That is a great failing of our legal system and the Unions. It should never be that way. It should be "abuse a child: get fired" and that should be the end of it. @Patriot042 Actually, they sued the school and were awarded around 300K. The teacher was removed from duty, but then they put her back in another district where she mistreated a deaf girl. Of course, this happened two years ago and the video remains as a testament to the damage of bullying of all kinds. But yes, they did take action. Thanks.

Students at any age can be special, like Alex. Sad to say, some schools are better off shut down. Some teachers can't keep up with the times. Though I had better experience in school, when I grew up, though, it was a different story. One neurologists labeled me an "atypical autistic" and social workers in my town later on decided to muscle me out from finding a job all because of my alleged "autism" history.

I have one better for you, child is racially targeted for daily threats which he reports then school and district tell him, in writing, not to go to some of his classes and to only use nurse's restroom. It is ok to use segregation against white kids because he was probably raising the average test scores and costing them Title 1 money. We had to move out of Delaware just to get an equal education regardless of race.

As far as I'm concerned, bad is bad. Have you talked to a federal attorney? Or any attorney? You should be able to hold the district liable for their failure and segregation. I'm sure they'll say they were trying to protect your son, but that was the wrong way to do it. Don't give up, talk to people and even the media if you have to.

I actually used to have a teacher who bullied, not just me, but a few friends of mine cause they were indian in 5th grade. She bullied me cause she thought my work was "Not up to standard" but she bullied them much worse simply because they couldn't speak, in her own words "Perfect English", and I didn't really stand up for them cause I was young at the time and somewhat scared of her. Nowadays, if something like that happened again i'd certainly fight back.

i have too!! in fifth grade, i was slapped across the face by my teacher because i asked what had crawled up her ass and died when she was in a pissy mood...and she hated me, and she went to high school with my mom and because i was my mothers daughter. she actually kept me from most class trips, movies, and any other school activities, saying i didn't have a certain project or work handed in, so i couldn't go. I moved after grade six after i found out she was my teacher for that grade too!!

I was older (9), but similar things happened to me. I was bullied by a teacher and she encouraged other students to bully me. I've always had social and body image problems since then. She's a principal of another school now.

I had a teacher that called me stupid in front of my peers. It was horrifying. I stayed through class, and then when class was dismissed went home and told my aunt who marched up to my school and then went to the deans office and demanded an apology from the teacher. The teacher was embarrased. Two years later when my sister was in his class he remembered me and brought up the incident to her. It did make an impact on him. She hung a big sign around my neck that said "my name is (first and last name) and I ride bus # (whatever number it was)." She did this with the sole purpose of humilating me by getting the other kids to laugh at how "out to lunch" I was in hopes it would make me act more normal I guess. I was so embarassed that I started crying in class and crossed my arms over the sign. Then she let a couple other kids pull my arms apart and hold them open while she took a picture of me.

I think it's utterly shameful to subject an innocent young child like Alex to such emotional cruelty. I hope the teacher responsible does the right thing and apologise, then she should leave teaching forever.

I know what it's like to be humiliated like that in a class, when I was 11/12 my teacher used me as a scapegoat for any problem he had. Now I was lucky because I had the support of my class behind me, Alex evidently did not.

I had a second grade teacher and she was very mean and authoritarian in that she battered me a few times because I did not quite get an assignment done. Also, she chastised me for spitting a piece of peppermint candy in a garbage can. Also, she would get angry if any student wrote over the red margin of our notebook. Bullying is one of the worst problems kids (people) face. There are many ways to handle bullies, such as walk away or talk to an adult - this little boy couldn't do either in that moment. My heart goes out to him.
