying in French...

  • The Spanish borg sounded the best of the none english versions.

  • spanish Data LOL

  • i think netherlands does

  • Does any country show TNG in English with subtitles of a different language?

  • Ofcourse! MANY! Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland, Poland, etc...etc...

  • yeah Romania

  • @ChiMike07 Sweden does.

  • McEveety,

    Great idea.

  • the German Wesley sounds like a midget or a eunoch

  • so tru, so true, good one!

  • To hell with the french dubbed borg and crew..lol

  • To hell with it ... ?

    Wow...

  • 5:00 souns bad

    la blalbalalalabalbbo

  • lol! Les Borg en francais!!

    This sounds so gay.

I´m not saying this because i´m a german native speaker but the french language, as fluent as it is, simply doesn´t suit a race like the borg.

The german picard/ picards are the best one beside the "original"

  • so what's with this? i get bagged on because of my german to nazi connection, yet this guy calls french gay and no one has a problem. i think this has actually offended two groups of people.

    nothing against the OP.

    ___

The Problem of the french Borg is that their voice isn't modified as it is in the original. It sounds as if you are hearing them through a phone.

  • it's always the same, isn't it? is german spoken by nazis only?

  • by that reasoning to 1/7 of humanity (Indians) the English sounds like colonialist snobbery.

Get some culture you unilingual retard...

  • yes you are right about the imperialistic nature of countries speaking our language. it is part of the way the world views us that i just have to live with, and i accept it. so no argument there.

but you can't tell me the borg don't have nazi qualities. i did not intend to offend any germans. sorry if i did.

  • Dont know where you get the idea that english is 'your' language... According to your profile, you're american. You don't have an indiginous language. Just as you dont have anything else, that's indiginous - apart from the 0.2 percent (or whatever) of actual americans that live in your country.

Indeed the Borg do have fascist qualities. Most truly great villains do.

  • wow. you actually looked at my profile? for a youtube argument?

i did not intend to imply any ownership or creative contribution to the development of the english language. i think it is common for people to refer to "the language that i speak" as simply "my language." you know what i meant. you would be a good politician.

as for your attacks against MY country. they're just stupid. and you can't seriously personally blame me for the massacre of the native americans. (or whatever)

  • english is no more his than it is yours. neither of you created it.

  • Jordy sound like a germand Porn star.

    Yaaaaaa

  • Voice dubing is cheap. The borg in english sound like they are thousands. In french, german etc... it sound like they are 2 ou 3.

Or maybe they are only 2 or 3 borg that can speack german. hahaha

    Vive la révolution!

  • since I am a german native speaker, i never wondered why the borg are speaking german. but now, it sounds very strange when they speak italian! just imagine you're voyaging through space, you meet the Borg, and they are talking to you in italian! LOL

  • BWAH! @ german Wesley. XD

  • i agree...however wesley sucked in general didn't he? i hated that guy

  • the French wasn't very good because the borg didn't sound like borg they sounded like a human over a speaker.

  • Well, obviously it lacks polish version.

  • I think that the english and german versions are the best.

The french, spanish and italian versions don't sound that good but they're funny.

PS: This is not supposed to be an offense against anyone who likes french, spanish and italian.

  • Davvero carina questa Babele intergalattica.

    ("good, gut, beau, bueno, bello")

  • The German star trek is best. Star Trek is better in the original German :)

  • Interesting... Picard in German has been given a rrrrolled R accent, the others a 'guttural' R. Why? Is it supposed to highlight his background, which differs from the other characters?

The breathy French woman does Troi rather well.

  • Sometimes the voiceactor doing Picard in german overpronounces words to reflect Picard as a very strict and disciplined man. Thats when th r is rolling so much. So its not about his background. The only character in the german version of Trek who ever had an accent was Checkov.

  • Vielen herzlichen Dank!

  • The rolling r was widespread in Germany before the war for actors and recitation... This was omittted later because it sounded too artificial (which is true). But of course it still used as style element among many others to specify certain dubbed characters...

BTW Picard is not pronouncing this r at all here.

  • The Borg in french sound really weird.

  • LaForge sounds like a kid in French. I mean, Wes [the French version] sounds older than him. The German fellow dubbing Data did a pretty good job imitating Spiner. The Spanish dub threw me a bit, because I'm accustomed to the Latin American dub [which is usually either Mexican or Colombian] and the Spanish accents sounded weird [and LaForge again sounds like a kid!].

  • The Mexican spanish dub is definetly the best one. The Spain accent sounds weird.

  • Its not "Mexican Spanish" but Spanish from Spain, and yes they do sound odd. But thats how they speak.

  • I'm swiss german, i like the original and the german voices the most of course xD

I think that the french language isn't made for films and television, cause it just sounds weird (borg voice lol) ^^

  • The italian DVD version is a bit faster than the original tv version. I don't know why

  • @wildweaselxp (I know, it is porpably not really usefull to answer to a 2 year old post)

Like the German version, the Italian Dub was propably done at the show's original framerate (more or less). The DVD's framerate is 4% higher

  • It's always fun to hear things in different languages. Thanks for posting this!

  • Strange... The French version sounded different in my memory. Geordi's voice, for exemple, was not that high pitched.

  • The Spanish Borg sound like Marvin the Paranoid Android from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

  • in the german version riker's voice is louder when he's close to the camera.

the italian is good, but the voices are a bit soft.

  • wow unbelievable how fast that all sounds in italian. kinda flat and without soul and empasis though, must be the synchro. rated from best to worst: original-german-spanish-italian-french

    imo.

  • I wouldn't want to f**k with the German Enterprise, they sounds scary!

  • jaja, it´s always the same old story -.-

  • I like the german translation more. Well, I am German, but you can hear feelings better with the german translation.

  • Where did I say that I don't like the original? I never said that, learn reading! It's so simple!

  • The French dub of the Borgs isn't as good as the others. They should have more machine-like voices... Anyway, thanks for comparing these 5 different versions. :-)

  • I like the Spanish dub and thankfully the borg in the italian dubbing gone better in Voyager

  • lol :) fin de saison 3.... greetings from a french Trekkie :))

  • It's good! :) If you can, you should do this in other European languages. :D For example: Danish, Hungarian, Polish, Finish, Russian... :D

  • that would be perfect but i don't have those versions

  • It's nice. :D You should do this in other european languages. :D Hungarian, serbian, polish, finnish, russian. :D

  • Haha, wicked! Kind of confusing..

  • Next time use a spanish redubbing of Latin America. It's better than the one from Spain.

  • I might be biased [not being from Europe], but I agree. The Latin American dub usually does a much better job at imitating the original cast, which I prefer.
