I think that the Crowley issue is exaggerated: he wasn't a satanist, he just believed that man was the only God, so all the restrictions (included sex restrictions...but why must everything be about sex?) were pointless. At that time there weren't hippies yet, and Christian religion was very strong, and consequently he was marked as a pervert. Moreover, most rumors sprang when he was in Sicily, and I wouldn't trust these kind of rumors. (I'm Sicilian myself, I know what i'm talking about..)

Christianity is mainly seen as a Monotheistic religion. However, take note on the Patron Saints (Patron Saint of Healing, Finding lost things, Miracles, etc.) That's automatically polytheistic in nature.
And while Hinduism, Ancient Greek beliefs, Paganism all call to different Deities... Does that really make them any different from each other?
