  • nice tutorial

  • great video very helpful thanks.

  • you rotate the allen key anticlockwise mate.. great video otherwise

  • @wetherhills he did rotate anti, but said clockwise.

  • hi, great video, I have just had to do this but set it all up and fitted the belt, but the engine will not turn all the way over. any idea why?

  • when changing the sensor (camshaft position sensor) make sure you replace the o-ring on it as well and give the sparkplugs a good clean while you are there make sure the battery is disconected first and also give a good blow on the coil packs

  • wheres a camshaft sensor on one of those engines ?????????

  • @norabudgie under the plastic cover on top of the engine

  • @HANSONMEDIAUK yea i thought so . my k series 1,4 dont rev past 5 or 6 k . its had the ecu checked , lots of sensors checked, im going to renew the camshaft sensor , any tips ?

  • I would also recommend replacing the water pump at the same time. They don't last forever either.

  • wich tool did you use to lock the flywheel??

  • from what i remember k series only comes with chain not belt....or els it can be k series for other cars.......

  • Great video!! Thank you!!!

  • were did you get the camshaft's locking tool from?

  • It's best not to buy a car with that stupid K series in the first place. A ROVER training

    bloke told me that ...

  • Its easy with the engin out!

  • that will last another 500 miles till the head gasket goes again!!!

  • This is the best demo of how to change the cambelt. (with auto tensioner). I have just changed mine today and wish I had seen this video before doing the job as had real problems with the tensioner. Also I advise you do the change with the cam wheels locking tool.

    Many thanks

  • Timing up a cambelt is the easiest job in the world provided you have locking tools, it would have been better if the engine was in the engine bay, half of the job is gaining access to the side of the engine. It's not a bad video but still like torquing center bolts on tensions is stupid, 25NM is less than an arms tension and any real mechanic has mechanical judgement. He forgot to add when cranking the engine over twice do it clockwise

  • Excellent video - thanks for sharing.

  • tensioner location - why does he say at 6:03 rotate it clockwise, when he is rotating it in the opposite direction

what is the correct tensioner location? allen ky hole up or down?

  • k series dont have belt it has a cain!!!!

  • @nuni0187 its a K-series ROVER, not Honda ;)

  • hey your compressor is much quieter than ours

  • Ive just changed my cylinder head, its abit more tricky with the engine still in the car. Your tip about putting the tensioner on after the belt was a real help, cheers, good vid.

  • That was a brilliant video thank you very much!

  • is it safe to not use the time belt cover so you can show off those cam gears =)

  • Comment removed

  • Is that the same as a zetec engine??

  • nice video!!!

  • any chance u could nip round mine and do that to my rover 200? my pissin belt snapped on me the other day n now its sittin outside me house dead as a door nail n im just fuckin depressed. good film tho

  • You should also change the water pump, for the few pounds they cost - it stops further problems which will mean a new cambelt and tensioner again!

Wear gloves too, if you contaminate the belt with oil or dirt from your hands it will eventually cause problems and snap it. Oil and belts do not mix.

It would have been more use showing how it is done with the engine IN the car!

  • Brilliant informative vid. Thanks very much for posting.

  • is it hard to do it while the engine inside the hood??

  • why would you even bother with that

  • makes it easy as the engine is on a table! we explained though

  • what's a cam balt? lol

  • With the correct tools, on an MGF/TF this takes about two hours, and then probably less to put everything back on. Do it the same way the video does it, don't cut corners!!!

Also, some Kseries have a 'manual' tensioner. You have to rotate the crank once to get it to the correct tension.

If you can't get the crank pulley bolt off. Take the starter out, and then jam a pair of long nose pliers down the back (making sure you don't lose them down then).

  • he makes it look soooo easy...

  • wow he removed the crankshaft pulley with one hand... very magical....

  • very helpfull thanks.

  • howdy. friend of mine has snapped timing belt on 95 celica. does that mean the engine is f**ed?

  • If it's an interference design engine he may well be.

  • turned out to be a collapsed water pump.. not so bad, shes back on the road now. cheers

  • Hi baracus, can you check out my problem with my rover, I think it's something to do with either the PAS belt or the PAS tensioner. Any ideas?

Nice to see a Dub on here too ;)

  • Great Video and Info. How hard would this be with the engine still in the Car?.Can it be done?.

  • How do you lock the crank shaft if the engine is still fitted and thus the flywheel is inaccessible?

  • theres usually an access hole in the crankcase for a drill bit or locking tool.

  • Put it in fourth gear and put the handbrake on and get someone to put their foot on the brake.

  • @tomkinsben Remove starter and use locking tool on starter ring.

  • Superb video... own a K series.. thanks for posting

  • could you do one on the fiesta zetec engine DOHC.?

  • where is the water pump?

  • ignoree this coz i just saw it

  • Silver thing below the tensioner.

  • i think the vw group copied the tentioner puley system from this rover engine, i see it looks the same as vw polo 1.4 and 1.6 94-

  • nice vid mate!

    keep it up ;)

  • wat happens when it snaps

  • if your lucky you will just bend some valves :)

  • @Baracus123 What if you're unlucky?

  • thanks alot mate!

  • I wish more engines were chain drive, these cam belts are a pain in the arse :>/

  • Do chains need any maintenance at all?

  • No,not really.I think they need an oil feed to keep them lubricated but that's about it.

  • Thanks mate!

  • hey were can i get that camshaft locking tools at?

  • good job.

    thanks for posting.

    post more plz.

  • iap

  • Good of you to mention keeping the belt taught on the opposite side from the pulley. I imagine a fair few DIY jobs come a cropper here, or if they're lucky some disassembly would be required.

  • I need to find out where the timing marks line up on twin cam shaft sprockets. for replacing cam belts on my y reg 1.6 16v Vw Bora. Does anyone know where i can find this information? Thanx

  • Yeah hopefully. thanx for ur help mate.

  • Hi iv got a 1.6 16v vw bora and its broken. iv noticed its gt 2 cam belts a large 1 and a small 1, its the small 1 that has gone. will this still bend valves wot not. or is it a easier job to do? Thanx

  • It's still capable of bending valves on various cars, it depends how much clearence there is between valves and pistons, hopefully you will get away with it.

  • @Baracus123 Wow,talk about a ten minuit job! I have a question, how many miles can a K series cam belt do before you have to change it? I have just bought a Rover 214 (wedge shape,Jan '96) and it's done 25k since the last belt change......does it need replacing?? Thanks for any advice you can give.

  • KEEP IT UP MAN THANKS

  • Probably the worst engines ever made. I used to work in a recon shop and we cud have made a living on K-series alone. The ultimate pig of the bunch was the VVT. Even the local Rover dealer wudnt touch them.

  • try doing it as easy on an MGF! Horrible job!

  • yep not a nice job on a f/tf. I did it on my tf160 :(

  • the cylinder head gaskets are crap on all of the K-Series engines, they aint to bad to do on any front engined rover, piece of piss actually, but get it on an MGF, not good! there is always 1 bolt on the inlet mannifold that you cannot get at! the worst cambelt i have done is an audi V8 Diesel! 2 cambelt tensioners on those buggers, thats after pulling the front of the car apart to actually get at it ("service mode" as the VAG call it!!!) cars are a pain in the ass! y im a mechanic i don't know

  • @jimboss1986 just doing it on mg tf. engine is out off car ;-) fuukin job

  • @jimboss1986 You think that's bad, you should try this on the Lotus Elise. There is about an inch of space between the crankshaft pulley and the chassis! Good video Baracus. Came in handy.

  • @CosmicTen I have done one on an Elise, I changed the Cylinder Head Gasket, I must admit it was rather fun!

  • Hi guys (probably you'll know better than me),when you change your cam belt do you need remove all the engine from the car?sorry for the ignorance.thank you

  • No the engine doesn't need to come out to replace the cam belt :)

  • thanks buddy :)

  • very handy mate, i have been given a rover 200 and i don't know if it has ever had a belt changed and if it snapps = bendy valves. favourited!!

  • vey handy thanks

  • Very informative

  • Very helpfull and well done. thank

  • Very good :)

  • great video - as fitted to Rover cars

  • it's not a vvc engine

  • It's how i downloaded it myself a while ago, title changed :)

  • Interesting, thanks.
