Please... 90% of Bulgaria's turning point goals were made by Hristo Stoichkov. It's the same situation. If Bulgaria didn't have hristo stoichkov and Argentina doesn't have Maradona, Argentina would have won. I am Bulgarian by the way so don't think I'm hating. stoichkov made the goals because he got the passes. he doesn't make them on his own. bulgarian team was much better as a team than argentina and i think would have beat Argentina even with maradona - he was washed out coke addict by then. that's my opinion.

well as far as i'm concerned god doesn't exist. i know what u mean though, and stoichkov has such unique qualities, such players come around only once every 50-100 years. especially in a country like bulgaria where the overall standard of football and producing talent is extremely low.
your funny, but i've talked to bulgarian friends, and they tell me nothing but negative things about bulgarian football. with corruption being the common theme. as long as that goes on, bulgarian football will never develop and talented players won't be properly nurtured.
it was corrupt back then also and the developed. corruption is no excuse. talent thrives even under communism we had some of the best teams even under communist system. it has little to do with corruption. FIFA is also one of the most corrupt organizations. bulgarian football is not much different.

The difference is that around them there was not all that media hype - Bonev, Asparuhov and Getov played under communism, Balakov played in a poor vaguely-known provincial team. Stoichkov just had the media idolize him. Otherwise all he had was his speed. Small technical skill, no skill at headers, no skill to create a goal situation, but only to use such.
