Dont touch the fish with your hands use a tool to protect the fish's slime coating..

The guide is to "guide" the line thru the little hole into the inside of the rod.

It's a bait fish hook remover...

Just a little piece of heavy gauge stainless steel wire with a "U"- bend in the end - kind of like this one..

cant add link - go to bass pro shop and search for hook remover
