This guy talks the way rappers talk today. Ever heard that song "the douggie". Sounds just like him. Niggers are just all retarded, that's all. His portrayal of them was dead on accurate
I think its amazing I never heard his name before today. He was acting from the 1920s until 1970s and made more money than the president during the depression? How is it that he doesn't get credit?
...Lincoln Perry was as effective an actor and 'icon' as Carrol O'Connor (Archie Bunker), Al Pacino (Godfather saga) and Jesse Eisenberg (everyone's favorite geek). Each one of those actors produced a character that was so effective in it's portrayal that it makes us sensitive to the characters actions whether positive or negative. He was a GREAT comedic actor...
back then there probibly werent alot of positive roles avalible for black individuals plus sometimes actors gotta take crappy roles to make money and get a reputation but i can see how it could be counterproductive for blacks
On the other hand, there are blacks who are completely normal, educated, soft spoken, and no different than any other race. These normal blacks are what the black race should aspire to. Unfortunately blacks seem to aspire to the worst among them, ie, Al Sharpton or Snoop Dog. To those normal blacks, they should know they are loved and welcome and encouraged to keep fighting the plague of ignorance that defines their moronic gangster acting cousins. Racism sucks, so stop feeding it with behavior.
@MalleusMaleficarum01 Al Sharpton and Snoop Dogg pulled themselves by their bootstraps to get the success they have today, how in the hell are they "the worst among them"? Quit being such a condescending douche.
I don't see why people act as if Stepin's behavior is not like the real behavior of a a huge % if not MOST blacks in America today. Whether Chicago, NYC, LA, Atlanta, or even small town USA, black people truly act in very similar ways as Stepin. The poor English, the yelling in public. Now it's WORSE than Stepin as blacks now expose their behinds in public with sagging pants, and sometimes are seen grabbing their genitals as they walk. Let's get real. Wake up America. Dump the PC bull shit.
... Yeah, another sellout to the black community. He perpetuated the stupid stereotypes that helped to do the black community and it's EFFECTS ARE STILL WITH US TO THIS DAY. He should NOT be celebrated. We have a lot of stepin fetchit acts this day, but I will digress from naming them.
Wow -- the narrator sounds like a young kid, so I was surprised at how well-researched and balanced this clip was in dealing with the complicated history of black actors in Hollywood. I'd give it an A, at least based on this segment!
... agreed, he was a great actor. You have to be smart to create a character like that. He's brilliant and very funny. He had such good ideas! ... love the "feet wear out" line ... great timing!!

Nice one! The idiots blaming him for the roles he was forced the play didn’t even realize the point he was making with his stage name, let alone what he was really doing by playing the roles the way he did. We did, watching those movies in the sixties, and we were white kids. Anti racists for life after that. Good for you, for putting the record straight.
@britinthebronx Forced? No one held a gun to his head. And he was dummy. He knew EXACTLY what he was doing. And he was paid very handsomely for his role in promoting negative opinions about Black people in this country. Just like Tyler Perry, Martin Lawrence, and Eddie Murphy today; Making tons of money making us look like fools. You could try to argue that Stepin Fetchit did that shit so no one else would have to. That's bull. He did it for the same reason they do now. MONEY.
@grannie530 I too think he knew what he was doing. Look at the stage name he took: Stepin Fetchit ( a contraction of step in and fetch it) do you think he wasn't having a laugh over that one. Ok, white man, if this is how you want to play it, I'm game. I think he was a great actor and should be remembered for his skill.
I'd like to see the entire film. Where do i find "Forgotten Funny" I see you have a clip on Dick Gregory, im just about done with his book "Nigger". Great book!
