Hey i read all the chapters of 20th CB but since it was quite confusing, who was the second friend? I know the first was Fukubei, but I'm not sure who the second is. Is it that Katsuta guy that committed suicide? (Can't remember his name, sorry if spelled wrong)

You'd have to read the follow up manga 21st Century Boys to find out who the second friend was. Even then, it's kind of confusing.

Which is true, but the reader doesn't find out who he is until the close to the end of 21st Century Boys.

You find out his name but not who he is. But really you don't need to know. All the information you need to know about his is shown. Whether you see his face or not isn't really important.

I really like the way Urasawa did that. The man really is a genius mangaka.

If you really paid attention to every detail, you kind of know who he is. His name was mentioned once or twice in 20th Century Boys during the random flashbacks to Kenji and groups' childhood.

You are right of course. He is mentioned a couple of times and actually it's quite fitting when all is said and done. It really shows that during childhood, someone can go completely unnoticed.

It's also fitting how the rumor about Sadakiyo also applied to him. He was more of a copy of Sadakiyo than Friend when it came down to it.

Better production values? It's the most expensive Japanese made to date. You have to keep in mind that this isn't a Hollywood movie, and the film industry does not have as much money to throw into projects.

It's only the most expensive movie because it's being made as a trilogy. If you divide that by three that's what each of these movies actually costs (ie about 2 billion yen each).

I've seen plenty of Japanese movies and really it's only the live action manga that end up looking like they have low production values .

It looks like its being made as a demo to western movie companies so they can remake it with hollywood actors.... as bad as that sounds, its preferable to typical zero budget/rushed japanese crap film.
