Deepak wants to make everything so deep and profound and Sam Harris is saying that can be explained by the brain functions. Nobody ever wants to look at the reality of shit and they just want to make everything magical. ACCEPT THE FUCKING TRUTH
Deepak is a charlatan making half baked truth and trying to fool folks. Nothing wrong with speculating - but at least admit that that's what you're doing.
@ZEDSTODT2 Chopra claims that subjectivity is not a product of the brain when all the evidence tells us it probably is. How the hell do you say he has a greater understanding of any of these matters than Harris? Chopra just says nice words and lets you off the hook with actually thinking clearly about this stuff!
@MrDarkbloom Because Harris has an ulterior political agenda. The inordinate amount of time he spends attacking Theism is deeply suspect & his claims that he can prove God is a myth is nothing less than a fraud.
@ZEDSTODT2 Your reliance on unfounded ad hominems is quite revealing. It shows that you do not understand this topic, nor do you even wish to. You only wish to rationalize that which you wish to believe.
@ZEDSTODT2 "Because Harris has an ulterior political agenda." Oh please shut up. Seriously. You can put whatever agenda you want on him...doesn't get around his philosophical arguments as exhibited here brilliantly. You're either an extreme right-winger who hates him for his godlessness or your an extreme left-winger who hates him for a couple of passages about torture in his first book. From that you've extrapolated a huge conspiracy. Just go away. And read more books.
@sleepcity Of course you & Harris are "experts" on all Exotericism & Esotericism eh? The fact that you want to silence dissenters is proof of my assertions. Obviously youre an easy sell if you claim that Harris BS is "brilliant". Its quite the opposite.
@ZEDSTODT2 What did Harris say that was FACTUALLY wrong when he disagreed with Chopra? I haven't seen you counter anything he has actually said with an argument. I told you, as far as we know, our consciousness seems to come from the brain - when the brain dies, consciousness does to. It's a well-known human cognitive trait to over-detect agency in the world and much more... What can you actually say against this?
@flutterandwow You can hew & haw all you wish but I saw my brothers ghost when he died so I already know consciousness doesnt end after death. I cant prove it (unless I could remember what he told me, perhaps under hypnosis) but I know what I saw.
@ZEDSTODT2 Yes, I thought so. You apparently have nothing serious to contribute to these discussions. I'm sorry your brother died (if that's true), but your experience doesn't at all mean ghosts exists apart from in your mind. There are a lot of hard-working, smart scientists trying all their lives to find evidence of the paranormal, but guess what... NOTHING. You are probably mistaken. Learn to accept how fallible we are to reasoning and try not to fool yourself.
@flutterandwow Oh I could contribute volumes if I had the time but I have my daughter to take care of which is yet another reason I resent the fact that some stooge like Harris wastes his life attacking religion as if he has some kind of moral authority when the reality his motives are purely political. That deviance is the very antithesis to the freedom of thought that he so ostensibly claims to espouse. And my vision of my brothers ghost was not simply an illusion.
@ZEDSTODT2 I believe, like a lot of people the more we understand about ourselves, the better we can change things. If we don't know how our minds/bodies work, how can we hope to promote health or well-being in humans? Harris is simply trying to stop inaccurate information so that we don't get these things wrong! Tell me ONE thing Harris gets FACTUALLY wrong in this video.
@flutterandwow Which facts really matter? Nothing Harris asserts proves that God is a myth & it isnt a waste of time to research & practice the Gospel of Christ or study the Prophecy. I wont waste any more time listening to him or any other Marxist cohorts who so fanatically suppress Theology on numerous campuses around the world. Ben Steins documentary, "Expelled" exposes the collusion against religion.
@ZEDSTODT2 Which facts matter? ALL OF THEM! The truth matters... A LOT ! Anyway, thanks for completely dodging my question. I am not surprised you are can't answer it. And you calling him Marxist is just about the stupidest 'Tea-Party, God, Guns and Gays' mentality... what planet are you living on? Go back to watching Fox news and leave the grown-ups to talk about the real world. Thanks
@flutterandwow My child, you have come to me, my son. For who now is your father if it is not me? I am the well spring, from which you flow. When I am gone, you will have never been. What would your world be, without me? My son.
@sleepcity That was very well said - you hit the nail on the head about the usual (unthinking) Harris critics! Oh, and did you know that because Harris' mother apparently identifies herself as 'Jewish' that means Harris is a Zionist? hehehe
@MrDarkbloom Yeah, a metaphor for our times. He bowls the unsuspecting, marketing-trained/vulnerable, and scientifically illiterate over with "sciencey" verbiage. Why bother constructing and presenting a long, reasonable, evidence-based argument when you can just badger people with metaphysically loaded statements (designed only to impress the ignorant) and point to their bewilderment at you as proof of the truth of your half-assed arguments?
@ZEDSTODT2 You believe that because you wish to. There is no empirical basis for the notion of a transcendent consciousness. Harris is not reaching for straws. That is an unfounded ad hominem that your ego puts forth in order to allow your logical brain to rationalize that which you wish to believe rather than that which the evidence supports.
its seems as though every single sentence deepak says is subject to criticism. It's OK deepak to just say "I don't know" sometimes. If he think that he knows the stuff he talks about, then he must have a complete picture of all the universal laws of everything and more
l. he says consciousness is not a product of the brain. and id say thats wrong, at least superficial sense.the brain breaks no more consciousness for that "person". but maybe subjectivty, the presence-what is observing the the mental reconstructions of the outside world is happening at a deeper level, . so deep that id say it is non reducible. not consciousness itself but what's experiencing consciousness. the same unified subjective field that all particles also arise from. like a preconscious
@lachezar43 Chopra is famous, and therefore influential. It's important to challenge leaders so that they don't lead people the wrong way. It's just a shame it has to be done in the first place, isn't it?
Is consciousness being produced or received by the brain? Harris is clearly agnostic on the issue, just read the chapter experiments in consciousness in The end of faith and you'll see why whereas Deepak is more staunchly in favour of the latter idea.I thought this was a good back and forth so I'm a bit confused as to all the negativity on here. The claim that consciousness gives rise to all is as Deepak said a metaphysical claim and as Harris rightly said that requires justification as well.
@Prometheus1 Actually I did understand what Chopra was talking, about and I was not happy because I dislike his style quite a lot.So I was happy that Harris understood too and a very nice answer for it ("absolute subjective ignorance... outside your conscience").
@am101171 Now that I can feel normal again ;) for a second, I would submit to Harris that these states are similar to the creative states that artists and scientists go into when they produce their best works for example I would consider that the theory of special relativity came to be supported by something like it, In fact I seem to remember that Einstein did discourse on a letter on this process, saying that he did not quite understand how it really works or something like that.
to the point, subjective experiences can only be, in principle, corroborated, well, subjectively, so the only way you could really corroborate on this type of experience is to do it yourself so to prove it in a close to objective manner you would have to have all ( an statistically significant sample of the 7 billion%?) people experiencing and communicating hose experiences in more or less the same manner and even words, to avoid the risk of loosing the objectivity of it,make sense?
I think Chopra would prefer it if the Englightenment had not happened, and that people like Einstein, Newton and Feynman had never existed. Then he'd be top dog still. I've listened to him, but his words don't appear to relate to anything real, measurable or rational. He gets angry when questioned, too.
Over and over, with words ike "psychobabble, meaningless, clueless, nonsense," I see people dismiss Chopra as a quack, while in the same sentence, confessing that they do not understand what he is saying. That is irresponsible. (One could dismiss all of science on the same grounds before ever studying any of it.) His words, once understood, make clear statements about the nature of reality, that are either correct or incorrect, can be argued, and in some cases, tested empirically.
Sam Harris is one of Scientism. He thinks science can control peoples lives. Are you sad? Well here, let's put some patches on your head and trick your brain into being happy! He's one who would want to advance the pill-popping lifestyle we have to all of our problems, even if the pills may be insufficient for longing.
Not that I'm a theist, but this guy has an agenda. Every person does.
@junskey Baseless in what way? In one of his books he goes into depth on how we can use science to trigger reactions in the brain to stimulate happiness. I'm quite sure there are people out there who think such therapies as well as pills will solve everyone's problems, which is what I was talking about.
The audacity of us human beings to even try to discern the existence of a GOD is extremely arrogant, since we do not have the mental intellect or capacity to do so in the first place.....so keep contemplating nonsensical conjectural debate with more and more non-provable rhetoric!
@jaggerlags (1) WRONG. Look into the secret societies that these same politicians calling for a New World Order are apart of. They are Luciferian occultists with an agenda to abolish all spiritual and religious aspects of society to then usher in the antichrist who will rule over mankind through a tyrannical Luciferian one-world government. (This is their demonic religious belief and agenda.)
@jaggerlags (2) But first, they have to construct a global secular society. Look at the back of a 1-dollar bill. They hide their symbolism in plain view. You see the Illuminati pyramid with the Freemasonic all-seeing eye at the top (aka the "eye of Lucifer"). Underneath, it reads "novus ordo seclorum," which is latin for a "new secular order." Above the eye, it reads "annuit coeptis" which means "he favors our undertaking." ... "He" being Lucifer.
@jaggerlags (3) Please, I urge you to look into the nefarious Luciferian religious beliefs of the politicians & elites currently running our world. Watch YouTube documentaries: "The Age of Evil" & "Lucifer god of the Illuminati." They will explain it to you much better than I can. Also, do a search for the New World Order & one-world government.
Watch videos of our politicians calling for a "new world order" at:
h t t p : / / 911truthseeker . webs . com / thenewworldorder . htm
@jaggerlags "No one will enter the New World Order unless he or she will make a pledge to worship Lucifer. No one will enter the New Age unless they will take a Luciferian initiation."
--David Spangler, Director of Planetary Initiative, United Nations
(Quoted from his book "Revelation: The Birth of a New Age," pg 64)
@jaggerlags "Satan and his rebellious host will thus prove to have become the direct Saviors and Creators of divine man. Thus Satan, once he ceases to be viewed in the superstitious spirit of the church, grows into the grandiose image. It is Satan who is the God of our planet, and the only God."
--H.P. Blavatsky, highly-respected Illuminati occultist and author of "The Secret Doctrine."
(Quoted from her book: "The Secret Doctrine," pg 215)
BTW Sam Harris deeply practised meditation for years and had used some known drugs to get those subjective expierences. so the guy knows what he is talking about.
"So das da thought create da molecule or de molecule create da thought, are they simultaneous expressions of a deepa transcendant reality, that we're inseperable?"
^
Anyone who applauds that has a serious cognitive problem
Is anybody else freaked out that the human species has evolved to the point where we can even understand these concepts, let alone debate them? We're a weird, freaky animal, man.
Wow, to be honest I finally get Deepak's angle. He's taking all the bullshit religious people made up and using it against them. The only people that will appeal to him are people that are predisposed to subjective thinking. He is basically inventing a new religion and, boy, does it actually work! If you want to feel empowered then just take Deepak at his word. But only atheists can see the sham since we are too skeptical to not take even subjective experience as the end of understanding.
Sam Harris - 'neuroscientist' who believes inanimate matter created life and ultimately human consciousness. Consciousness is energy. Energy is infinite. He places matter over mind. Harris is a common institutionalized preacher cashing in on religious beliefs of gullible Atheist faithful.
Atheism is a religion by definition, concerning the origin, nature and purpose of existence. It teaches that existence created itself, inanimate matter created life, and all is unintended purposelessness.
@onefodderunit You are lying. I as a non believer simply answer "I don't know" to these question. My non god belief does not come with the requirement of evolution belief, self causing existence, self evolving or creating infinite nature. How could possibly non belief cause you to believe other stuff. How is that possible. Refer to me where atheism makes you a evolutionist. Did the atheists of the 13th-17th century were also evolutionists even before theories existed?
I have a soul. You're the one without soul. No soul, no integrity.
Atheism is faith that the universe and life are consequences of whatever, as long as it wasn't intelligent. Atheist Orthodoxy is unquestioning rejection of intelligence.
@onefodderunit Why does someone have to give you a soul? Why does it have to be a someone and not something? Why can't inanimate matter create life? Soul could of been a universal standard like gravity or matter. This is the beauty of belief, you can make all kinds of theories and ideas. Knowing if they are right or wrong is another thing.
You insult yourself, Atheist, and I'm not religious. Commonsense and reason are God given gifts, for which Atheists are totally ungrateful, and often ignore as you have demonstrated.
@onefodderunit Which god do you think give people common sense and reason. And in which book can i find ways to celebrate this gift? And second question: why these?
@onefodderunit I think someone who is atheist can be grateful just for being alive. It's strange and wonderful that we happen to be here, but who really knows why? Isn't your god just a proxy, a beaon of hope in all this unknowing?
Please, don't be bashful. A person who knows peace wouldn't be.
People should eat molasses instead of butter. I'm having some on a hot piece of carrot cake and it is delicious.
Atheism is asinine faith that life is unintended byproduct, a pointless consequence of a miraculous incident of inanimate matter turning itself into life. Are Atheists thankful to inanimate matter?
Do you believe there is a technique we could practice that would cause humans to evolve into flying creatures in a few billion years - perhaps flapping our arms and jumping?
@onefodderunit Does it really matter what faith or abstract idea we pledge ourselves to? There are things we can quanitfy, and there are things we can't. No matter what philosophy you choose, it won't make your feelings or thoughts any more real. Being gratful to life itself is enough to enjoy the experience. Truth and faith are not the same.
Also, I suggest taking biology lessons, you angry person.
An Atheist idiot of the faith that inanimate matter turned itself into life is suggesting others take biology lessons. It's suggested you learn the definition of Genetic Homeostasis and the reason why breeders can't change the species of animals after centuries of trying.
@onefodderunit There is no need for faith in anything. There is knowledge and lack of knowledge. I do not need faith, because I am superior to you. I don't make ridiculous assumptions about the origis of life, I assert my ignorance. Unlike you I don't believe in proxy gods miraculously making life out of inconceivables. That's your idiotic belief, and probably the reason for your bad temper.
@onefodderunit What's inanimate, and what's not? I don't exactly know how life happened, but it's more reasonable to believe that the potential for life was built into programming of the universe, rather than it appearing magically out of some supernatural creator's ass. The world is natural. When you propose the supernatural, you propose the impossible. Try to be more logical.
Also, I assert that I'm superior, because it's the truth.
@onefodderunit Well, such a thing would surely be impossible, would it not? The jews had it right. Better assert your own superiority than dealing with inanity.
@onefodderunit Yeah, you're full of shit. Science is the study of the nature of everything, but makes no axiomatic claims about anything.
You, the theist, claim to know there is a "purpose"-- and that you already know the cause of everything with absolute certainty (that it was created by a being that did not need to be created).
The atheist says ONLY that you are full of shit in this claim. You have no proof or logic to back you up. We are calling bullshit on your religion, period.
@mentalphysicalism.."The problem is in our minds in that we need an object.." Is there an specific point in the horizon? seems to me your drivel here too is inconclusive,If according to you both school of thoughts are wrong,in that you outlined or presented reasoning as to why that is, then where a/o what is the alternative solution, cause if you are offering one it seems i completely missed it
If you really think love, forgiveness, and helping others are simply the demand of some neurons, (as if they KNOW what love means!) you have overlooked human! good luck!!
Westen countries only focus on having sex, body, chemicals, drink, eating, parties and bussiness. That is why they cannot tolerate any other realities! That is why their family relationships are not stable! They are lost in life unfortuanetly
I know its deffinetely true that we are not jst the meer rebounding off of what we have. Brain, lips, eyes, reasoning, emotions. And our self is not just the sum up of all this we have as Harris suggests with his philosophy and his bodilly disposition.
And I know its certainly not true that what a person is to other people is just the relative of recognising ones own bodyly total. There is something complete about humans.
At some point you have to have faith. I dont like how Davis is trying to prove that Deepok's experience and belief of truth is wrong. Deepok is one of the best at explaining a possible understanding of our "consciousness". It's kind of like letting yourself brainwash yourself to get to a better happier more fulfilled place. Sam is trying to prove its brainwashing but in doing so isn't helping anyone. He is proving that he knows what the words "objectivity" and "subjectivity" mean though.
Harris argues for Objectivism, which we rely upon for everything from physical safety to law and justice. But Deepak is right about art. No scientific formula explains artistic expression. It is Subjective, chaotic, from the ether. Philosophers and scientists will never understand it. They operate within the confines of language and reason. But the artist and mystic work from a different place.
Here, Ye! This video exemplifies the battle man has had to face from the beginning of time:
The ignorant, the deceptive, the arrogant - balanced against the humble, honest and wise.
No different from any other circumstance, this instance rocks to the core the foundational application of human conduct. Ask yourself which side you strive to be on!
Exactly. Harris is trying to create contention. As for back doors, we live among them. Every argument can be refuted; every refuted statement can be again refuted. This is the beauty of 7 billion minds contemplating our state. Deepak, and the many others, including Jean Houston sitting right next to him, are hardly speculating on this topic. This is intuitive reasoning at its finest, in my opinion.

The suggestion is a humble one. I've no doubt any of you could, or maybe already understand where Deepak is coming from. Just because he may not be capable of public debate does not undermine his perspective. He corrects Harris only in that Harris seems to not want to listen to Deepak and tries to pidgeon-hole the information into sensory data points which is no where near where Deepak is coming from.
@vekunde No. Harris is trying desperately to sift through Deepaks white noise in hopes of arriving at a point of contention; an assertion or statement that leaves nothing hidden between the lines; that leaves no back doors open.
In other words, Harris is trying to identify a common arena in which to pit two opposing idea's against each other.
Harris is unable to do so simply because Deepak's so-called 'world-view' relies purely on speculation and conjecture.
@vekunde How could you watch this and think it was Harris that was in over his head? You might have been the one in over your head and simply mistaken Deepak Chopra's arrogance for wisdom.
He knows. And, he's not even, can't even begin to open up the entirety of it to someone mired in science which can not even begin to quantify and never will the subjective experience or spirit. Jean Houston will tell you the same thing. This goes all the way back. Read. A lot. Then come back and listen again.
What I don't understand about Deepak is why he needs to argue like this? He just needs to say that he doesn't know but that the spiritual (subjective, emotional) side of a person's life is incredibly important. He is being an ass when he tries to sound as if he knows something about the transcendent.
Deepak isn't even secure enough in his ideas to look Sam in the eye while going over them, he's just trying to sway the audience with the same ol' same ol' that sounds nice if you say you're a "guru"
You must have an inordinate tolerance for bullcrap to listen to even a minute of Deepak Chopra. Fortunately, it's my ears that need purging; my mind is unharmed.
you can just identify who is closer to speakingthe truth by analyzing their attitude. dc is so confident and full of himself, he shows no sign of doubt in himself... look at sam harris he thinks before he speaks, he thinks while he speaks, he questions himself again after he finishes speaking. SH ftw
even as an atheist, I have read his books and sort of liked the guy for his demeanor and sense of "zen." After this, I can see he is just selling books to sheep. I don't believe he believes anything he says.
You rarely see Sam Harris frustrated, but you can tell he feels like he's talking to a brick wall in this debate. Deepak is the one being dismissive of facts and using pseudo-intellectual rhetoric to gain a few claps from the audience. Shermer and Harris are the only ones being intellectually honest in this debate. Deepak & Jean are such bullshitters - it's sickening.
The problem is you have someone, whose culture has been of great spiritual awakening importance, and someone who is lead by science and proven discoveries. They clash.
I like Deepok, but he's irritating when he "dances around" the word Consciousness, without ever 'committing' to the word SOUL. Why won't he come right out and say that we are SOUL, a unit of Divine Awareness sent into this world to gain experience, to develop capacity for awareness and love. Everyone here has had many lifetimes, I know because it takes SOUL a long time to develop the intellect capable to carry on these discussions. First lifetimes are very primative. I threw stone spears...
In my first lifetime I was a stone spear! Man those were days! Me and Joey the woodspear shaft had some great times! Oh how we laughed and stayed completely inanimate! Haha!
I lost all credibility for Sam Harris several months ago when I heard him say Objective Morality can exist without a standard external to we humans. It's just not fair: Sam Harris can say that and people take him seriously, but if I say it, I fail my freshman philosophy course.
@ChiefClickClack hey type in shelly cagan vs william lane craig he gives an excellent account for morality from a naturalist point of view that you might find helpful.
@jadagod At the end of the day, it would be a human construct, which makes it subjective. You must have an external standard (independent of human opinion) for Objective Morality to exist. I agree that subjective morals can produce good results, but if someone rebels - they're not Objectively Wrong.
@ChiefClickClack so if aliens choose our moral standard's then it would be objective? surely moral's coming from something non human means there is no obligation at all because it's just there opinion and they ain't even human, same goes for god too.
@jadagod I would imagine that Aliens have subjective opinions just like we humans, so probably not......that's an interesting thought though.......You'd have to ask David Wilcock that question.....lol......I'm no expert on aliens.

Why bother constructing and presenting a long, reasonable, evidence-based argument when you can just badger people with metaphysically loaded statements (designed only to impress the ignorant) and point to their bewilderment at you as proof of the truth of your half-assed arguments?
sleepcity 6 days ago
@ZEDSTODT2 You believe that because you wish to. There is no empirical basis for the notion of a transcendent consciousness. Harris is not reaching for straws. That is an unfounded ad hominem that your ego puts forth in order to allow your logical brain to rationalize that which you wish to believe rather than that which the evidence supports.

Prometheus1df 3 weeks ago
@Prometheus1 Actually I did understand what Chopra was talking, about and I was not happy because I dislike his style quite a lot.So I was happy that Harris understood too and a very nice answer for it ("absolute subjective ignorance... outside your conscience").
am101171 3 weeks ago
@am101171 Now that I can feel normal again ;) for a second, I would submit to Harris that these states are similar to the creative states that artists and scientists go into when they produce their best works for example I would consider that the theory of special relativity came to be supported by something like it, In fact I seem to remember that Einstein did discourse on a letter on this process, saying that he did not quite understand how it really works or something like that.
am101171 3 weeks ago
to the point, subjective experiences can only be, in principle, corroborated, well, subjectively, so the only way you could really corroborate on this type of experience is to do it yourself so to prove it in a close to objective manner you would have to have all ( an statistically significant sample of the 7 billion%?) people experiencing and communicating hose experiences in more or less the same manner and even words, to avoid the risk of loosing the objectivity of it,make sense?

I think Chopra would prefer it if the Englightenment had not happened, and that people like Einstein, Newton and Feynman had never existed. Then he'd be top dog still. I've listened to him, but his words don't appear to relate to anything real, measurable or rational. He gets angry when questioned, too.
andrew2767 4 weeks ago
Over and over, with words ike "psychobabble, meaningless, clueless, nonsense," I see people dismiss Chopra as a quack, while in the same sentence, confessing that they do not understand what he is saying. That is irresponsible. (One could dismiss all of science on the same grounds before ever studying any of it.) His words, once understood, make clear statements about the nature of reality, that are either correct or incorrect, can be argued, and in some cases, tested empirically.

It teaches that existence created itself, inanimate matter created life, and all is unintended purposelessness.
onefodderunit 2 months ago
@onefodderunit Your a fucking moron, atheism is not a religion its a lack of belief fucker.

Religion is defined as concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of existence.
Atheism is faith that existence caused itself, its nature is self-creating, self-evolving, and finite. And, it is faith that existence has no purpose.
Don't be ashamed of your religion, Atheist.
onefodderunit 2 months ago
@onefodderunit You are lying. I as a non believer simply answer "I don't know" to these question. My non god belief does not come with the requirement of evolution belief, self causing existence, self evolving or creating infinite nature. How could possibly non belief cause you to believe other stuff. How is that possible. Refer to me where atheism makes you a evolutionist. Did the atheists of the 13th-17th century were also evolutionists even before theories existed?

Physicalists think that the physical generates the mind and creationist theists think that
a mind generated the physical world. They are both wrong as mind and matter are both
inseperable and neither made the other. The problem is our minds in that we need an object
of our consciousness so we either start with the outer sensory world or we start with our inner
mental world then we make one a secondary concept of the other.
mentalphysicalism 2 months ago
@mentalphysicalism.."The problem is in our minds in that we need an object.." Is there an specific point in the horizon? seems to me your drivel here too is inconclusive,If according to you both school of thoughts are wrong,in that you outlined or presented reasoning as to why that is, then where a/o what is the alternative solution, cause if you are offering one it seems i completely missed it
godof79 2 months ago
@godof79 Mind and matter are objects of our consciousness but each of us
start with only one of them as "primary" upon which we organize our
ideas about the world. Mind is our inner experience and matter is our
outer sensory experience but one does not cause the other anymore
than light causes sound waves in a fireworks explosion. Understanding
this resolves the problem of how thoughts "become" actions and how
physical brains have thoughts.

Seaflowerr 2 months ago
@Seaflowerr I agree with your statement. The difference between mind and matter is sensory in that
we are sensing different aspects of our world that are so different that we think of the inner

analogous to saying that seeing is nothing but hearing.

The suggestion is a humble one. I've no doubt any of you could, or maybe already understand where Deepak is coming from. Just because he may not be capable of public debate does not undermine his perspective. He corrects Harris only in that Harris seems to not want to listen to Deepak and tries to pidgeon-hole the information into sensory data points which is no where near where Deepak is coming from.
vekunde 3 months ago
@vekunde No. Harris is trying desperately to sift through Deepaks white noise in hopes of arriving at a point of contention; an assertion or statement that leaves nothing hidden between the lines; that leaves no back doors open.
In other words, Harris is trying to identify a common arena in which to pit two opposing idea's against each other.
Harris is unable to do so simply because Deepak's so-called 'world-view' relies purely on speculation and conjecture.
