Wow, the business end of that thing looks like it would be the perfect "cave" for Osama bin Ladin to hide in. lol. I can picture it now: "wait for it. wait for it. ok quick, he got in it...start the countdown!!"
How much longer are we going to rely on this Cave-man, thermal expansion method of putting man into space, when there is an alternative method to choose from, in the form of internal dynamics?
@BlueSwifts LH2/LOX is used for liquid fueled rockets not solids like this. It uses a paste that includes a solid oxidizer (grain) and fuel (a derivative of aluminum as far as I can remember).
@Indianmalujl ....to set the course for launching a satellite that will help with billions of dollars of communication, save billions of dollars from destruction by weather forecasts, and possibly save entire humanity by exploring options of colonizing Mars. :P
@subh1 meh its about time we spend money on actually finding a more efficient way to do this. Like space elevator haha :D Agree with you, but lets go back to the moon again before going to Mars. p.s. I'm an Aero major -_-
The initial ignition must put alot of stress/shock on the system, I wonder if they can slow that down to a second or so, instead of going from 0 to 100 in a fraction of a second. It was awesome though.
they might... the constellation program may be stalled but that doesn't mean they can't use the technology they developed for it on other projects down the line.
