The reason why flat volume is down is because they hold mail on purpose so they can get there numbers. The other day the Fss machine sorted my flats for my rt. I could fit them all in my hand. I've been in the po more than enough years to see that the mail is never that light. When the fall comes and the mail mysteries appears, they'll have to adjust the routes again. After they yell at you , complaining that you can't make it back on time. Ever day I hade this
From what I'm hearing this thing is a nightmare in every office they put it in. But typical postal service, they spent the money on it so they're just gonna shove it down our throats. I've heard stories of carriers bringing back over 200 missequenced flats at the end of the day. If customers complain just tell them to direct their anger to the supervisor, thats what I plan to do.
Stupid big ass expensive machine is going to have trouble sorting our 1/2 ft of mail. Dumbest purchase ever! dumbass higher ups have no idea what they're doing. Instead of the millions of dollars spent on this machine, they could have put some damn AC IN MY DAMN LLV ! But what he fuck do i know im just a letter carrier.
@SuperNaco85 hey supernaco!my flat volume on my route has actually gone down.i have days were i might have 5 flats for the entire relay.that's fucking impossible!the mail volume is down but not that much.i think theyre curtailing to make the numbers look great and you carry aux in addition to your route and than when they release the mail that they curtailed everyone will be working overtime and they won't know why.we are all DOOMED.
One thing is certain, every machine in the postal system is impressive in the beginning. After a few years of wear and tear machines have down time. Clerks on most machines were scheme qualified (persons who had memorize entire zip codes) .These employees would sort entire zip codes by reading the address only. In case of emergencies you had these employees as back ups. Now these machines are run by mail handlers who are not scheme qualified. This machine will break down sooner or later.
what a joke..come over to my office where most have 7-10 trays of flats..i see what a mess they do with my dps now..you`re gonna f..k up the flats too?..yeah, that`ll save maybe 15 minutes..glad i`m nearing retirement you a..holes made this job a time saving mess..scanning...wheelchocks...type in someone`s 19 line name after getting a slip signed..
Ouch, Darth. Guess I didn'[t get my planned retraction in soon enough. The 8th grade thing wasn't an overall stereo type. I've had the oportunity to visit many plants and for the most part "the workers" do bus ttheir tail while management,,, and I'll just have to stop in agreement with some of wha i've read. Sorry if I came across hateful to some.
Losing jobs - check, stalled wages - check, rising economy costs - check, labor effected production - check, more supervisors bonuses - check, less mail volume - check. We know it's inevitable, we know The Postal Service is fighting to keep scale with technology like Blockbuster failing to jump bad with NetFlicks. They ignored the window, now it's catch up time and shit rolls downhill on - THE WORKERS - THE BACKBONE OF THE POSTAL SERVICE. We get it, that just doesn't negate the sting of reality.
No one cares you're fucking this machine. In this economy, you speak of pay? Folks work 10top 12 hours everyday for YEARS to get that pay. Fact is REAL PEOPLE with REAL JOBS will suffer from these productions. Unless you are a clerk, mailhandler or specifically - a mail carrier having to bank his or her future on the success and viable production of these machines then you have NO FUCKING IDEA what fears are racing through peoples minds to secure their jobs, careers and uncertain futures.
Jetboy, your opinion is shit here. We bitch and grieve and moan because that's what Americans do when they think they're getting fucked. Guess what? You will too. Do I sound like I have an 8th grade education? I'm watching these million dollar machines shape and mold an entire generation of workers OUT OF A JOB. You work a bid job, 6 to 7 days a week for years and then have it taken away from you, seniority ripped away and sent packing to some obscure office as an UNASSIGNED REGULAR EMPOYEE.
I happen to be helping get this machine out the door and considering the pay employees with an 8th grade education get to run it and the way they cry and file greavance abusin the Union system,,, Get over it! And for the guy that said he ran one of these in Florida. Ummm... Not a chance it was anything like this, buddy.
Thats a rushed list off the top of my head. And guess what - it'll get worst. Postal workers are being shuffled around, harrassed by management and losing bids and jobs daily and all the while they smile in your face... yeah, I'm disgruntled. Yeah, I'm bitter.
TIME WASTED PRACTICE = Any function in a workers routine that doesnt shortcut the jpb /ROUTE INSPECTIONS = Nationwide cost cutting, job killing practice, enforced by management with 10 to 30 member teams of supervisors with clipboards and stop watches following carriers around to time, observe, and correct their route /CORRECT = Cut office time and over extend streetime and compensate with pivoting. /204B AND SUPERVISOR BUDGETING = 50 to 60k each for 25 teams of them across the nation.
MANAGEMENT = no production, no inspection, under performing employees /204BS = Employees who cant work as carriers, clerks and mailhandlers who switch sides and ususally abuse their former co workers /ABUSE = Verbal intimidation, posturing and grandstanding, aggressive tactics, forcing workers into workplace submission, threats of discipline - always punitive not corrective, hostile shoptalk /POSTAL SHOPTALK = Management damage control for supervisors who threaten, curse, and berate employees
Again. SEQUENCING = Killing jobs /KILLING JOBS = bonuses for bosses /FSS = Fuck mail carrier /PIVOTS = free non paid overtime /FORCED OVERTIME = no daily commitments, no lay off day, /NO PDI = Instant warning, suspsension or removal /ZERO TOLERANCE = Against employees, not used to correct supervisors and/ or 204Bs /TOP HEAVY = Thousands of postmasters, managers, bosses, and 204Bs changing work titles, lessening their work loads and exploiting their workers (and numbers) for bonuses
If it sorts the flats as acurately as the DPS machines sort the hand mail, then this system should generate more angry customer phone calls than anything else!
EXACTLY. The mistakes are daily, management does not care and the carriers take an ear beaten at will from the customers. What ever happened to customer service?
As an employee for many years I am appalled at how ridiculous the USPS is ran and the demands put on their employees. I do thank God for unions today. It would be like the sweatshops of the early 1900's if not for some type of protection. I have seen about 5 good managers out of the past 25 come through our station. Guess what? They were reassigned into oblivion. DPS flats will just be more headaches and managment fuel to beat down employees with their DOIS lunacy.
I spent time working in a Postal Distribution center in West Palm Beach as a contractor for Lockheed Martin on one of these systems.
The original poster is correct. The Postal worker force is treated poorly with respect to working hours. It's actually an accepted trait of Postal workers that they cannot maintain relationships outside of the workplace due to their hours.
@thetruth217 hey truth!what office are you from?it's all factored in is used extensively in our office too.what a waste of money.my flat volume is DOWN with this stupid system.how is that possible?
Hmmm let me see dps, fss, residual mail, and marriage mail.I think they are trying to get aliens to replace letter carriers.Last time I checked I only have 2 hands to work with. Now I understand why less office time and more street time I'm going to need more street time to do the same amount of work juggling 4 bundles.
I share the same point of view as most about how inadequately the PO is run, BUT I think that you will be quite surprised about how well the FSS mail is doing. Yes, I get on average an inch or 2 of errors in my DPS daily, but I have never had more than 2 or 3 errors in my FSS except one time with the machine had a problem with one mailing. The biggest problem is it destroys some pieces and I do not see that ever stopping unless they do away with it.
From what I have read the FSS system is an extremely complicated piece of machinery. There is NO way the current USPS pool of technicians will be able to maintain or trouble shoot the FSS system.I worked as a floating engineer for the USPS(quit in 2006). I watched in disbelief as 3 technicians fumbled around for 5 hours trying to fix a lable printer. They never got it to work and left it to the next tour to figure out.
..Continued from last post. The mail edges are sorted to the right and many of us think edges to the left would work much better. The trays do not easily fit on the truck ledge and slide around. Many workable problems but I will say hardly any errors. Business routes are having the most problems adjusting. We are the first office to have it and they told us they wanted us to give them help on what the best ways were to make this work efficiently. Do you think they are listening?? NOT!!
We now have FSS in our office. I think after the adjustment period everyone will like it. Who doesn't want to spend LESS time in the office. Many things are going to change. We are probably going to lose 8-10 routes of the 50+ we now have. Most routes will have something added to them. Our starting times are being changed to a later starting time. Problems I see only after a few weeks of experience with it are, the trays are very hard to work out of. Continued next post...
And zero tolerance my ass. If a worker sexually harasses another worker, he or she is suspended at the least. If a SUPERVISOR sexually harasses a worker, he is NOT suspended, but MOVED TO ANOTHER AO OR PROCESSING PLANT. Zero Tolerance only applies to workers. With bosses, mgmt DOES NOT get rid of the problem, they MOVE the problem.
Am I happy I got into maintenance at the p.o. I predict by 2010, a prerequisite to becoming a carrier is to be a circus juggler, 'cause you'll have to juggle around 6 bundles by then. Most supervisors in the p.o. DO NOT know how to properly communicate.
I hope you are watching well, because my carriers overtime will take a big flush down the toilet. Thanks for innovation. This happened because carriers wanted to play with mail in the office, and you don't have that problem anymore.
Your wrong about that. The amount of missorted mail in the dps is terrible think what its going to be like with fss not to mention you still have to deal with risidual mail.Unless you recycle that residual mail and get rid of the hot case I think I will still be dillydallying in the office.

Alien/ Contract route/ monkey same difference.
Now it takes a special person with unique qualities to become a pie hole with a clip board.
Pie holes blow steam.
A Pie hole is the void empty space in the center that the rest of the pie must revolve around.
A pie hole is not pie.
If you were to fill a pie plate with pie hole, you would have a plate of nothing.
A pie hole needs it's pie to exist if it wants to maintain the title of pie hole.
Hand a pie hole a clip board and what have you got?
