  • 1969. Big Spring. I was serving Sam in his efforts of domination and control. All to the benefit of...well some of your remember..who. Anyway. The M. B.'s were my staple diet of music to keep me grounded. Oh dog feces (I probably can not say shit on YouTube) this is a great song.

  • I seem to rememeber the printed lyrics with the album had an ominous difference from the track...something like "So it goes til the day you die" instead of "Now it's almost over til next week"

  • @DECEMBERSCHILD12172 The last phrase to the song is

"Thats' how your life goes by,

    UNTIL the day you die.

(1969) Big Spring. Betty S. (sold me the album) worked in a record shop in a one-horse town in TX. Watch the opening scene from Midnight Cowboy. I was there when it was being filmed. I still have the original album with the original lyrics. This is/was one great group. Hope this clears things up.

  • Que coros tan sincronizados todos eran unos virtuosos en su musica buenos compositores lastima.

  • nice song, even as the song on my account called : Boulevard de la Madeleine

  • i just love ray s voice and compositions! he s so nice! what a great band...

  • Nice to hear on a lovely sunday afternoon!

  • love them

  • great band, great music, nuff said

  • Heavy duty tune. Incredible harmonies! It's not what you think. Stuff your face on Sunday afternoon and watch your life go by. Moodies are the best!

  • and there not in the rock and roll hall of fame. but all of their millions for fans know better. they dont need the rock and roll hall of fame. the rock and roll hall of fame needs them

  • im 38..thank god i had parents with good taste in music...threshold of a dream is still in my top 10 of all time...

  • Who else could write lyrics like "must be Beef today because lamb was last week: and make it WORK LOL...good old RAY....

  • their harmonies have never really been matched, though CSNY came real close

  • This video has very good quality!

  • How cool to have been encouraged to sing along with the original line up! Too bad this one is lip-synced. Not all of the clips from this show were though. I wonder how they chose which songs to sing and which ones to just play along? Nonetheless, this album was their best by far! I was a junior in HS when this came out and I had NEVER heard anything like it. Changed my world for sure!

  • @glenrep What do you mean they were not all lip synched on the paris 1970 show..what songs are NOT lip synched..i cant find any that are not.

  • i think tony clark did some "mixing" around with this song...it's live AND studio.

  • This is lip-synced, boo!

  • twinklebear22: I'm a straight guy, but the man is awesome...further, it seems quite clear that the older he gets, the better he gets....there is a major message here!

  • Thanks for uploading this!

  • I have this DVD. Always cracks me up to watch John Lodges face.He can't stop grinning. He looks a little bit like Tim Robbins. Great post.

  • @mrREDBIRDFAN He looks as if he is Rupert Grint from Harry Potter. And he is usually second fiddle to Justin as Ron is to Harry.

  • Love to spend a Lazy Day with Justin any day!! What a gorgeous, gorgeous man!! And what a voice, so beautiful and heart peircing!! The Moodies are truly a phenomenal band of all time! Their songs are full of real meaning and emotion and feeling. Gets right into my soul!! Their songs have truly impacted my life. They have touched the souls of many through the years and continue to do so to this day!! Pure brilliance!! So beautiful!! The Moodies forever my friends!! ♥

  • Yeah, this is definitely them miming to the recordings.. no guitar leads, no mics on the drums and they're singing about a foot away from the microphones. Although on on, possibly two of the songs (of this one hour show) Justin is definitely singing live over a recorded backing track, the same way they used to do it on Top Of The Pops for years. (^_^)

  • I have always loved the Moody Blues. Too bad this isn't a live recording. If you listen and watch very closely, you would realize that the sound track is the original studio recording.

  • @timbongo1 Yeah, I noticed that, too. God I miss that Record (whatever happened to it, I have no idear...I haven't seen it since approx. 1992-ish or so.!

  • Where are all the songs from "Threshold of a Dream?" That and "In Search of the Lost Chord" were my preferred favorites by them. "I think - therefore I am, I think." "Of course you are my bright little star. I am miles of files, files of your forefather's fruit, and now to suit our great computer, you are magnetic ink!" "I'm more than that. At least, I think I must be." "There you go man. Keep as cool as you can. Face the trials with smiles. It riles them to believe that you perceive the web tha

  • the great moody blues...the pionners of their era..very romanctic ...i love that song !

  • I can beat that blueroses28711; i'm 61 and live for their tunes

  • The Moodys are still going strong after all these years. I saw them in concert this past March, and they put on a great show even without Mike Pinder and Ray Thomas.

  • say yo we are going to what you tell me

  • these guys are bad lip singers

  • @neonpeefee :: On purpose with the harmonica, no doubt~! I think most musicians hate having to lip synch for TV.

    :^)

  • @neonpeefee Maybe you're right, can't deny, but they did better music than many "musicians" from now.

  • They were so great . Many positive lessons through their music and now so long ago 40+ years .

  • I am a 49 year old woman in WNC (TOO) and I adore MBs and Justin!! Not a better group in the history of the world.

Saw them in Asheville in 2010 and they were great. I was euphoric the next day.

  • it´s a playback in live....is it a very posivel

  • I love when famous musicians still clearly enjoy what they're doing enough to smile onstage: 1:50 :-D

  • This really puts me at peace. So relaxing... ^_^

  • This was synched. But they are great live. seen em.

  • Lovely song! Bravo

  • I think this was all lip sync'd

  • I see comments about the harmonica playing. I think it was the best, worst harmonica fake playing and you can see everyone knew it. They were just having fun....

  • Love these guys... but wondering if they are singing along with a recording... watch the guy in blue when he plays the harmonica

  • the lead singer reminds me of Omar Sharif in Dr. Zhivago... XD

  • Ray Thomas is a very accomplished musician and I like his singing style too.

  • They obviously didn't lip sync. the studio version is just played over the video.

  • Of course it is lip synced-but a lovely concert that I have watched many times-thank you moodiesfan!

  • I love the Moodies. But that had to be the worst fake harmonica playing I`ve ever seen. Roy Thomas should stick to the flute.

  • Ray was not trying to fake the harmonica.. the studio version was overdubbed to the video. The studio audience heard the live harmonice 'cause the mics were live.

  • good one of ray! u can c the guys havin a great time!

  • I s he playing that harmonica? lol

  • What a beautiful song, but then aint all The Moody Blues songs so beautiful almost as beautiful as Justin!!! Ahh ahh ahh ahh!!

  • This is a totally lip sync performance...from ISOTLC...anyone can tell that..if you cant hear that well theres no hope

    Jim

  • you old fart!.... you're probably right

  • captainsoul, and everybody please forgive me, to CREDIT of the band! We hear the album version, but this is NOT a lip sync.

EXPLANATION: at real time, 1970, they sang in live mics, evidenced by some of the other clips in this venue ie: Are you sitting comfortably, Never comes the day" are different vocally than the album version. The instrumental track was the studio recording

THIS CLIP: the production crew for some reason overdubbed the album version after the show, and it's all in sync

  • ...I agree, lip sync

  • who do you all think you are ? god, so talented yourselves, i dont tink so

  • No...but not preteding to be either

  • it seems the live or not aspect of this set and others from it has become very important for some reason. does no one call it miming any more, or is lip synching the preferred usage, like goose bumps instead of goose pimples, and movies instead of films.its not good to here about the roast either.

  • I LOVE how John the bass player went from such a cute young man to a gorgeous silver haired sexy man.

OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH GODS GIFT TO ME AND YOU

  • this is not a live recording, it's lip sinc. watch when he plays the harmonica, he stops playing too early but the music continues.

  • Yeah Garrytunes.. so it appears, but run the engineers out of town on a wire for overdubbing the studio version after the concert. The band sang into live mics to pre-recorded studio instrumental tracks... please check out "Never comes the Day", and "Are you sitting comfortably" and a few others from this concert which were not overdubbed. This band communicates universal messages so beautiful that even a lip sync should not detract us from that!

  • Yea, I pointed that out on some of the other songs and I got hammered alot, but I stood my ground. I just pointed out the simple things like the guitars not hooked up to the amps as well as a few others.

  • @brofranomo You're sucjh a f**kin ignopramus, Jeez! What about the record??!!

  • harmony!!!!! OMG!

  • totally

  • i love RAY! his hair's cool in this vid!!!

  • so true this song...now its all kabas and Curry....poor old ENGLAND SHes long Gone and her Days...;( ;(

  • A month later and back at moms for a Sunday afternoon . Todays heaven sent . One never knows what one has till it's gone .

  • any one that has a negative comment is not a true fan ......my wife,my children ,and grandchildren listen and learn from the MOODY BLUES .

  • @josiems this song is not for vegetarians but its a good song

  • @spacepatrolman hahaha ! brilliant mate !

  • @tokaicarl mike said there was no support for vegetarians then if you went on the road you couldnt find a vegetarian restaurant [they couldnt get on american tv they didnt have the right visa but we get european and british shows in youtube now ] .

  • I've been a MB fan since their inception. Too bad that this is lipsynched to the record. You can hear the Mellotron strings and oboes in the song...but if you look close, Mike Pinder is playing a Hammond B3....which can't possibly produce those sounds.

  • You're right on the money - this whole show was done with studio backing tapes supplied by Tony Clarke, their producer. In some of the song, Justin is actually singing, sometimes not. Mike is definitely not sitting at a Mark II Mellotron - you wouldn't risk taking a machine like that across the channel if you weren't going to play it.

  • Agreed. On the other hand i tend to be a bit more forgiving of lip synching when the music is so incredible and the band so amazing.

  • Such a nice song from a great band - but it is just too gay for my brother in law!

  • it's soft rock

  • I am 50 yr old lady in WNC and these guys stil ROCK~~~!!!! Thanks for the VIDEO!!

  • @bluroses28711

We were so lucky to grow up with them.... 55 here and still hopelessly in love with these guys. Even named one of my sons Justin after Hayward! Shine on <3

  • @IsisTiamat I named one of my sons Justin (after Justin Hayward) also.

  • @bluroses28711 so what if your 50 i'm 58 and i still rock and i also funk and hip hop' age means nothing except you experienced the good music and not the crap they have now rock on doll

  • Love it. Fabulous. I'm 27, and even I know they are one of, if not the BEST rock n' roll bands ever. Legendary. Thank you.

  • Nothin better than the worlds smallest symphony orchestra"The Moody Blues"from great music to extraordinary album covers. The Moodies are the BEST!!!

  • I am the Moody Blues #1 greatest fan. This song is a great tribute to their imense talent, and of coarse to a sunday at mom's.

  • Einfach nur Klasse dieser alte Schinken!

  • Its playback?

    Yes it is:(

  • The Moodies played live but this DVD is just shit...

  • This has got to be one of the best "feel good" records of all time.A simple but effective remedy for the pre-Monday blues.Wonderful!

  • At 1:59, Ray gives it away that this was mimed to the album sound track. He moves the harmonica away from his lips, but it's still playing.

Good song, very atmospheric of what a sunday afternoon is like. A simple song, but very listenable.

    Good post!

  • Ray has always been awful with faking...look at him on the video for I'm Just A Singer...

  • This song is highly under rated, it's very shit

The 60s was sometimes like this

  • davvero piacevoli ed atmosferici..

  • love this song i love sundays

  • magnificent

  • where is brofranamo?????????????

  • I'm right here helliepellie2. This one slipped by me. You gave me a good laugh. My response is to the moody blues, "lazy day".

  • i must say tho, i do enjoy Pindy's orchestrations!

  • hey where's brofranamo? i wanted to tell him i really see the discrepency in this vid. hey, maybe he 's been right all along! brofranamo?

  • i was there in paris. now i,m 55 years. But i feel the music now.

    its great! and lovely

    greats from the dutch

  • hello to dutch,i,am 53years old,woman from lancashire,and agree with you,

  • These guys are top notch musicians and great composers.Nothing exists today which can eclipse their huge talent and it is unlikely that anyone ever will. The perfection and fullness of their sound is refreshing today, some 40 odd years since they started up.Simply wonderful.

  • "...Must be lamb today, cuz beef was last week...."

  • which album is this from?

  • on the threshold of a dream

  • oh yeah! thanks^^ i knew it sounded familiar somehow.

  • Hello Slaneco, I like the Moody Blues and the Stooges, I like Traffic and MC5...

I like all that and more, with or without ass kicking.

  • This is actually one of my very fave MB songs

  • i never new tim robbins played bass for the moody blues lol....j/k but tim robbins does look like lodge

  • A real difference in an American audience and one in other countries. We are a lot more demonstrative! We would be clapping and cheering.

  • The Moody Blues are f*cking amazing. I LOVE THEM!

  • This is a great series of vids. Any way to download it all en toto?

  • This was a blast to watch..dubbed or not..they were having a great time...Mike pinder welcoming the audience to sing? I don't think so....

  • my mom's a huge MB fan, and she used to play this song when i was a kid. i like it now, but when i was little it freaked me out. to me the chorus sounded like it was sung by a bunch of scary pirates with scary parrots on their shoulders rolling their scary reptilian eyes.

i still get that image in my head when i hear this song, but like i said, i like the song now.

  • I can picture that... lol it makes me glad I don't remember listening to this song any earlier than age 14. But I remember Nights In White Satin on long road trips all through my childhood. I used to picture a "knight" wearing white satin, trying and failing to write a letter from the battlefield. Children's imaginations are VERY interesting! :-D

  • true artists.i love the honest origional style. not found today.

  • hahaha its not the "beatles" this is "the moody blues"

  • Beatles?

  • It's similar to the Beatles

  • Hello, dergola. I am a huge MB fan. My comment "Beatles?" was my way of saying their earlier music sounded much like them. I love these old videos!

  • Ray Thomas always does such a stellar job at lip-syncing. In all the old vids of the band, he really tries hard to mouth exactly as the song is playing. I've seen so many other bands that have their lips have closed!

  • ..."must be lamb today, cuz beef was last week..."

  • ..."So full up, bursting at the seams. Soon you start to nod off happy dreams..."

  • what a great band they sound so good together!

  • but it is sooo nice to see them smiling :D

  • Pinder wasn't such a great fake harmonica player... It's so lip synced it's sad... I still love the modies regardless...

  • you're right. saturday/sunday to me is the same. My humble apologies. It's still alazy day. lol

  • lazy day today; is this Saturday afternoon. lol bg.

  • HELP!!!! I CAN'T COMMENT!!!!!

  • I believe all this audio was pre-produced. That vocal mix/effects reflect "studio like" precision and effects quality.

Fade is perfectly balanced (sooo difficult to pull off using any amount of live accompaniment/vocals). Not ever intended to fool the audience. A common practice "back in the day" used when attempting to showcase performances of more sophisticated artists on TV variety shows. Goal was to provide a more "live like" rendition, not perfect..but not too far from it either.

  • This appears to be a sound stage production as was customarily used by the BBC for scheduled television appearances. Sullivan used this technique on occasion in the US as well. Nothing is live. Likely recorded earlier in the day when they could take their time and correct most mistakes. Overdubbed too.

  • So this is all lip-sync'd?

  • Berry,

You bet! It would be a total waste of money to buy a tv, cause even if it were on, I couldn't tell ya what show was playing! I'd be too "busy" with my sweet Ray to even notice! lol!!!

  • Ahhh,AHHHHH AH!! I am singing along, thinking about a lazy day in front of the "tellie" on the couch with my Ray. (couldn't tell ya what was on the "tellie" though--Neither one of us were paying attention!) LOL!

  • Ray has a great voice, very much part of the MB sound. I love this song. The harmonies and minor chords, typical MB classic...

  • Yep. They practically grew up together. I'm sure John misses him terribly. I know we do.

  • I love the way these guys interact with each other. I can see John looking over at Ray and laughing...like there's an inside joke there that we don't know about. And Justin is like the serious "brother" caught between these 2 silly guys. I think that's so cute. This is a great cut and shows off Ray's very strong vocals. The guy has a great voice!

  • I like Ray's pants. :D

  • Being a keyboard player who owned a mellotron, I couldn't help but notice Pinder playng a Hammond organ instead. The mellotron was a mechanical nightmare and i understand that many live shows involved a last-minute organ rental as the 'tron died on the road. Sure enough, the dubbed the 'tron over the organ.

  • GB

Ever hear those loops for a tron? Was it the Moody's who traveled with a factory tech or was it King Crimson, ELP, Nice or someone else? Can't recall.

What was a "Quiglytron". Pinder did have two trons at one time mounted in a C3 cabinet. Any info? I still have a couple of trons as conversation pieces.

  • watching this over and over, frame by frame, not used as much as ya might think.. they are really that tight vocally! a universal gift to us mere mortals!

  • @audiomez Hi, audiomez. I didn't see this until now (if you click "reply" to the right of a comment, that person gets a notice from YT). I believe Pinder actually was a tech himself. Not familiar with the two 'trons in a C3 cabinet, but, knowing how 'trons are configured and knowing how the C3 is configured, I can't imagine how that would be possible, but I'll look into it, thanks! I assume, since you referred to the two 'trons you have as "conversation pieces", that they no longer function?

  • @gareebee you have to put oil in a hammond organ it has a motor and a tone wheel generator metal rods with cams that spin with pickups sometimes they wobble the wrong way and it starts sounding like a buzzz saw and it needs an overhaul its a machine not a sythesizer .

  • @spacepatrolman Ermmm...did you mean this for me? I can't find any comment of mine mentioning issues with Hammonds, so I have to ask. BTW, I had a B2 in 1975 and am quite aware of the difference between tone-wheel organs and synthesizers, but thanks for posting :)

  • @gareebee Didnt you say you had a mellotron and mike had a hammond in this clip

  • @spacepatrolman I did, but what about that post brought up the issue oh Hammond organ maintenance? Just curious...

  • @gareebee Well you said that mellotrons were hard to maintain so that just popped into my head one of the times when the moody blues were at the fillmore east the tapes went all over the place maybe it was arthur browns flameing helmet

  • @spacepatrolman I don't mean to be dense, but what you just posted supports my original point that a Hammond organ was often rented at the last minute because of Pinder's 'tron breaking down. This video was likely one of those times when the Hammond filled in. A pity for those at this show as they were deprived of the Mellotron.

  • @gareebee They may have been using it for a prop for this lip sync job the organ may have been there already in the place

  • Not a song for vegetarians but it has a good melody.

  • great song but hm so dubbed ova funny harmonica player hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm great fun though

  • Hi Gazls, Yes, that's why they were all laughing, because he wasn't actually playing the harmonica and was deliberately not hiding it very well!!!

  • Dubbed or not it is still a great song. Back in the 60's and 70's there was alot of dubbing, not very many television shows were live and if they were they tended to dub. Technology wasn't then what it is today. American Bandstand mostly dubbed. Moody Blues are great regardless.

  • I thought synching was a new phenomenon!Have to say I'm disappointed that a great live act would want/need to do this. Oh well, it must have been fun for them though!

  • The last time I ever saw lip-syncing was Bandstand and Montreux. Thank God most acts won't do it anymore. What's the point? Unfortunately, the so-called 'industry' said this was what we wanted. *Sigh* I agree with you completely.

  • Michael Pinder lifts his hands while the keybord is still sounding and Ray Thomas stops blowing the harmonica in the middle of the solo... Definitely dubbed!

  • Definitely dubbed as it is sounds EXACTLY as it does on the album.

  • This song was clearly dubbed. Justin is playing an electric guitar, but there is only an acustic guitar in the song. Also, Ray pulls his mouth away from the harmonica while the hamonica solo is still playing?

Why would they be dubbing in front of a live audience?

  • can you post the next song after lazy day?

I would also like to hear the live version...

  • Great, there are some wonderful moodies fans out there!

  • I would kill to actually hear the live version of this. The harmonica solo really gave it away.

  • thank you so much !!!

  • Great work finding the Moodies stuff,i've been a fan for over 3 decades.

  • Thank you so much Moodies fan, all the tracks from this gig are treasure, cheers for sharing them all with a world that needs more than ever to hear them.

  • Where in the world do you find these gems. Once again, thanks for the rarity and keep up the good work.

  • Great stuff, didn't realise this gem was out there either! Just found all the moodies stuff on youtube I may be here some time!

  • there's a dvd available "live 1970" get it , it's quite worth it! love the humro in this one!
