  • flamenco*

  • How good would it be to stumble across these two busking in the street

  • AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • metal up your ass ahahhahaahahhahaha

  • Amazing art work

  • @tivo12 :

First thanks for this video. Second "flamingo" is a stupid pink bird; you ment "Flamenco", and there is not a single note from flamenco spanish music inside Rodrigo and Gabriela style.

  • @erparom

It's not only the notes but the technique..

Gabriela's strumming technique is a flemenco technique :)

  • Rodrigo does some nasty sweeps as well as any shredder I've ever seen. He's really good.

  • @YannickGuitarist

Never really noticed to be honest!

    I'm half arsed shredder xD

Know enough to get me around but not enough to stand out and sweeping is definitely a weak point.

  • @erparom HAHAHAHAAHAHAHHAH "STUPID PINK BIRD" MADE MY DAY X'D

  • the change at 1.17 is epic

  • Does anyone know the name of the song played towards the end?

Around the 5th minute I think.

  • @6eggs5soldiers The tune at around 5 mins is Take 5 by Dave Brubeck Quartet

  • eargasm!!!

  • FlaMETALLICO.

Now let's call the whole thing off/awsome.

  • Mexican people are some of the most friendly, genuine, and hospitable people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. Viva Mexico

  • i like flamingos

  • "Flamingo" is a bird, ..not a classical spanish guitar style thats "Flamenco".....and if you study them, they incorporate ALL of that and metal theory into their songs.

  • *flamenco

  • I refuse to waste time labeling music. As Duke Ellington once said; "if the music sounds good, it is good."

  • i love flamingo music :D pinker the better

  • that was awesome thanks for sharing

  • Used to watch them busk in Dublin every weekend. How times have changed.

  • @Mcmotherfuckingrory same here but ther are still sum very talented buskers in dublin

  • this is not flamenco...it's metallica! gabriela y rodrigo are influenced very heavily by heavy metal, and it shows when u see their covers of metallics, megadeath, pink floyd, etc. the have no style, they are their own style and it is beautiful!

  • @davidrh6373 Just fuck off...Metal is socially unacceptable

  • @AdamScadAdam very compelling argument. have u even taken a class past 3rd grade? you sir, are socially unacceptable.

  • Comment removed

  • @AdamScadAdam

Considering these guys were a unrecognized heavy metal band they switched to acoustic to get more publicity, they still are heavy metal just in a different way.

  • @pentallideath001 hmmmm..... I smell bullshit

  • @AdamScadAdam hes half right. they met in a heavy metal band, and then decided to go on their own, acoustically.

  • 5:49. pure bliss.

  • this is actually music ,very special and unique music, those that dont like inovation have no taste.....or jealous of those of us that have.

  • if Metallica was Spanish...

  • Comment removed

  • this isnt even calssical guitar its rodrigo y gabriela and it aint flamenco either for those ignorant haters

  • @have you ever heard of apocalyptica listent to them cover of metalica

    regards from poland ;)

    that is great cover too

  • Just enjoy it dude,....it's great to see people just playing cool tunes.....or would you rather they threw bombs?/

  • Why are people even calling this Flamenco at all? This is much closer to Gypsy Jazz than to Flamenco. I can see Django Reinhardt's influence here. The only thing remotely related to flamenco in Rodrigo y Gabriela is Gabriela's rythmic part which is actually Rumba derived, that some purists don't even consider to be Flamenco at all.

  • @ianrkav I don't want to be a stickler and I don't know much about flamenco, but from the little I do know, it is my understanding that to be considered flamenco, the music should be played in compás, which is really a matter of the time signature and rhythmic structure, not about the strumming/picking techniques. Rodrigo & Gabriela have repeatedly stated that they don't care what you call their musical style as long as you don't call it flamenco... because, as they say, it is not flamenco.

  • Yeah, they'll tell you that ain't "flamingoes."

That is Rod y Gabi. Awesomeness in human form.

  • To be considered Flamenco, they should be playing compás, which is not what Rodrigo & Gabriela play. They are not playing Flamenco style in their songs, in general.

  • @doppelganger137 Compás? Do you mean the four ingredients of Flamenco, Cante, Toque, Dance and Palmas?

  • Playing an air guitar at 2 am after a very, very hard day is one of the best things a song can do. This one did it. Love it! Thanks!

  • its flamenco noobs

  • @XxSedyanxX

    It's "it's",newb!

  • May be "Flametal"

  • Is this "heavy menco"?

  • these guys should so do the music for elevators

  • sencillamente : " :') "

  • Thumbs up if you scrolled back through the comments to see what "MatigazAko" originally said

  • szenzációs mix! a metál és a jazz alaptételei egybekelnek!

  • i dont know why people dislike or make fun of mexicans they really have a great cultural backround great music and love their foods plus theyre kinda built for going fast and small dextorous hany work such as the guitar eaither way what im getting too every race has interesting backrounds that we can all respect :-:-: METAL UP YOUR ASS!!!

  • @Thesupernoma:

Thanks for your words. I'm from the same city as R & G and I love them. But we are not (every mexican) built for small dextorous hany work. Plus If I listen to someone making fun of mexicans or disliking us, you know well, I'll just laugh (and kick their racist little balls if any of them gets in my way).

  • @Thesupernoma Its probably because they don't know any actual Mexicans and are just going by stereotypes, or they do know actual Mexicans and are bigots.

  • @Thesupernoma THANKS FROM MEXICO DUDE!!!!!.........METAL UP YOUR ASS!!!

  • flamenco penguin whatever.. if you and yer buddy can't play this then sell yer shit!

  • owowowowoowow genial!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Of all the silly things to start a fight over -- let's find the middle way and call it spanish guitar. Then everyone will get the vibe and the style in one go. There. Now let's enjoy the music :)

  • Mexican POWER....!!!

  • RyG pretty much say they hate when people call thier music flamenco... just a fyi

  • 5:47- 6:27 just beautiful....

  • @gtarszzz You know if it's improvised or is it another cover. Would love to get the original if it exists.

  • @SuperKaptajnen yes!!! but i think they just jammed that one

  • hay que disfrutaloto

  • Cover from The stolen ones...

  • AND a cover of "Take 5" @ 4:00...2 covers in one!

  • buena misica

  • Metallica sounds awesome in this style! Love the Flamenco influences.

  • its like the 17th century version of one

  • VIVA MOROCCO <3<3

    METALLICA MOROCCAIN FAN'S

  • i don't want to sound like a hippy but why is the top rated comment somewone slating another person? top rated should be more like TheQTwolf 'sublime'.

  • Beautiful stuff. Some of the greatest guitarists on the planet are flamenco. I'm so glad I found these two. I would definitely go to see them play live

  • Can someon post ONE'S chords Pleaaase =)

  • @erickhcabrera SI TIENES RAZON,CADA QUIEN ESCUCHA LO QUE BIEN PARECE..PERO BUENO, ESTO ES BUENA MUSICA Y ESCUCHARLO EN EL LUGAR DONDE UNO DESEE ES BUENO..!!!SALUDOS DTB

  • flamingo music is my fav. the mexicans are great at it

  • Sublime!

  • "Flamingo" are a large bird of the genus Phoenicopterus. The flamingoes have webbed feet, very long legs, and a beak bent down as if broken. Their color is usually red or pink. The American flamingo is Phoenicopterus ruber; the European is Phoenicopterus antiquorum... Flamenco is a genre of music and dance which originated in the southern Spanish region of Andalusia in the 18th century.

  • @Boborvi you so wiki'd that didnt you

  • @raiyankhan yes it was well wiki'd. I confess that I actually copied and pasted, but I already knew the difference between Flamingo, Falmenco and Flamengo (traditional Brazilian football club). lol

  • @Boborvi you sir, are a legend!

  • @Boborvi Wow Captain helpful! Although not an Ornithology post nor is it a grammar/spelling bee. Just listen to the talent of the musicians please. I do appreciate how smart you are as I'm sure the rest of the YT community that navigated to this page does.

  • @Boborvi So.. Mr.Smartass where is Andalusia?

I mean.. i know where is Andaluzia or Andaluzia...

  • @Boborvi all true but flamingo are born white. they get their pigment from their strict diet of shrimp and crayfish

  • que vacaneria nunk avía escuchado algo tan vacano en acustik

  • que vacaneria nunk avía escuchado algo tan vacano en acustik

  • "flamingo" lol

  • "We do not play a specific genre but a mixture of many different genres. People can describe our music as they wish as long they don't say Flamenco 'cause our music is definitely not Flamenco" - Rodrigo y Gabriela

  • flamenco is the spanish word for flamingo, too, somebody told me yesterday. i think its just a joke... everybody is so aggressive... wtf...

  • 3:31 :) <3

  • jajaja no pss sii flamingo jajajjajaja

  • flamingo is cool hahahahah really!!! flamenco too!!

  • Call it whatever you like, I call it awesome

  • Holy shit this is Fuckin awsome, i hate it when bands try to play metallica, but very few bands can pull it off, and these two are one of those bands

  • imagine with distortion holy shit !!!!! kicked major ass

  • Cool, but..

Yeah, for sure is not flamenco, which by the way is not a guitar style but a music style, which is most frequently associated with guitar.

While Rodrigo and Gabriela do use some flamenco guitar tecniques (some, there are pretty much dozens, flamenco has a very long history and evolved over the centuries), they don't play the compas, which are the very specific series of accents which makes flamenco, well, sound like flamenco.

By the way, R&G don't claim to be playing flamenco, AFAIK

  • The metal is a tecnique used in metal music...because is cool.

  • I would love to get this on cd

  • @Jinxerz0107092 Whisky in the Jar is not from Metallica it is a cover asshole ¬¬

  • dude thats sounds like a flamingo if i've ever heard one..

  • Impresionante, que bien tocan...

  • Anyone know where I can find tab for this? Rodrigo's part, at least? I know you can get the original Metallica One tab just about anywhere, but even before these two get into the Take 5 section, they diverge in significant ways from the original.

  • Awsome!!

  • I think Rodrigo y Gabriela should do a cover of Metallica's cover of Thin Lizzy's cover of the Irish folk song "Whisky in the Jar". What do you think?

  • @rolandocbf meh

  • @8Zeitgeist

Zeitgeist is a collective mass of bullshit theories and anyone who takes to heart anything in that video is attempting to appear intellectual. Rememeber, all theories in Zeitgeist rely on the validity of the previous theory so one flaw messes everything up. And in the process, makes the directors/writers/conspiricy-fools like idiots.

Just saying man. Make your own decisions, don't allow a poorly orchestrated conspiracy theory to influence your beliefs.

  • @rolandocbf does everyone on youtube assume shit without any thought

ive used this name before he released those movies

    you know its a word?

    ..

    anyways ive seen his movies

i agree alot is speculation, but i also think alot of that religous stuff in it is quite true

  • I think Whiskey in the Jar is Metallica's second most overrated and overplayed song, right behind Enter Sandman. One is a close third. Although I must say, I like the Smooth Jazz vibe that's going on during the verses here. Definite switch from the original.

  • If I walked past them when they were busking, I would have given them all my money and stood watching them for hours.

  • Bravo Rodrigo & Gabriela...This is what i call good music..Thank you!

  • Rodrigo's style is fairly pure Western, but if you watch Gabriela's rhythm technique you'll see her playing is almost pure Flamenco. Whatever you call it, it's _good_!

  • if they take some vivaldy or Beethoven they will made it perfectly so discuse about great covering will take a long time :D

  • I thought Take 5 meant it was the fifth take of the song at first, so I got really confused when the second half started and it sounded nothing like One.

  • @JackLeft13 "Take 5" is the name of a piece of music written by Dave Brubeck. It's a notable piece of Jazz music, because it was the first time any composer of Jazz used a 5/4 time signature.

  • @murdelabop Yeah, I know that now. Thanks for the heads-up though, I didn't know the significance of the name.

  • I believe that this is the best cover of a metallica song I have ever heard, besides Rodrigo Y Gabriella's version of Orion.

  • adoro , simplesmente fantasticos :) concegue-se sentir a paixao e o sentimento nas musicas :) parabens

  • ROFL @ video description

  • very nice!

  • thanks for the fyi faggot

  • take five starting from 3:59 :D

  • love it keep rockin

  • puta lufet nito.....

  • Ariba........viva la mexico.........hermosa.

  • fantastic cover

  • thats Rock =) I Hope they are rocking for God.

  • se la rifan

  • these guys are amazing! awesome guitarist and not a mullet in sight!

  • Flamingo is guitar technique, its a finger picking, and gabriella is the one who uses it, rodrigo plays with a pick for the most part.

What amazing players they both are, Just wish i could see it!!!!

  • @g8299 flamingo is a bird that turns pink because of the betacaratine in it's diet. flamenco is a style of music often played on nylon stringed acoustic guitars with a finger style. it is not the only style of music to do this.

  • @g8299 dude its flamenco!

  • Rodrigo and Gabriela play Metallica better than Metallica plays Metallica better than Rodrigo and Gabriela => Infinite awesomeness. Problem, skills?

  • Flamingo music? It's called "FLAMENCO"!! not Flamingo!!! Estupido!!! And FYI, Flamenco is a style/technique in guitar playing.

  • @MatigazAko I'm sure he knows that, hence the "quotation marks." And when people think of Flamenco, they usually think of a genre of music; a pretty awesome one, but in this heavily amplified musical market it is often left in the dust, unfortunately. Thankfully, R & G are here to show us they are not mutually exclusive :D

  • @MatigazAko Paul Gilbert made up flamingo because he couldn't play full flamenco dip shit, so quit talking shit

  • @SpaceCadetSpliff . Stop smoking that Spliff of yourass. No wonder your a SpaceCadet. Too much of that flamingo, you'll turn pink. You think? Que horor por dios por santo, SpaceCadetSpliff unico estupido!

  • @MatigazAko troll

  • @MatigazAko also many other styles.. romba is one

  • @MatigazAko lol i didnt fuly read your comment, lol thats pretty funny that it says that in description!

  • @MatigazAko i think you need to read the description more carefully before you overreact with your comment ""doesnt automatically make it 'flamingo' music AS SOME OF YOU LIKE TO CALL IT" he knows its not called flamingo...

  • @MatigazAko Depends on where your from! in Sweden (my country) We say Flamingo...

  • @caliusblack

Well, fair enough, flamenco and flamingo are just the name for the same bird in different languages, I guess :)

  • @SaldoStagno Yes it is :) Happy your more open minded than the rest of the youtube society xD

  • @MatigazAko umm... still they dont play flamenco. They acually dont like poeple labeling their music and stlyle because its a mix of metal ,latin and ather styles... just to clarify :D

  • @MatigazAko umm... still they dont play flamenco. They acually dont like poeple labeling their music and stlyle because its a mix of metal ,latin and ather styles... just to clarify :D... o and yeah, its flamenco...flamingo is an animal ¬¬

  • @MatigazAko flamenco is not just a guitar tecnique....its a style of music too! (culture mix between spain and morroco) theres loads of flamenco music which doesnt even have guitars...i dont want to sound like one of those stupid youtube users who does nothing else but correct people, i assure u im not! I see we here all like this music...good taste! Peace from spain!

  • @MatigazAko BTW, flamingo is a bird... big purple bird. It's still not sure can this bird play guitar.

  • @vllado2

    ..you mean pink?

  • @MikeGasm I was never sure what is pink, and what is purple. Thanx for noticing.

  • @MatigazAko he was being facetious

  • @MatigazAko actually it is a genre and a technique name as well

  • @MatigazAko yeah i think the guy knows that as he said "as some of YOU like to call it" he doesnt actually think thats what its called, and he also states that having a nylon string guitar doesnt automatically make it flamenco so thanks for your well informed 2 cents but .......... your a dumb ass, and we dont need you to tell us all something we already know, next time read the description!

  • @MatigazAko ahaha

    "FLAMINGO"

    xD

oh man this guy is an ignorant tool!

  • @MatigazAko Ehhm,btw they are not playing Flamenco. ;)

  • @PsychoWahhh yeah but they are very heavily influenced in the flamenco style, but I love there metal covers.

  • @MatigazAko Flamenco is not a techinque, and it isn't just about guitars. It's a genre, like rock or pop.

  • @JavierC89 Pop isn't a genre. Pop is a classification. Pop just comes from "popular" and at the moment consist of soft rock, dance, R&B and anything else MTV wishes to play. When MTV will start playing Rodriga y Gabriela it will become pop. Pop has no constant description and changes with the years. Example: Nirvana was "pop"(ular), but does definitely not qualify as pop anymore, it's way too heavy for the mainstream. As I said: pop is a classification, not a genre.

  • @Arcenicum Pop actually is a genre, albeit the one most susceptible to change since, as you said, it relies on other genres to provide it with its tone. Typically, pop is defined by the structure of its songs, which are straightforward, with traditional hook, verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, etc., limited to three - four minutes. They tend to use synthesizers and clean sounds, all which lead to their mainstream success. Nirvana was popular, but they are not, by that definition, "pop."

  • @MatigazAko irony: Missed

  • As far as the Classical music thing goes. Metallica and thrash in general descended from Punk, NWOBHM, and the originators of metal Black Sabbath who in turn were very blues influenced and all the origins already mentioned. That is very much true. Yet Cliff Burton was classically trained and taught Hetfield and Ulrich much about song structures. Master of Puppets (the song) is actually structured like a symphony. Fast opening, slower interlude, separate section, and return to the beginning

  • Seeing as how this is a Metallica song they're covering I don't see how calling it metal is exactly wrong. Plus they were very in thrash/heavy metal before starting down this path. As far as their exact playing style its not really Flamenco its (I believe they've said this ) they're own style possibly cobbled together from others.

  • @5stringdriver Ffs. Lighten up lol

  • this is sick

  • Had the pleasure of seeing them some years ago live - they play Metallica better than Metallica play Metallica. Love them so dearly

  • It is the Rodrigo y Gabriella Genre ... they defy categorization.

  • Go read their biography and tell me they are not metal.

    :p

  • I am soooo tired of people saying this is metal. This isn't metal. This is Flamenco & Gypsy. Not Gypsy jazz, Gipsy jazz, Gipsy Kings, but Flamenco & REAL Gypsy style. Watch some real Gypsies play. Django, Joscho Stephan, Jimmy Rosenberg, etc. etc. etc. This is very similar.

This isn't metal. Hair whipping back and forth does not make it metal.

  • Acoustic / Folk Rock / Metal is what they label themselves

  • I love these guitars !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Seriously... how can you NOT like this??
